Hello all. I've never formally introduced myself on this board, but I am one of the quieter readers here. It is with a heavy heart that I come to make a rare post.
I am a Marine currently serving in Iraq. I am part of a helicopter squadron that provides casualty evacuations to the more troubled areas in central Iraq. On Wednesday, while flying a casevac mission, one of our helicopters crashed into a field northeast of Fallujah. All onboard were lost, including my roommate, Jen Harris. She was a very bright and capable girl, one of our best pilots. She was my 'partner in crime', and now our room seems very empty without her. The "boys" are fun, but it was nice to come back from a long flight and have the rare experience of getting to talk to another girl. I'll miss you, Jen. I'll miss the sweltering nights in Iraq last deployment when we sat out under the stars in our lawn chairs and talked about the future. I'll miss carpooling with you to all the training exercises and playing Since You Been Gone over and over again on the way there. I'll miss teasing you about all the hundreds of icons you kept on your desktop of your computer. I'll always remember the time you didn't realize that 220V wasn't exactly the same as 110V until after you plugged in a few things, and thus got your callsign ("Attila"... destroys everything in sight). I'll also remember the letter I received during a very difficult time in my life, when you mailed me back the "last letter home" I'd asked you to keep during the first deployment, along with a Starbucks gift card, telling me to go have some coffee to cheer me up. You were always there, always watching, and I know you're still watching.
Rest easy, girl.
