I was wondering if anyone here uses a good parental control program? I am trying to find a good one for my aunt so her boyfriends daughter can not accidently come across anything she shouldn't be seeing. I found a website that offers a ton of programs but I don't want her to download one that will just waste her time.
If you know of one that is good, we would both appreciate the information. The site I found is: http://www.sofotex.com/download/Security/Parental_Control/
If anyone would like to go through that list and recommend one from there.

Thank you for any info. My kids are rarely allowed on my computer and when they are they have constant supervision, so I don't use one. I thought there was one already on my computer that I could choose to use or not, but I have no idea where it is if it is there. lol
Blessings,

I will have to have her call her provider and find out if they offer that. She is renting a computer right now just to get the feel of it and to see if she likes it.
She doesn't have to worry about documents or anything like that. They just don't want her playing around on the computer or searching for things without getting on a porn site or anything like that. She has the computer in the living room, but you never know what can happen.

I could have sworn though when I first got my laptop it asked if I wanted to set that up. I did a search on my computer and couldn't find it though. Typical, when you want to find something on the computer you can't. lol

I recommend this. As for the ISP providing those services above, I had heard some do but have never seen it before. I use to work for an ISP (broadband) and thats one thing people would get angry about is that all we offered was unlimited internet access, five free e-mail accounts, free web space with no ads and 10MB/ps on the basic package. Sometimes working in a call center was not worth it, thats why I fix corporate printers now.

Well she has dial up and it is a small town, so they probably don't offer it. Thank you for the suggestion Wolf. I will check that out.

I have to admit I have gone a bit insane on the call center people but not over filters. lol I couldn't have a job like that. I take things too personal. Right now I am a bit upset that I can't have wireless service in my area. Makes having a laptop kinda pointless. But it could be worse. A short time ago they didn't even offer broadband in this area.

If you have Windows Xp on the computer it is built into the OS. I work for my ISP and we do not offer it, to much liability involved. But if it's Win Xp then you can go through that for free and it works pretty decently. Give me a holler sometime and I can help you sit it up.

Or a quick google search brought this up for me, it's and it's an established name in the industry.

Thank you very much Lyme. As soon as I am able to get back over to my aunt's house I will definitly private message you for directions. I think if possible I will use what is on the computer already, that way she isn't downloading a bunch of stuff on a computer she may return. But if not then I will have to take a moment and compare the two that were suggested in this thread.
I'm afraid I am posting before reading through the link that you provided. Confused Just trying to get through my e-mails before heading off to bed. But I will check it out completely tomorrow morning.

Thanks again for your help and time with this. I'm kinda worthless in this area. lol
