That sounds really annoying... To be honest with you, I don't even get why people claim to be first degree, second and third degree (hp)'s. I think it is just to make them feel superior. I've been practising wicca for 8 yrs now, and I'm dedicated, I don't classify myself as anything but an eclectic solitary witch.

Anyway, I'm glad you could vent your situation out here, maybe someone needs to tell her to pull her head in a little?

The problem with situations like these, is you are dealing with people's egos. AND their spirituality....very tricky and very volatile.

I would create a "study group" of your own, and include those folks thatw ish to study further....these types of study groups do not have the egos involved, because there are no "degrees" to be had.....each person works with the Divine in their own way....you can learn so much more from each individual this way, how they work, how they look at things, and respect each other in the process...

Remember there are many ways to the Divine, yours is only but one, and it is specifically designed for you....because it comes from within....

Don't let the HPS rent space in your brain...it ain't worth it, and it sounds as if you have you have many folks that would love to study without egos and restrictions.....

That's the sort of story that terrifies me about ever joining a coven. While I love the ritualism and very much crave the mentoring, I know that if I had to deal with that, I would end up knocking that HP off her rocker figuratively if not literally.

I have been a student (I suppose even a proffessional student) for a long time and this is one thing I have learned. Having a high degree means you have studied and are suppose to know more about a specific area of knowledge, but it does not mean a) you know more than everyone else, b) you know everything, or c) you are a better person.

I have to agree with Lady Elaine--when in doubt, teach yourself. When teh time is right for a new leader or mentor, you will find the person. Unless, of course, it is your time to be mentor.

Yeah I can understand why people don't want to turn up. She sounds like a witch bitch! And has no right to stop rituals or spells.

And telling people who they can and cant see is just silly! :/ What game is she trying to play, high priestess or mother goose?

Anyone who 'makes' people acr or do certain things in regards to spirituality is wrong. Spirituality is somethingthat comes from within, and altho there are thoughts and ideas that are similar, we each need to find a group we are comfortable with. I am happy that you are working towards that goal....

Not all "covens" are bad. I have been in a couple that were fabulous...but because of people moving, and growing in many ways, they faded away....many of us still keep in touch, but as with everything, people change.

I am so delighted for you. It is always good to listen to your heart and I know you are feeling the wonderful power that comes from within!

I am still shocked that she wanted people to burn puctures of their loved ones. I suppose that would be acceptable in some circles....but not mine. Pictures are treasured memories, and do such a thing in my opinion would be horrible for both Spirit and emotion.

I agree that the burning of loved one photos seems intense and not the right thing to do.  There are so many other ways of doing the ritual.
