Hey all,

I was just curious about something?!? I'm working on a poppet spell to bind a particular person from hurting my family, including her son, who is my nephew. I've read a bit about poppets and how to manage them, and usually during a binding I believe they are to be buried away from the home, or thrown into a river somewhere. This currently is not possible for me to do, simply because there is no river near by, and the ground is frozen, so burring something would prove quite difficult.

Anyways, I did read one article about buring poppets, and then scattering the ashes, or dumping them in the toilet or something. My only concern then that if the poppet is made to represent an individual, burning it may be considered harming them?But if in the spell it is worded that the fire represents cleasning this person out of our lives, would it then be okay?Or should I just wait a few days to take the poppet to a river and throw it in?

Any thoughts? or recommendations?

Let me address this in a few parts:

Usually, running water is associated with breaking or nullifying magic. Consequently, I do not think throwing the poppet into a running body of water is a good idea unless you want to break the spell.

Burning things associated with spell work is tricky. I would not recommend it in your case for the reasons you mentioned. Popppets are a type of sympathetic magic, so unless you want to burn the object of the spell, it's a bad idea. For future reference, burning a written spell as a means of "transporting" it to the Divine is generally acceptable.

In most of the poppet work I am familiar with, you bury the poppy on the property of the person teh poppet symbolizes. You can also put it in a concealed space, like under a deck.

I warn you to be very careful with this kind of magic. Directing binding spells against someone can lead to unrecognized and negative consequences for that person as well as yourself. I suggest you focus strongly upon spells related to the protection of your family before engaging in this kind of spell work.

I have to agree with Stacey. Try performing protection and house/body cleansing exercises and spells before you mess with something of this nature.

If you need to ask such a question of us, you need not be toying with poppets. When performing sympathetic magicks, you bind the person/situation to you....permanently. Many lessons can be learned....and not always the ones you were hoping for.

I have actually forgotten what I put in as so much has happened in the last few days.  But I will try.

Dawnoreo you have obviously looked into the area of poppets with fire to great lengths and have your own ideas on the subjetc.  I am sure that Stacey and Lady E meant no harm with their replys to your question.  Although They are very knowledgable people and would not offer this advise without good reason.  Many of the people in this site come from all different beliefs, paths that is what makes it such a wonderful place.  But this also includes their own ideas on things and when asking a question we may not get the reply we like or appreciate, but it is always with their best interests at heart.  Most of the poeple here such as Stacey and Lady E have earnt their knowledge through experience and life lessons, so they( like many )try to give this info to questions asked to help others from making errors etc.  Like I said I am sure they meant no offense with the reply given, only that you take care in what you do, as there are many consequences for everyone involved in such a ritual.

One thing also in dealing with any sort of binding is to make sure that you don't in the end end up biding this person to you, thus making life more miserable because well now you have gone and stuck yourself with the problem you were trying to rid yourself of, as LE stated.

The deal with the river is to take an send whatever the issue is, into the river, in a floating object so that it is then carried along with the waters out of your life. Not a good thing if you are worried about the magick washing away.

Sometimes magick is not always the best way to rid physical pains out of our lives we must resort to the mindane fixes and use the magick as a second layer of protection.

Make sure you have used all the legal recourses, and maybe use a little magick in the area of making sure that justice is served.

It's hard to give detailed advice with sketchy info, sorry.

I apologize if my words sounded a bit harsh.  I was not trying to criticize you, but talk about possible consequences of the spell.  When people ask questions, I try to keep in mind that this may be an issues for someone in the present or the future, therefore I try to write as complete an answer I can for the record.

I believe it is a mother's duty to protect her family, and if a poppet binding spell is the only means available or the lesser among evils, then that is what you must do.  I just advise that you explore and analyze your choices before taking any path involving offensive magic.
