I'm trying desperately to find a plant that grows in Italy (in the Tuscany area) that will create a blue dye or paint color. It's for a water color usage, and it has to be made from a plant. Also I have to be able to purchase the herb/plant here in the US at this time of year (late October). It would be helpful if it could be something I add to water, then maybe a little vinegar or salt or both. I thought about blueberries, but they don't grow in Italy. And I just don't know much about Gentian, although I've heard that there is a medication called Gentian Blue.

I'm grateful for any information you can share.

Thank you Lady Elaine for this directive, but I kind of need to know what plant materials will produce a blue dye. I've already managed to find stuff for yellow and red, but I still need to make blue. With those three, I can create any color I need. The site you recommended just tells how to chop up the material and boil it to make the dye, not what to use to get the color I want. This information will be very useful to me once I know what to use. Thanks again.
