For the past two years, I've purchased the Lewellyn Witch Day Planner and changed this year to the Seasons of the Witch Planner.  I originally started buying these planners because I thought they would prove more interesting than a plan daily planner--I would actually want to look at it.  If you haven't tried either before, I thought it might be useful to provide a brief description.

The Lewellyn publication is a planner I would say would favor more of the typical kitchen witch.  You have the typical planetary alighnments and phases of the moon lists as well as sun and moon signs and transitions.  The planner tells you the color associated with each day as well as the incense.  It lists the Celtic Wiccan holidays accordingly as well.  The features include poem, stories, and recipes associated with the seasons.  There a little tidbits of information scattered throughout about herb and gem lore.  Events significant to the pagan community are included, however, I found that to be a bit depressing after a while, as most of the events tend to involve torture and execution.  The format is spiral bound on balck and white paper.  Overall, I think it is a cute day planner, and the introductory essays in each planner are well worth checking out.

I've just purchased the Seasons of the Witch for 2008, and I have to admit that I like the overall format better.  It is spiral bound, but in full color.  The paper is of reasonable quality.  There are monthly and weekly pages, while the Lewellyn only had weekly.  It does not include associated colors or herbs.  It does indicate when the moon is waxing and waning and Mercury retrogrades. As opposed to the folk-kitchen witch ambiance of the Lewellyn publication, it features details more relevant to magic casting and Tarot.  The author of the planner, Victoria David Danann, includes notations about "Power Days", in which it is most beneficial for certain types of spells to be performed.  I am assuming she is basing this on astrological signs, but have not done the research to check.  It is more Celtic Wiccan based, but easily adaptable to other magic.  One feature I really like is that as the seasons change, the colored background of the planner changes with them.  However, I have noted that there are a few typos.  It does not have the informative introductory essays that the Lewellyn planner has.

Overall, I would say that I prefer the Seasons of the Witch planner for my own personal use, but would suggest trying out the Lewellyn first.  It is usually a bit cheaper, and it's a bit more "amiable" or homey--more of what you would expect of a publication for a kitchen witch.  I think if you are younger, you may prefer Seasons of the Witch, as I have to admit, the graphics are really cool and the lack of "hoem and hearth" emphasis I think makes it a bit more palatable.

If you have tried any of these before let me know what you think.  I would especially love to hear if anyone hs tried to cast magic according to the "power days."  I normally caculate the days for myself, but I'd love to know if someone has been successful using them. Smile

Overall, from what I have seen, I like the Seasons of the Witch planner more.  Before I perform any magic according to the "Power Days", however, I do want to investigate and understand the underlying theory of why these days are relevant to specific magic.  I have to admit, if the planners indications coincide well, this would be a very useful planner when compared with mapping out the most auspicious days of the year by hand.

Thank you for that comparison.  I was going to purchase the "season of the witch" but azuregreen is out of stock.  I chose the Llewelyn planner for that reason only.  Now I'm glad I did!!
