It's been a while since I've put pen to paper, but laid in the bath last night these lines started forming themselves.
Moving On.
The place I lie is warm and still.
They come and go in whispers.
I hear them. Sense they're ill at ease.
They think that I can't feel it.
Reflecting on the life I've had, remembering kisses, friendships and partings.
What to they know of how I've lived, when a third had been lived before they existed?
I've laughed, I've cried, I've killed, I've loved.
I've buried friends and family that they never knew.
They see me, old, frail and worn, tired and empty.
I feel as I did all those years ago.
My body has aged not my heart.
The place I lie is cool and dim.
The voices now fade in and out.
Distance grows between us.
My thoughts have travelled to those I lost over the many years I have walked this path.
Would I had changed anything that I had done?
Could I have made a difference to anything in this world?
Too late now.
All things have passed, no time for change.
Their voices are fading.
I am tired and cold.
The place I lie is cold and dark.
I hear their footsteps as they leave.
The scent of flowers mingles with the aroma of damp earth.
I cannot hear their voices anymore.
The voices I hear now are fresh from memory.
Welcoming me home to a place filled with light.
I do not feel cold.
I am light and renewed.
A new age begins for this time worn traveller.
