Good question, Girlfriend.
I pray in many forms, many of which are probably shared by other people. In fact, I would say that most of my spell work and rituals are just an organized form of prayer. Of course, I do the regular prayers where you are simply speaking from your heart to the Divine at any given time, as afterall, "every thought is a prayer." Sometimes I will speak aloud, and sometimes I will not. I find that speaking things aloud has a certain power I can sense, and to be honest, sometimes the feel of it is simply to overwhelming for me to feel comfortable. My prayers are not always communicated in words, but many times in emotion. I find my most powerful prayers and spells occur when I can articulate the emotions into words and channel the energy into a spell. Sometimes my prayers are actions. For example, if I purchase a container of hyacinth or tullips, instead of throwing the bulds away when the plant dies, I will bury them in a park for others to enjoy in the coming years. This is a prayer thanking the Divine for the beauty and pleasure the plant brought into my life.
Essentially, I would consider my spell work a form of organized prayer. I find that ritualism helps me concentrate on the intent of the prayer. I am not necessarily asking for something each time I perform a spell; sometimes it is simply a ritual of thanks. I have always found lighting a candle and burning incense to be a potent means to organize my thoughts.
I once attended a lecture given by a Tibetan Buddhist Lama who said something I will never forget. She said, in BUddhism, "when one prays to the figure of the Buddah, they are praying to the Buddah within them." I suppose that the ultimate goal on my spiritual Path is to truly appreciate and understand this quote.
