My mom just found out and called me.  He and half the family went to Colorado to help my cousin move back home to VA.  They were all sitting in a restaurant eating dinner when the he just got a blank look on his face then the whole left side drooped.  They tried to get him to respond and when he didn't they check his sugar, it was good.  Luckily my uncle Jimmy was there. He was an EMT for years.

According to the family he is able to talk and is stable. The doctors ran some tests and we'll know more in the morning.  My little brother went fishing and mom can't get him to answer the phone so he has no idea.

He had wanted to ride in a helicopter his whole life but didn't know if the doctors would let him in his poor health.  When it happed he wasn't near any good hospitals so they had to air lift him to Denver.  I guess if he's talking then he'll be ok.  It just so unexpected.  

But like I said He'll be ok.  He's to damn stubborn to let a little stroke get the best of him.  Don't know why I am even posting this.

Sometimes it is just nice to share and get it out there.  Recently went through this with one of my dearest family members so my good energies and blessings to your pawpaw and your family.  I am sure all will be well with him.

Best wishes to you and your family indigo_faerie. Your pawpaw is so blessed to have your uncle there to help....strokes are the silent demons in the medical world....they can happen for no apparent reason...it sounds as if he is in very good hands...may he recover swiftly!

The hospital is releasing him tonight.  they say yes he did have a stroke but he got help in time and no permanent damage was done.  Mom talked to him earlier and said he was full of his usual bull so the docs must be right.

I'm so glad he's doing ok now Indigo. Guess he was just hell bent and determined to get that copter ride! LOL

Well that one hell of a way to get in the copter.

No I am so glade he is ok.

yeah, I wouldn't be at all surprised if in a week or so every one is giving him hell about how far he'll go to get his helicopter ride.

All my energies to you and yours, he will be fine, especially if he's as tough as you say. My Grandpa had a stroke a few years ago, and the dr's said it was pretty bad, and he's good, so your pawpaw's should turn out to be just as good.    (bounce)

He had some great doctors and a great mindset....sounds like good genes too!! I am so relieved he is doing ok, and all is well...make sure he follows up with the doctor too....and I do hope he goes thru the proper channels for his next helocopter ride! LOL

Just thought you guys would like to know my Pawpaw is back to his old self.  A few days ago I called to check on him and Granny said he couldn't come to the phone because he was out in his garden.  He grows a garden every year full of veggies and flowers.  He also has a fruit orchard on the hill behind the house.  I think when I called Granny said he was actually out weed eating.

The doctor explained to Granny that the stroke was likely because they are 'lowlanders'  They were at a much higher altitude than they are use to and the air is thinner up there so the body has a harder time getting oxygen.
