Hello, I am a member of thoughts.com as well as pagan living.  The following has been copied from a fellow bloggers post.  Is there someone here that may be able to shed some light for this girl?  I would like to either post your comments onto her blog OR better yet, invite her to pagan living

looking forward to your comments.

What am I?

Hello, you might find this strange but I've been looking for an answer my entire life. So please, bear with me. When I was a child, six to be exact, I had a friend who cut herself on her hand and I tasted her blood. I wanted more and was totally clueless as to why. Now you might be thinking, it's probably just another vampire-crazed teenager lost in her fantasy world. I'm not. I am actually looking for a real answer. Ever since that momentous day at school, (which cost me therapy for life), lead me to believe there is always something more. There are different human beings on this earth. "Non-normal" humans. My parents think I'm crazy and well my therapist says its simply a phase. I doubt this is a phase, because its been going on since I was a mere child of six. I've gone through enough sh*t to realize i'm not crazy but actually more aware. I've researched "viral vampires" and "psychic vampires". you see, I feel aroused when I'm near blood or look at blood. I feel low energy around certain people and empowered with others as well as certain places. Perhaps there is a mixture of both? I haven't the slightest clue. If I'm not one of these, then i'm someone abnormal...I guess...My grandmother on my father's side(RIP) was a witch doctor. Could that have a connection? Please no comments on how this may be "psychological", I've heard  enough of that already. I'm looking for some strict straight-forward, serious answers. If you know anything, please send me a message as soon as possible. Thank you for reading.

Okay, this is a pretty simple question.

A lot of people get freaked out over anything involving blood -- it's a taboo (tapu) substance in the modern and original sense of the word.  I think your friend is no more or less unusual than anyone else, given what I know of her.

Psychologically, what provokes us and arouses us comes from two basic sources (and I admit this is a somewhat controversial view).  On one hand, we have instinctual triggers, and on the other, we have stimulants that are acquired by interaction with our environment.  The sight and taste of blood may possibly fall as a provacative substance in both categories.

Generally, the sight and taste of blood will provoke and excited response in most people.  Our brain is wired to give us an adrenaline rush at the site of blood; it's related to the fight or flight response.  If it is our blood or someone connected to us, we need to get the hell away from what ever drew it.  If it's someone else's, such as an opponent, we need to move in for the kill with all speed.  The base line is that the site of blood will give people an adrenaline boost of some form, though how we interpret our body's reaction may be influenced by personal learned experience.

It is perfectly human to have our minds powerfully assoicate an event with a sensory stimulate to provoke a response.  This is the classic Pavlovian model at work.  This is why certain scents induce specific moods and certain pictures relax us.  Honestly, I knew a person who found having their stomach rubbed in ciricles to be the most relaxing and sexually provacative thing on the earth because that was how their mom got them to relax and go to sleep when they were small children.  We all have unusual "triggers", many of us just don't realize them (or keep them confidential).

So, back to your friend, as a child, she knew was subject to a powerful psychologocal and physical event in tasting the other child's blood.  As mentioned, blood provokes us both instinctually and the ingestion of it is a cultural taboo.  The combination of instinct and breaking the cultural taboo would stimulate a powerful physical and psychological respose, that your friend interprets as pleasurable.  See -- no mystery at all.

As long as all is done safely and no one is harmed, I think your friend is pretty normal.  No, blood drinking is not acceptable in our current culture, butthen, what is culturallyl acceptable is generally relative.  Yes, this person is going to have a difficult time induldging in this particular behavior because of it being at odds with cultural norms, but I believe there is a pretty healthy subculture devoted to this, so she's not alone.  I know this person did not want a psychological response, but I think she sounds like the average person

Many blessings.

I'd say I'd have to agree with Stacey. Your friend is not abnormal in any way. Actually each of us has our own sense of 'normal' and no one has the right to tell another they are abnormal, becasue truth be known, they may be the abnormal one! (only by our definition!)

Granted if she does seek out this type of life, she really needs to excercise great caution due to all the buggin's these days.

Blood is life force energy. That is her draw, not the blood itslef, but the energy it contains.

the lust for blood is something i am familiar with. everyone has made great responces and although she doesn't want to hear the mental part of it. there is a clasification to it it's called renfeilds. it can be controled and lived with. the taiste of blood is heady and powerful in spirit and life but as long as she is careful she will be ok. my question is is it just human blood or does animal blood work also. to me animal blood isn't as good but it suffices. i just order my steaks verry rare and that is usual enof for me to control it.  that could be a way she could control it also and it is safer than human blood.
best of luck.

I too am humbled by the participation in this thread.  A community dedicated to be part of the village to guard this child.  I knew that I was out of my league in responding to her, and was given the task to explore the castle for insight. I thank you!

I have not as yet received a reply comment from our friend, I will take the opportunity to post it here when received.

The elders have already said and they are complete. Blood interests me and I cant think of a single person who isnt interested or at least struck the sight/idea of blood even a little.

Blood is the vital lifeforce that flows within us and it carries what we scientifically call the DNA and some may simply lack certain components (including iron defiency as ALICEJ has rightly mentioned)- I feel there are more components beyond the physical realm that may trigger the need for blood or "bloodthirstiness" but that component is more than just DNA and need that vital force from another or just experience another's.

But hereditary-wise there may be something passed on by her grandmother because I notice many different "streams" within myself and the ability to be in many places at once which I think is because of having mixed blood and so maybe she carries in her own blood something a bit special and different that is beyond the scope of DNA. The reason I mention DNA so much is because I use it as a placebo for the non-scientific thing that I mention but cant name. It could even be an influence she carries from her past life.

But overall, I dont think she is abnormal at all it is just a strange phenomenon which I think in some situations could prove a little dangerous for her given all the blood diseases that are going around and if someone has the urge... Just ask her to be careful that's all.

it could be a spirital thing. blood magick is very stronge and there is much power in blood both physical and spiritual. to a an empathic person depending on there gifts it can make it so you can always find the person know there physical and mental state among other things. it is something i have always been careful of. it was also beleaved that the blood also carried the person them selves in it and that the consuming of blood you would receave the persons traits. like drinking the blood of a worthy fallen enemy to get there strength or the blood of a dead famly member so that part of them will be with you always.so yes it can establish spirit bonds to those you drink from. even in the heat of passion through the menstral blood it can create powerful effects specialy with love and healing potions. that is why in some parts of europe the blood of a virgin was a highly prized thing because of the magick with in the blood.

Although you didn't mention how you ended up tasting her blood, is it because you went immediately into a healer mode? All experiences of the past can come forward.  Are you also drawn to the healing crafts?
Just a thought...
