...why can't I bury my body in a hole in the Earth?!!

I was just made aware, through random conversation, that is in unlawful to lay your unembalmed body into the soil after passing?!?! This upsets and urkes me to no end. The only way I can feel my cycle can be completed is for my body to return to nurture the soil to provide nutrients for life yet to come, and trying to become. Cremation is my second option, but as this returns the Phoenix once again to ashes I could easily dedicate my life to corpse rights lol...

any information or insight on would be appreciated. Who can direct me to the book law on this?!? It makes my lively blood boil.  Evil or Very Mad

ROFLMAO!!! he does look like he's chanting something and by his face, it taint a good thing neither!

As far as the burial thing goes, yup they will not let a body be buried without a box to contain it in. Once you've been embamed luv you aint' gonna 'return' to the soil anyways, that's what that crap is for. That's why most refer to it as being pickled!  Shocked

Taking the cremation route here.

Don't be upset, Realeyez, I think the reason you have to be in a box of some kind is to prevent animals from digging you up.    It's a public health matter, I believe.

Unfortunately, I have become knowledgable about the burial laws. I just lost my Mom this May and having to deal with all the burial process. Most state laws state if you are buried you have to be embalmed and placed in a casket. The only other way to do it is cremation. I know personally I would rather be buried and give back to the Earth, but I know it wont happen so I will be cremated and scattered somewhere. Plus the costs of being buried is insane. Just to have my mom cremated cost me $2000. If I had her buried it would have cost me 3 or 4 times more at least. Btw that is not including a marker and plot. I personally think too much land is taken up by cemetaries, but that is just my opinion.

I understand your anger at this issue, but think about it logically.  People might find some of your remains in a number of years and investigate you, I mean you could easily be a murder victim that they had come across, they won't know. A marker can be removed as well, so even that doesn't prevent the problem! I know it seems unfair but as a rule I think it much more sensible the way it is.

Just to note, my mum's ashes are scattered in the most beautiful place I kno, a crematorium full of roses and other flowers and gorgeous trees, I can't imagine anywhere nicer to rest.

True in the process of investigation burial does help unless the embalming processes destroys evidence. But I just have to remind myself she is in a better place with my dad.

Very interesting Earth Mother, I was not aware of green burials. I don't think they're legal here in PA yet, but I'd be willing to take up the cause Smile

Very excellent to come across this information. Thank you very much for taking the time to share you knowledge with me.

Green Burials are not "Illegal" per say, but that cemetaries have certain requirements of their own.  I suggest you ask then to please show you the law in black and white that states it is actually Illegal.

<snip>A green burial is a cremation alternative, and a viable alternative to  "traditional"  burial practices in the United States.  It is an earth friendly option when considering burial vs cremation.  Many families choose cremation because it's seen as more environmentally friendly than traditional burial.  Embalming, expensive sealed caskets and burial vaults are not required by law. Though traditional memorial parks may require them, a green cemetery or memorial nature preserve does not.  The simplicity of a green burial is in tune with nature and need not be expensive.<snip>

New Your has a green site, so not that far away from you.

Thanks Earth Mother I did go back to read more closely and came across the issue of legality. New York is not that far away and would be an option, but maybe I'll get into the green cemetary business myself. quite a worthy endeavor.

Oh Lavendar I've still got plenty of doors to unlock here and look forward to it. I had just always assumed that if you wanted to return to the Earth, you could. Was shocked to find out that was not the case...until now, thanks to Earth Mother. Otherwise, I'd be angry at the injustice and imbalance of the situation, like this guy  Evil or Very Mad

Great to see you back by the way.
