Laundry Recipes
By Natural Home Staff

Simple Washing Powder

16 cups baking soda
12 cups borax
8 cups grated castile or glycerin soap flakes*
3 tablespoons lavender, lemon, or grapefruit essential oil
Combine baking soda, borax, and soap flakes, add essential oil, and mix with a wire whisk. Use 1/8 cup of powder per load. This recipe makes enough powder to last a family of four one year.

*Source: Sunfeather Natural Soap Company, (315) 265-3648, www.sunsoap.com, or you can buy bars of castile soap (e.g. Dr. Bronner's) and grate with a kitchen grater.

Pre-Wash Stain Spray

1/2 cup white vinegar
1/4 cup baking soda
2 tablespoons ammonia
3 cups water
Stir together and fill a labeled spray bottle.

Spray on heavily soiled spots just before washing (as usual, test a hidden spot for colorfastness first).

Bleach/Brightner Substitute

1 cup hydrogen peroxide
1/4 cup lemon or grapefruit juice
12 cups water

Store in a labeled plastic jug.

Add 2 cups per load.

Thank you for the wonderful recipes Lady Elaine  Very Happy Love to use natural things for daily living.
When I was little my grandmum and mum used this to wash clothes:

Soapnut (with seed removed- the more tender the better)
Lemon juice
Homemade white vinegar
A little soda

Mix well in lukewarm water to use on clothes, dishes and even your floor. For floor we added a few drops of infused/essential oil of rose or lavender and we always sun dried clothes as much as possible.

Sad Nowadays it is sadly not possible because of the rigours of modern life.

Love, Light 'n' Laughter,

Hi!  Very Happy
My great granmother made washingfluid like this:
2/3 water in a bucket that can hold 10 liters
2 liters of ashes from the stove
Mix them and leave it for 24 hours
Pour it through a strainer and used 1/2 a liter of the fluid in every wash!

If you like to handwash your clothes you have to add water to the fluid, about1 liter fluid, and 10 liters of water.

It actually work, But who has that amount of ashes to use?  Confused   Very Happy

(Sorry for my english)
