I'll give Spongebob a nod as being better than most of the 'modern' cartoons.  But the subliminal music appreciation of Looney Tunes was wonderful, and wholly lacking in todays cartoons.  I was ten-ish and we were at a fireworks display for the 4th of July.  The display was accompanied by a symphony.  My mother was shocked when she realized I knew the songs being played.  I explained that one song was from the one where Bugs was messing with Elmer in a barber shop (yes the song was 'Barber of Seville' - think I got that spelt right) and that the previous one was played in another cartoon starring Bugs.  Twenty-ish years later, I still remember the look on my mother's face...it was a cross between 'WTF' and 'Really!?'.

The horrific cartoons are one thing I do not miss about working in a day care center.  I have been forced to watch Barney, Sponge Bob and all that crap.  If I ever have kid I will disconnect the cable and hunt down some DVDs of Tom & Jerry and the old Sesame Street.

I am not quite 30 yet but I can remember card catalogs and walking to the TV to change the channel Surprised .

LOL, my English teacher just posted this on our class website forum thingy (what would you call an online class website???).

I'm not thirty, but I get really bummed when my little brothers (now aged 8-10) don't know who certain cartoon character are and such. They bust up laughing at some of the songs I know and the think Michael Jackson is hilarious. They don't believe me when I tell them he used to be a hotty.

I remember the day that my youngest made me feel really really old. We were watching "That 70's show" and they were talking about albums and he turned and asked me " Mom, what's a record?". I realized that he had never seen one!! Crying or Very sad

LOL, Sibrei.  Yesterday in class, my students who are seven and eight years old had to identify (in a social studies test question) which picture was something that someone would use to listen to music in the early 1900s just like someone would use a CD player today.  They identified it but didn't know the name.  When I asked them what the name was, they could only describe it as that "thing that plays big, black CDs".  Laughing

19... and yes, looney tunes were much better! best cartoon ever! I watched gargoyles too... hehe small world.

we didn't have a cd player till I was 9, and even then, we kept our record player and used it till my brothers were both old enough to remember it. (they're both younger than me) We didn't get our first computer till I was 10, and even then, it was for "adults only" for another 2 years.  I had an awesome treehouse though! Wink dad and I built it, and who needed anything else!
Kids these days really have no idea how to read an analog clock! it's terrifying!
I still have an old sega game around somewhere...

thanks for a giggle!!

I'm not crazy, it's just that I enjoy talking to the trees and singing to the moon...

I might not be thirty yet, but I did catch the tale end of that, and since I grew up on the poor side, it took our family a while to get all that stuff you you said. No computers, no microwaves, no CABLE! I would get jealous when I would see other kids get out of their parents nice cars, while I had to get off the bus. And I didn't even had an Atari,  i just had to read a book for entertainment. That was so funny though! Laughing

My husband is a record junkie.  He has thousands.  So one day, he put a record on the turntable, the record ended and he asked his daughter to "turn it over" to play the other side.  She was about 19 years old (this was about 3 years ago) and she went and looked at it, and looked, and looked.  I asked her what she was waiting for, and she said "how to you turn it over?"  I was amazed.  I said, "pick up the record, turn it over, and press the start button to reset the needle".  She said "there's stuff on the other side?"  It was so funny, she had never actually seen a record being played before.

By the way, I think kids have it harder now.  They have no sense of adventure, no imagination, no idea on true friendship ...... they sit at home in from of the computer, tv, or video game.  They get no fresh air or exercise by just playing outside, bike riding, skating ~ we have to enroll them in a class.  We don't trust them to go out alone for the day without their phone.  When I was a kid, we had to be home by dinner and that was when the stret lights came on.  We were never home, never used money to have fun, we made fun by our selves.

But yes, that is too funny and oh so true.

We bought a soda shop that has been in this town for 60 years now.  As I was sorting through the store room I came across a milk crate full of 45's from the 50's 60's and early 70's.

My niece(daughter of my heart, 16 at the time) says, "How do you get them into the cd player they're too big?"  I told her you put it on your head and telepathically hear the music and she tried it.... I don't know about that girl sometimes.  When I explained the record player she acted like I was describing something from another planet.

Actually it is the coolest collection of 45's!
