Merry Meet all,

I am considering getting a small tattoo to represent my spirituality, and have been researching various pagan symbols, mainly variants of the pentacle.  I was just wondering what the significance of flower pentacle (or 'hidden' pentacle) is.

I love the design, I just would like to know more about what it represents before I consider using it as part of a tattoo design!

Foxi,

From the background that I come from or follow, there is little or no difference between the flower pentacle and the "traditional" varients.

If anything, it suggests a more natural style.  The pentacle occurs often in nature in a variety of ways.  It is easily found in the columbine flower.  Slice an apple latitudinally (sic?) through the seeds and it is found there.

The most mystical appearance is in the path of Venus over the course of roughly a year (I may be off on the duration). It does create a pentacle in the sky, which is believed to be at least part of why the pentacle is a symbol of the goddess.

In my opinion, the flower pentacle represents a more natural embrace of belief.  I also am of the opinion that whatever meaning the symbol expresses to you is just as important, if not more so, as any "old school" meaning that may be attributed to it.

Something else I just saw in it suggests a possible Celtic origin in the way a knotwork weave can be seen in it as well...or it may just be the late hour playing with my eyes.  Shocked

I love the look of it, and it wouldn't be hard to add in some color and make a loverly flower out of it, beautiful too look at for others  and still known to you it's true menaning.

My Pent is much like that as it is a celtic pent, hidden within all the intricate knotwork. Fellow pagans spot it, but others see the lovely star hidden in the knots.

RealEyez,

I know that I had read that about Venus; I think the name of the book was 'Math for Mystics'.  I would verify that but most of my books are still packed.

Even if it was not in that book, I still recommend it as it brings to light a lot of information about numerology as well as a useful bit about number magic.

Pretty design. I would just have your tat artist dress it up a bit if you would like. There is nothing I've heard of about the flower pentacle.

Though they go mad they shall be sane,
Though they sink through the sea
they shall rise again;
Though lovers be lost love shall not;
And death shall have no dominion.

A pentacle interlaced with five rings was considered a highly mystical combination: points and circles, male and female, the unity of perpetuual combination as in the Egg and Dart Frieze. This design also forms an interesting mandala of over-and-under weaving that carries the eye through endless meditation.

Flower and star together indicate earth and heaven.

This and other variations on the pentacle sometimes represented the Goddess's five stations of feminine life: birth, menarche, maternity, menopause, and death. When these stations were adapted to the use of both sexes, they were usually listed as birth, initiation (puberty), marriage, rest from labor, and death.

I also see this design as being more of nature.

I have this design on a wooden tarot box and no one who doesn't know what it is sees it as a pentacle. All they see is a pretty flower on a box. As with many of the symbols of our spirituality, only those who know, know.

Blessings,
