Before I get started on my rant I just want to say Hi to everyone and I'm sorry but I need to get this out!
The surgeons office called today to schedule an appt. that I don't even know what for. When I asked the lady she just told me that she would transfer me to the nurse. When I got the nurse I asked her what was going on since I hadn't heard from the Dr. yet. She told me that he wanted us to come in and talk about a corpal callisotomy. I asked which one that was, cause there is one operation we didn't want to do. All she keep saying was that the Dr. would explain it when we go to talk to him.

I said ok, and immediately called his Neurologist. Got a hold of his nurse, and told her I wanted to know what was going on since I hadn't heard from them and the surgeon just called to schedule an appt. She tells me that she didn't have any notes on it, she would have to talk to the Dr, and call me back. He had been in meetings all day, and she hadn't seen him. I tell her that if this is the one that we didn't want to do, we shouldn't have to go talk to him. She calls me back and says that the Dr. knows that we don't want to do this surgery, but to go talk to him anyway to see what he has to say, and that we are under no obligation to go through with the surgery. I said fine. So now we have an appt. to see the surgeon on July 16th., and I am so mad I can't see straight!

The reason we didn't want to go through with this surgery is because, it involves separating both haves of his brain, so they can't relay things to each other. If he is truly having seizures on both sides I realize that it would keep them from spreading to the other half, but i can't see how it would stop them like they hope. When we had went to see the surgeon before his last hospital stay he told us he was against doing this surgery, but he had to let us know of all our options before we left. So if he was so against it why would he want to talk about it now? Also what has changed between this test and all of the others to make him change his mind? These are the things that I really would like to know! The last time I went to see my Dr., I told him what was going on and how we felt about it, and he told me that he agrees with me. And that there are so many complications with that surgery that we should not go through with it. So we have decided to go talk to him, and than that way we can say we did for insurance purposes. Than we are going to search in St. Louis for a Dr. who will give us a second opinion on the matter. We chose St. Louis, because we know that their childrens hospital is one of the top ten in the country, and we have family up there that can help us if need be. (That is where I'm from originally.)
I guess what I really want to know is if I'm crazy for not going through with this or if taking this poor boy all the way up there is the right thing to do? I feel like there should be something that can help him, but these Dr.'s down here don't seem to have one clue as to what it is!

So now I have to sit here feeling completely helpless while we just wait for this d*mn appt. I hate this! I can't help this poor little boy of 8 who looks for his mommy to help. Instead I have to play like it is all going to be ok, and that he will get through it. When I know that it isn't going to happen any time soon!
Sorry again for the rant, but if I didn't get that out i was going to explode! I promise that my (soapbox) is over! At least until the next time I get to talk to one of those dumb a** Dr.'s again!
I hope that everyone is enjoying their summer, even if mine is the one from hell! Bright blessing to one and all!
