although i have no craft name, i have changed my name in real lfe.  or i have tired to facilitate it anyway.  my full name is kathryn.  which i like and do go by, but usually for official type things, the formal name i guess.  i  have been known as katie all my childhood.  sometime around 1997 i started going as KT.  which is the same but different.  but i always wanted to be a kat and i have been katfaerie online for a long time.  also my business name is Kat Faerie Designs.  so i go as kat now when i meet new people, usually related to my jewelry or online.  my family still calles me katie, but i'll answer to all three!  i usually can get an idea of where i know someone from based on what they call me~!

i have been thinking of katie kat as a way to reconcile those two.   Shocked

by the way, i am married but i did not take my husband's last name.  so what does that mean?  i gave my kids both names but mine last name is more of a middle name.  their father's last name is their last name.

i am open to a craft name though.  haven't had one fly my way yet.  somewhat related, it took me a long time to find my spirit animal too.  which is funny because it's actually my chinese horoscope.  so you would think that i should have figured that out sooner!   Laughing

hisssss.

actually now that i think about it.  i have two animal guides.  one i discovered and one that was given (or shown) to me by the grandson of the chief of the blackfoot nation.  so i do have a blackfoot name.  that is pretty magical.

kat, katie, KT, kathryn, not kathy!

Katie Kat is cute!  (cat)  Actually, I didn't take my current husband's last name, either.  Which is probably a good thing as mine has four letters and his is 9, which most people can't pronounce (Egyptian).  However, my last is the last of the ex-husband, and I have never taken the time or the money to change it back to my maiden name, which I would prefer above all others.

I know a lot of people use family "nicknames", like yours Brimaso, as craft names.  Unfortunately, mine was "sugar bugar"  Confused
I used a craft name a looooooong time ago when I had my first experience with the craft.  My natural name is Denise, which is the french feminine modification of Dionysus, which was pretty cool to me.  So I went by Dion.  But it doesn't fit me now.  I have one in mind, but, as I have no occasion to use it yet, it will lay dormant until/if the opportunity arises.

Interesting little thread we have going here.  I'm not sure I even have a craft name.  If I ever talk to the divine I just use whatever name fits me. (I have some in storage lol ) Sometimes, it's Rose. Other times it's Bramble.  I think a special one I'm going to add is Lucile for my Nene. She and my mother have always called me Lucile ever since I can remember.  It's a thought.  Anyway, awesomeness on the thread. And this is my 2 little cents in on it.

This is a very interesting thread. I don't have a craft name, but I think that there's something very liberating about
naming yourself, or waiting until a natural name comes to you. I struggle between the idea of thinking it would be cool to have an alter ego, and
thinking that it's unnecessary and would make me feel like I was role playing. So until it comes naturally, I just work with my own name.

Hello all and Merry meet! I've chosen the name Kyndar Willow and my sister is Kyndra Harmony. Kyndar and Kyndra came from us being Kindred Spirits. The Willow is because I have the ability to "bend" and go with the flow so to speak when all around us seems out of control. Harmony is because my sister is all about PEACE and LOVE!! LOL

As we get older we have noticed that our chosen names truly fit both of our personalities and our way of life.

I am married and my wonderful hubby totally supports my beliefs and my religion. He doesn't hold the same beliefs but does occasionally ask me for help in certain areas.  The hubs is a truck driver and has been very open to my putting "mojo" bags (lol that's what he calls the little bag of crystals and herbs) in his truck for protection and safe travel. He has even told me that he call definately tell a difference when there isn't a bag in his truck!

WELL... LOL... I guess I've rambled on enough... Ya'll have wonderful and blessed day! Merry Part and Blessed Be!!!

I don't truly have a Craft Name but, TaleTeller came about when I got on the computer boards and needed a name. I write so Teller of Tales became TaleTeller. On the game sites, I am coletedeux -- real name Carla in French class became Colette and deux is 2nd. A name I often see for myself is Valerie Kaye Franck where that came from is anyone's guess.

I have been told that when we decide to come here to Earth for an incarnation, we are the one who picks the name and our parents are just following the script we wrote.

Through all of this, TaleTeller seems to be who I am.

Merry Meet...

My real and Craft name are the same. I was born with a name that was explained to me when I was 8 and brought across into the Old Ways. It was then that things started to make sense and I learned the foundation of where I was going and why I am here today....

Dark Blessings,

This search for a name has actually been a very long and drawn out one for myself. At one point in time I jived with Silvermoon, then shifted to red angel, nah that didn't work. raven bladesong... needless to say I ran through a lot of different names but none of them really seemed to fit. I even started using other languages to create names. Those failed me as well. Then I started doing research again on my patron goddess, Tiamat. And one night I had a dream that she gave me a name, and in the rush of my dream recall I wrote it down. I ran searches on it and came to a scholarly work written in the 19th century about similarities between Sumerian and Egyptian mythologies and the focus of that name was on certain aspects of my patron goddess herself. It has stuck ever since. There was also some element of correspondence between understanding the name, and coming to the realization that this goddess who was with me all the time, was the one with whom I always felt the closest connection.

This concern for choosing a name has a long history. Yes many people chose alternative identities to conceal themselves from inquisitions. Also sometimes women writers in the medieval and renaissance periods chose male names for similar purposes. The power of the name at least as far as I know stems back to egyptian history, and that the belief that one's name is sacred. Much like today we say the eyes are the window to the soul, the name in the Egyptian world was like a resonance that revealed the true soul of the individual. Sometimes children were given two names at birth: one, the true name, and a second, that was used publically to conceal the true name. If you knew the true name of an individual (or an entity) you could have access to the most powerful magic and reak havoc on their lives. In a similar vein, this idea prevails in some circles of ceremonial magic dealing with the summonings of demons, using what's considered to be 'their true names'. The hebrews may have adopted this belief, because it also appears in similar ideas concerning the invokation of the 'true names of God'.

Modern reasons for this may be slightly different. I agree that for many, the reason for having a separate name might be to tune into the divine consciousness, and keep mundane thoughts and feelings out of any ritual work.

My public name is Mara, because my mom said that God wanted to name me Mary and my mom wouldn't do it, so she compromised. I had a lot of problems when I was still in her belly, so chalk it up to intense stress or an actual spiritual moment, that's what my name got to be..

I have no idea where I came up with Maryn. I've had that name since before I was 15 and signed up for my first hotmail.com account. Before that I think it was atlantischickie.. Lol. My last name with Maryn is Hampton, and that is from two areas; a popular hotel name (I was with my mom driving at the time and I saw the sign) and the last name in a romance novel..  So Maryn Hampton is my online first and last name. On the internet is the only place I use them..

The personal name I've been playing with for the past year is RedTail. Mainly because ever since I was little I've always wanted to have a red bushy Fox tail. And my natural hair color is red. It's simple, not egotistical, and I can say it without laughing at myself.  Smile

i never really though of having a craft name but in reading these messages i guess luckypawprints would be mine, it has been many an email name for me and login user for websites but also reflects me as a person, lucky was my first ever cat and in looking back he was a familiar to me before i even became a wiccan. he found our house when he was lost and set up home, always knew how to be there for me when i was feeling low or not well (always curled up on my abdomen when having period cramps was far better than asprin and hot water bottle) and always listened when i spoke to him whether out loud or in my head. i suppose this is the person i would want to be. receptive to everything around me yet independant like a cat. unfortunately he passed away and my new cat poppi is completely different (not necessarily in a bad way!!) she is more feisty and tempermental which is how i am now!!!
so i guess what i'm saying is is that my name really chose me out of circumstance (as lucky himself chose me) he has always left a pawprint on my heart as to how connected to an animal (and therefore nature itself) one can be.  nature can influence you in both the positive and negative and therefore you have to embrace what is in front of you (at this moment the afore mentioned feisty poppi) and love it for all it is, even if its not what you orginally intended.

boy this was a fair rant, hope y'all still awake!!!!

blessed be

Aw, that's so sweet about your cat Lucky.  What a nice way to honor your furbaby!  I think most people who have pets can claim that one really special pet that connected with them at a deeper level.  Mine was an Irish Setter named Heather.  She was a soul-friend in a very profound way, and even though she crossed over 22 years ago I still miss her.

When I first started in the Craft I was curious about a craft name and during a meditation I merely expressed a curiousity and I was immediately given it in a very sure way.  It was like, " hmmm, I wonder what my name would be....... "_____" BAM.  There it was, and it fit and felt right, like it had always been there or I'd known it before and forgot.  Wierd, but then again, maybe not.

As I am going thru a divorce here in the mundane world, I have been thinking about what to do about my name when it's all over with.  My maiden name was Smith, I married a Miller.  How boring.  My family's history is that their name was changed to Smith when my great-grandfather came to Ellis Island.  I did some research while my grandparents were alive and may change my name back to the original "Kasperevich".  It would cause a bit of an upheaval in the family, all so eager to be mainstream.   Twisted Evil Which makes it all the more tempting....
