Firstly, I'm not sure if there are any spells that are shared, I suppose the word would be.  I mean, "generic" spells that someone else makes but that anyone can cast.  So, pardon my... ignorance.  I have a lot of it.

Anyway.

I am teetering on the edge of casting my first spell.  I would like to cast one that aids in good fortune, or luck.  Which is ... correct.  What would I need for that kind of spell?

Before I finish: I should note that I am far too broke at present to buy anything.  If there is anyway to cast such a spell with just household items, that would be ideal for my current state.  I am now on the tail end of hitting rock bottom.  And, in case you were wondering, it's very rocky down here.

Anyway.  Yes.  I would like tips on what I should do and what I should use.

Curiously, do you have to use anything at all in a spell?  Or is the power truly in the words?  I've wondered if a spell's power comes more from one's (soul/spirit/energy/etc) than from the ritual.  Not trying to compare spellcasting to self-help, I mean literal power, not just the force of sheer will.  (If will alone were enough, I'd own the whole frigging world.)

A spell can involve many components, or none at all. There are various components that can be used to increase the potency of the spell, which is especially useful if you are just starting out. Here are some house hold things you might be able to use to put together a spell. You might want to look for characteristics of ordinary stuff. For example, drink ginger ale as part of the ritual. Use old pieces of jewelry or money as a focus.

Colors: use green, gold, or brown
Herbs: sugar, lentils, fenugreek, mint, cinnamon, allspice, ginger, nutmeg
Write out a check for the amount you need and visualize it being cashed in full.

The first thing that occurs to me...is it really "luck" that you're after? Casting anything is always tricky business...when you ask something of the universe, it has a nasty habit of listening, and if you're not really clear on what it is you need and/or want, odd things can happen that you weren't expecting. You might cast a spell for luck and narrowly miss getting smooshed by a semi on the freeway rather than winning the lottery.

It sounds like you need a job, or a pay raise, or help managing your budget/bills. Ask yourself which it really is, what would quickly, neatly, and efficiently improve your situation. Perhaps what you really need isn't luck, but rather courage to speak to a financial adviser, to your boss, or  to inquire at the places to which you've applied. Perhaps what you really need is the energy to budget your accounts or write up and mail out resumes. Do you see what I mean?

Then, remember that a spell is help, not a poof-then-its-there issue. It's like the joke about God promising a Rabbi that he would win the lottery. His Rabbi-friends all made fun of him for not winning week after week. The Rabbi got angry and asked God what was going on, and God told him that he would need to buy a ticket before he could win the lottery.

Whatever you should do should be reinforced by your physical actions, as well as your will.
