Normally, I'm the quiet type here.  I never post, just read.  This time however I do have a question and its a general one so I guess this is the correct forum to ask this.

I am going with my hubby of 31 years to New Orleans soon to celebrate our anniversary.   We've been planning a trip for quite some time and finally have all our ducks in a row, tickets bought, hotel reserved and we are starting to throw things together into our suitcases as we go by them.  Does anyone out there (and I know some of you live in that area) have suggestions as to what are the best things to do and for that matter, the things we should really avoid trying to do?  We will be there for nearly a week.  I bought a guide book and have read up on a few things on line but would really like for someone whose been there a lot or lives in the area to give me some guidelines.

thanks

I live on the far end of the state, but I have been there a lot. If  you are staying downtown (French Quarter, Convention District) there are tons of things to do, shops. Just stay on well lit streets. Its save enuff with some precautions.
The World War II musem is wonderful, i think the huge aquarium is open, The New Orleans Zoo is also great (I was at all of these pre-Katrina but think they are all up to par. Casinos, bars, etc. The French Quarter walking tours are really cool, lots of history, voodoo shops etc.
Jackson Square and St. Louis Cathedreal. You can even go on swamp tours  Very Happy

Depends on what you like, they have so much, and so much different from other big cities.
Or even Saints Football (yes I live here and am one of the dozen or so that ain't saints fans)

Almost forgot the Riverwalk on the Mississippi River, very large mall, and very nice. Also you can take a steam boat cruise.  Smile

Let me think of more.

Just watch where you go, stay in populated areas, do not cross North Rampart street except on a daylight walking tour with a group.

Hope this helps

edit to add: Downtown, take comfortable walking shoes, and umbrella, and temps this time of year will vary, cool in morning to hot in afternoon, and you will love the humidity

The older I get, the less I know, the happier I am
