I know I haven't been very active - and it's been a long time, but very recently I've been doing a few spells recently and I noticed I do them quite a bit differently from what others might be used to. With that, I decided to share what I've learned and while it might not be what people are used to I thought I'd give it a try.
This is by no means my invention, while I thought I was the only one doing this technique, I found other young witches doing the same thing on Tumblr. This technique would be really good for those who are looking for a way to provide an easy to follow structure to their spells, a skeleton, or draw up a basic idea of what they'd like to do. For me, this is how I generally do my spell work from start to finish, and fill in the blanks as I speak out loud.
Name
The name if your spell might seem simple and a lot of people don't give it much thought. "Oh this is a cleansing spell" "This is a 'Find a New Home Spell'" and leave it at that, but the name is actually really important when doing point form because you're not doing a lot of elaborate chanting, rhyming, or fancy foot work. It's a very direct approach to spell work. This means the name of your spell has to be direct as well. What is your intention, what is it's purpose? Are you looking for a new job? Are you celebrating the Esbat? Really, most spell names that you already use work, as long as it describes what you're doing.
The Structure
Now here is where things get harder to describe. Really, there's no right or wrong way to do this. The first thing as with any spell is what the intention is. I'm going to use a spell I worked on as an example.
Finding a New Home
This is a great way to make a structural skeleton for a spell, and of course you can add details to it if you want - such as spell components that you normally would. A spell like this takes me about half an hour to write because it really makes me think about what I really want, and the little details of what that would mean. It helps you be specific with your goal and really helps you think about "okay, what do I really need right now?"
I hope this was helpful to people.
