The Sun in willful Leo butts heads with radical Uranus in practical Taurus on Monday; New Moon in Leo on Wednesday; and Mercury ends its retrograde motion moving direct in Cancer on Wednesday; Mars fights with Pluto on Sunday.
Let?s kick this off with a brief astrology lesson; there?s a little math, but nothing too scary. Signs that are 150 degrees apart from each other on the zodiac wheel ? like for example, Capricorn and Leo ? have little if anything in common. They don?t share a compatible element ? Capricorn is Earth and Leo is Fire ? and they don?t belong to the same mode or modality ? Capricorn is Cardinal and Leo is Fixed. Sort of like we humans, they find it very difficult to resonate with each other and very little reason to get along or cooperate. (Astrologers call this 150 degree angle an In conjunct or Quincunx)
Currently we have multiple planets in Leo (Sun, Venus, and Mars) and multiple planets in Capricorn (Saturn, South Node of the Moon, and Pluto) which creates an underlying tension in the zodiac. The dramatic and playful performances of Leo do not resonate at all with the pragmatic duty-bound Capricorn world view. It?s very likely Leo views those Capricorn planets as stodgy, unyielding, and old fashioned. Sort of amusing when you consider Leo is the stubborn fixed sign ? a bit of projection maybe? On the other hand, those Capricorn planets are probably judging the Leo group as childish, ostentatious and superficial. To be fair, Capricorn might be a bit jealous of Leo?s ability to garner the applause and not take things so seriously. Capricorn could certainly learn to lighten up!
Mars in Leo, specifically has been in an awkward spot with Saturn in Capricorn during this past week and going into this week. It was compounded by the fact, Mars was also making this 150 degree In conjunct to Neptune in Pisces at the same time. When it rains; it pours. Mars is the planet of action, inspiration and motivation. You can probably find many examples in your own life of feeling limited, controlled, or generally frustrated this past week. The good news: give it a couple of days, maybe a week, and most of this energy will resolve. The bad news: on Sunday the 4th, Mars repeats this in conjunct challenge with Pluto the planet of elimination and transformation.
I sincerely hope we learned a thing or two from some of our interactions last week. Did you find yourself in what felt like no-win situations? What did you do? Is there a way you could handle it differently next time? We might find the same situations rolling around again this week, or similar ones. It will be really helpful if we can recognize the storm clouds building and make some different responses. That is unless you were perfectly satisfied with your choices last week; if so keep doing what you are doing! For the rest of us, let?s get creative. Power struggles can teach us a lot about our own power and need for control.
Also this week, there is a New Moon in sunny, entertaining, and willful Leo on Wednesday evening. Most of you will be delighted to hear, Mercury ends its retrograde motion on Wednesday night too. See, there is a lot to be thankful for, and some really inspirational energy brewing.
The New Moon in fiery Leo is highly creative, dramatic, and passionate. It reaches into our hearts and finds a spark and fans a flame of desire. Our wish might include a dream about a romantic relationship or even a desire for a friend or companion, a soul mate who shares our values and our thoughts. But this passion might also be directed toward other life goals including a yearning for ?right livelihood?, the perfect career and job, more abundance, a new home, or maybe fame.
Leo energy is driven towards creativity and self-expression with a desire for recognition. Leo likes to live large! And this New Moon chart includes Sun, Moon, Mars and Venus all in sunny Leo, so there is no lack of desire and fuel for this fire. Revolutionary Uranus in Taurus can throw a wrench in the works, but mostly in terms of timing. Although Uranus is associated with spontaneous and split-second timing, in Taurus he is forced to initiate slower changes or make adjustments that take time to manifest.
Look into your heart for what is moving and driving you at this time. Passions are unique and don?t have to align with what others want for you, in fact they probably won?t! This is a time to fan the flames, nurture the dreams, and demonstrate patience. Incorporate too much fuel and our actions might be misdirected like a rocket fired without a target. Identify your passion and tenderly support and build it. When you are clear about your goal you will find more than enough synchronicity in the universe to guide you on the path.
Until next week, let go and wear loose clothes.
MONDAY
July 29
Moon in Gemini / Cancer
Void of Course Moon enters Cancer at 4:31 am
We may be feeling nostalgic and sentimental as we start the week under the influence of a sensitive and family-oriented Moon in Cancer. But the kids, (that?s all of us) are feeling restless and a bit feisty as the Moon connects with revolutionary Uranus in mid-afternoon. This connection between Cancer and Taurus is fairly compatible, but one must never get too comfortable believing we can predict the influence of Uranus. This is the planet of spontaneity, with the tendency to shatter forms and structures, including our habits and routine ways of doing things. We are well advised to heed the stir of energy when the Moon connects with Uranus as this is merely a prelude of what?s to come.
In late afternoon, the Sun in willful Leo makes a perfect square to Uranus. Unlike the Moon?s harmonizing sextile earlier, this square sparks conflict. This is a very independent and rebellious energy over which a sentimental Moon will have little influence. We may be sensitive, but it?s more accurate to say we are touchy and overly attentive to any perception that someone or something is pushing us around, controlling our lives, or limiting our options.
The reactivity of this energy may be compounded by the lingering effects of Mars in awkward and unyielding connections to both hard-nosed Saturn and ephemeral Neptune. As the planet of motivation and action, Mars is feeling stifled by domineering Saturn and Neptune?s penchant for confusion and literally watering-down his efforts.
The astrological weather report is calling for blustery winds, impulsive decisions and bold behavior. Better to use this energy to explore, research, and gather your facts than to rush into foolish and impetuous choices. The Cancer Moon will continue to tug at the heart strings reminding us no man is an island and we don?t exist in a vacuum. When the milieu is chaotic and everything feels urgent, understanding how your goals serve not only yourself but the greater good may be your best barometer. Today, rushing is not your friend and will almost certainly lead to making unnecessary mistakes.
Daily Muse: Stories and narratives are one of the most powerful things in humanity. They're devices for dealing with the chaotic danger of existence? If I'm going to be a caged bird, I'll sing the best song I can. (Wes Craven ? Sun in Leo, Uranus in Taurus)
TUESDAY
July 30
Moon in Cancer
Moon Goes Void of Course 8:33pm enters Leo Wednesday at 6:18am
This is the last day of the lunar cycle and the Moon in her home sign of maternal Cancer has no intention of letting us count her out. Moonlight may be all but gone as she goes dark with the New Moon (tomorrow), but she is certainly not silent. This Moon energy is older, wiser and a lot smarter than lunar energy with less maturity. Her influence is bold and straightforward, reminiscent of the mother through years of experience who has become the wise woman. She cares not just about home and family but about the bigger picture and the legacy of the family and community.
We stand up to a lunar opposition with Saturn in the early morning, find favor with a lunar trine to Neptune mid-day, and try to hold our position when the Moon opposes Pluto this afternoon. Emotions may be variable, but our rational minds are sharp. Emotionally we may be unyielding and find more than one opportunity for ?tough love? as we move through our day. Here we certainly meet the assertive aspect of Cardinal Cancer.
Our need to be at the top of our game and unflinching is underscored with Mars making a challenging in conjunct aspect to Neptune today. This is part of the transiting Yod pattern that came into play last Friday but will start resolving tomorrow. The shadow to Mars in Leo is arrogance and selfish behavior; Neptune in spiritual Pisces is trying to teach us a thing or two about selflessness.
This is also the last day of Mercury moving retrograde as the planet of thinking and communication returns to direct motion tomorrow night. The Moon and Mercury unite tonight and I can?t help thinking, a profound insight will be forthcoming for each of us. Heads up and hearts open!
Daily Muse: If you have ability in a certain area, why not capitalize on it and improve it and use it?...Everything is habit forming, so make sure what you do is what you want to be doing. (Wilt Chamberlain Sun in Leo with three Virgo planets)

Mercury Retrograde ends 8:58pm
Void of Course Moon enters Leo 6:18am
The Moon slips into dramatic and self-expressive Leo early this morning, within hours of meeting up with the Sun tonight. The New Moon is abundant with possibilities even if this seed is sown in darkness. On its destined path to the Sun the Moon will first meet up with Venus and her message about what is most important will certainly be incorporated into this new lunar cycle. The Moon will also square independent Uranus. We?ll have to take this into consideration in tempering our expectations.
The New Moon in fiery Leo is highly creative, dramatic, and passionate. It reaches into our hearts and finds a spark and fans a flame of desire. Tonight Mercury stations direct, which means metaphorically it slows to a crawl, stops, and looks forward again. We will be incorporating important life lessons over the next few weeks as it heads back through Cancer and into Leo; but tonight marks the end of the retrograde motion.
Daily Muse: If you just set out to be liked, you will be prepared to compromise on anything at anytime, and would achieve nothing? Don't follow the crowd, let the crowd follow you? I am extraordinarily patient, provided I get my own way in the end. (Margaret Thatcher ? Moon in Leo)
THURSDAY
August 1
Moon in Leo
Moon Goes Void of Course 1:48pm enters Virgo Friday at 6:20am
Yesterday we may not have had the time or the interest to fully embrace the playfulness of the Leo Moon, but today could be an entirely different story. A lunar trine with abundant Jupiter in adventurous Sagittarius gets us out of bed and out of the house early. Likewise when the Moon joins lively Mars this afternoon, we have motivation and energy to spare.
This is a great day to take action on an intention set on the New Moon yesterday. One small step can be momentous in the long-run. Feed your dreams, make an outline, develop a strategy, make connections or start gathering the necessary supplies and resources. Although the plethora of Leo energy makes for some fabulous social interactions, Leo is also driven when it comes to creativity and individual self-expression. Reserving part or all of the day just for yourself can be a great way to establish important boundaries and send a strong message your passions are important and you are serious about attaining your goals.
In the middle of the night (morning of Friday August 2nd) we may not be awake for it, but Venus bumps into a square with Uranus. Although the energy isn?t at its peak until well after midnight, it?s likely we will be feeling its building tension through the evening. This may make it hard to find peace in relationships; all the more reason to maybe plan an evening on your own, or at least give yourself and a partner some space. Under this influence almost no one will appreciate someone who is needy, clingy, or whiny. Finding the much needed personal space within a partnership is a valuable lesson that will ultimately strengthen the relationship. Being alone doesn?t mean lonely.
Daily Muse: Yeah, it's nice to look up to people, but the more you try to be somebody else, the less you are of yourself. (Joe Montana ? Moon in Leo)
FRIDAY
August 2
Moon in Leo/Virgo
Void of Course Moon Enters Virgo at 6:20am
In the middle of the night Venus made a harsh square to Uranus. With any luck the rough edges will have smoothed out before we wake. If your dreams are filled with conflict, it might be a message from your psyche you are feeling somewhat stifled by a relationship, job, or responsibility. If so, think of creative ways to rearrange your priorities to feel more in balance with yourself and your goals.
The Virgo Moon takes the reins early this morning which can sometimes feel like a rude awakening after sunny and playful Leo was up at bat. Remember he still is running the show, with Sun, Venus and Mars still cruising through this fire sign.
Seems hardly fair we have to go back to work literally or figuratively on a Friday. Even though the Virgo Moon can sometimes mimic her hard-working cousins, Taurus and Capricorn, today she has her moments of finding the efficient and maybe even the easy way to do something. It?s likely we?ll be motivated to productivity throughout the day, but be looking for an escape this evening when the Moon moves into a harmonious alliance with Uranus. With the rebellious planet in sensual Taurus, it may mean we are looking for a reward that involves a bodily pleasure. A night out with great food might be the ticket, but be creative and willing to think outside the box. Whenever Uranus is on the scene we are able to find pleasure in unexpected places.
Daily Muse: There's a rebirth that goes on with us continuously as human beings. I don't understand, personally, how you can be bored. I can understand how you can be depressed, but I just don't understand boredom. (Dustin Hoffman ? Sun in Leo, Uranus in Taurus)

Moon in Virgo
Moon Goes Void of Course 9:27pm enters Libra Sunday at 6:30am
We start off on a productive track this morning with the practical Virgo Moon finding support and purpose with a link to Saturn in Capricorn. May I suggest we schedule the most important things on our agenda for first thing this morning? By mid-day, the distractions start piling up when the Moon opposes boundary-less Neptune in Pisces. A friend tempts us with a leisurely lunch or shopping trip, or unexpected people or options start popping up. Don?t judge yourself if you indulge a bit; it?s likely we?ll feel back on track in late afternoon when the Moon connects with Pluto. It will be easy to separate the important from the frivolous and we?ll be in good shape going into the evening.
Conversations and communications are productive tonight with the Moon making a favorable alliance with Mercury. Now that Mercury is moving forward again, we might be able to successfully work out some kinks in our relationships. Open and honest communication is the key here and willingness to express your expectations and your true feelings. The Virgo Moon is known for her strengths as an analyst. She can be reserved, emotionally cautious and somewhat distant. If you truly want to connect with a loved one, don?t use guile, manipulation, or make excuses. This Moon will see right through you and will not be the least bit amused or sympathetic.
Daily Muse: Being President is like being the groundskeeper in a cemetery: there are a lot of people under you, but none of them are listening. (Bill Clinton ? Sun in Leo
SUNDAY
August 4
Moon in Virgo/Libra
Void of Course Moon enters Libra at 6:30am
The Moon glides into harmony-seeking Libra today, but all is not bliss. Indeed we may feel like we are the Libran diplomat or dancer moving from one side to the other in an attempt to keep the peace. With multiple planets in Leo (Sun, Venus, and Mars) and multiple planets in Capricorn (Saturn, South Node of the Moon, and Pluto) there is an underlying tension in the zodiac as the dramatic and playful antics of Leo do not resonate at all with the pragmatic duty-bound Capricorn world view. Mars specifically has been in an awkward spot with Saturn during the last 10 days and just when the conflict seems to be resolving, he now finds himself in a similar uncomfortable boat with Pluto. This one could be a bit more of a challenge as Mars and Pluto share some common desires, namely for power.
Although this can be a volatile energy, and certainly uncomfortable if we find ourselves in conflict with others, it should be quickly resolving and can be handled with finesse. If we go on autopilot we will likely be the perpetrators or recipients of compulsive, manipulative, or domineering behavior. We may even feel like we are not in control of our own thoughts and behavior, but rather are being driven by internal urges and forces. If we choose awareness, the day can unfold very differently. Note to self: take Double dipped dark chocolate ice cream bars off the shopping list!
It?s a test of our intentions. Can we resolve to make ourselves responsible for our happiness or lack thereof instead of jumping to blame others or circumstances? Ironically when we make others responsible for our feelings we are actually giving away our power. Every time we find ourselves thinking, or saying, ?I could be happy, healthy, prosperous or etc, if only you were different or this situation was different? it should be a red flag. Stop and reconsider what you?re thinking or saying.
Tonight the emotionally energy feels more settled as the Moon greets Venus and more peaceful values seem to have the upper hand.
Daily Muse: Thinking is difficult, that?s why most people judge. (C.G. Jung ? Sun and Uranus in Leo)

SUNDAY
