Astrological Highlights for the week of November 18: Mars enters Scorpio on Monday; Mercury stations direct on Wednesday; Sun enters Sagittarius on Friday.
Late Monday night Mars, the planet of motivation and action, is pleased to leave the partnership sign of Libra in favor of being in powerful Scorpio. Mars is considered the traditional ruler of Scorpio (before Pluto was included in the Western Astrology lineup) and is still considered the co-ruler. Needless to say, he feels right at home in Scorpio!
As the planet of desire, this placement of Mars resonates with intense focus sometimes to the point of obsession. Mars in Scorpio sets his sights on something or someone and will move mountains to achieve the goal. There is no mercy for anything or anyone who tries to interfere or gets in his way; did someone mention ruthless? This energy is intensely passionate and has a formidable reputation of being uncompromising when it comes to going after what it wants. But this can be a good thing demonstrated by the inspirational and transformational influence of people born with this energy including Robert F. Kennedy, Oprah Winfrey, Dr. Phil McGraw, Grace Kelly, and Gandhi.
While Mars is in Scorpio, through the first week in January, we can expect things to noticeably heat up! Love is unbridled and maybe possessive; romance is sexy, sex is hot, and passion is awakened on multiple levels. Think about what excites and motivates you and move in that direction. The prevailing winds are at your back or more aptly, the motivation is coming from a place deep within you. Enjoy the ride; this should be fun.
At the end of the week everything seems a bit brighter and more hopeful. On Friday the Sun leaves Scorpio and ushers in the season of Sagittarius. Jupiter-ruled Sagittarius is the sign of teaching, learning, adventure and hope. But it would be a mistake to assume Sagittarius is about blind faith and boundless optimism. Sagittarius is inspired by the mythology of Chiron the Centaur ? half man, half horse, half immortal and half mortal. As one of the mutable signs, Sagittarius joins Gemini, Virgo, and Pisces as a sign both blessed and cursed in a constant state of dualism ? with a hoof, wing, foot, or fin in two worlds.
Chiron the Centaur aspires to learn, know, and experience ?more?. As the Wounded Healer he has gained much wisdom through personal study and experience, enough in fact to offer hope and healing to others, even if his knowledge and skill is still inadequate to heal himself. The Sagittarius spirit is on a continuous quest for truth and wisdom and uses travel, study and personal experience to explore the world and expand his horizons.
Along the way Sagittarius learns firsthand what it means to be limited by the trappings of the physical body and universe, how to deal with natural limits and boundaries. So just in case you believe Jupiter-ruled Sagittarius to be more fortunate or luckier than others, you?re probably being a bit short sighted. They are lucky in the same way a person dedicates themselves to a project or career for 20 years and then becomes an ?overnight success?!
Indeed Sagittarius is lucky because this sign never loses faith. Despite setbacks, delays, and stumbling blocks along the way they have an uncanny ability to believe in themselves and in their overall purpose. The wise ones are also humble, recognizing their true power lies in their connection to an unending source. They never stop seeking guidance.
During this ?lucky? season of Sagittarius our good fortune will depend on our ability to turn lemons into lemonade, to quickly move past disappointments, and to look beyond pettiness. Having just been through a powerful Mercury retrograde cycle we may be lingering in a place of being self-oriented and circumspect. (Did I mention the Mercury retrograde pattern is over? Mercury goes direct on Wednesday.)
It?s time to look for the bigger context of our lives and see beyond problems to the inevitability of answers and solutions.
Until next week, let go and wear loose clothes.
MONDAY
November 18
Moon in Leo
Mars enters Scorpio 11:41pm
The Moon is in willful Leo today. Many of us start the day with a take charge attitude. Recent success influencing others with our charm could contribute to an overly cocky attitude which won?t go over well when the Moon squares retrograding Mercury in late morning. Mercury may have a message or insight to share. But communications are blocked or stifled if others are put off by an air of superiority; and if we think we have all the answers we are closing our minds to something potentially useful.
Late tonight Mars the planet of motivation and action is pleased to leave the partnership sign of Libra in favor of being in powerful Scorpio. Mars is considered the traditional ruler of Scorpio (before Pluto was included in the Western Astrology lineup) and is still considered the co-ruler. Needless to say, he feels right at home in Scorpio!

Daily Muse: It was thanks to Alfred Hitchcock that I understood that murder scenes should be shot like love scenes and love scenes like murder scenes. (Grace Kelly - Sun, Mercury and Mars in Scorpio and Venus in Libra; Hitchcock was born with Moon and Jupiter in Scorpio and Mars in Libra)
TUESDAY
November 19
Moon in Leo/Virgo
Moon goes Void of Course at 1:11pm enters Virgo at 5:54p
We are feeling fairly on top of things this morning under the influence of a confident Leo Moon. An early afternoon lunar connection to Jupiter in optimistic Sagittarius lifts our mood and spirits even higher. But the balloon seems to burst just a bit later when the Sun in Scorpio squares the Moon ushering in the last quarter of this lunar cycle. If you have a personal or professional meeting or event that depends on the cooperation and approval of others, schedule it this morning, not this afternoon, if you have a choice.
Quarter Moon energy is usually emotionally challenging and this one is no exception. Fragile egos are the most vulnerable. The Leo Moon craves attention and appreciation and this afternoon it may be very hard to find. If our self-esteem is closely tied to feedback from others, we?re in trouble.
This is a time we have to dig deep within ourselves and remember our core values. Living for other people?s approval keeps us dancing like puppets constantly trying to read minds and adjust our behavior accordingly. Self-love should not be a reflection of what other people think of us. When choosing whether or not an action is right or wrong, beneficial or detrimental, consider how it aligns with who you are and what you want to achieve.
The Leo Moon advises that we keep our sights high and remember it can be lonely at the top. Great leaders and transformational influencers don?t usually achieve results by trying to be the popular kid. They honor their passions and are willing to go out on a limb for the sweetest fruit and most worthwhile victories. It?s not unusual for this Moon energy to be associated with personal sacrifice. Many of our heroes are common individuals willing to put shared interests above personal desires. Years ago a man witnessed a plane veer off an icy runway and into an even icier river. Watching a passenger drowning, he dove into the water at great personal risk and peril to save her. Others stood on the river bank and watched. When asked later why he did what he did, he responded he didn?t think, he just did it automatically in response to seeing her struggle.
This evening the Moon changes gears as she enters reclusive Virgo. She finds a friend in Mars in passionate Scorpio. Don?t be afraid to set some boundaries tonight with others including pushing back on social activities if you aren?t feeling up for it. This is the last day of Mercury moving retrograde. Taking some time to review where you have been and what you have learned will be useful. A quiet evening with a loved one could prove to be both enlightening and healing.
Daily Muse: Few men are willing to brave the disapproval of their peers, the censure of their colleagues, the wrath of their society. Moral courage is a rarer commodity than bravery in battle or great intelligence. Yet it is the one essential, vital quality for those who seek to change a world that yields most painfully to change?Only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly. (Robert F. Kennedy ? Sun, Mars and Saturn in Scorpio)
WENSDAY
November 20
Moon in Virgo
Mercury moves Direct 11:12am
Sometimes we can?t always see the next step on the path, but we should never lose faith that we are being guided on our way. When Mercury stops its backward motion today shortly before Noon (Pacific Time), things are definitely looking up. It will take a few days before we start feeling its forward momentum. Meanwhile the positive results of lessons learned will continue to accumulate. Mercury doesn?t get back to 27 Scorpio (where it was when it started moving backward) until December 7th. Revelations will continue to be unveiled until at least then.
The Moon in Virgo is service-minded but she is also feeling the need for solitude to recharge her batteries. Virgo is ruled by Mercury so today is more poignant in terms of balancing the time we prioritize for ourselves with that dedicated to others, work, or service. A lunar alignment with Mercury this afternoon is a good omen for increasing clarity, so even if we started the week or the day with hesitation about our direction, we are likely now seeing the path more plainly.
Tonight the Moon opposes dreamy Neptune. People may entice us out of our shells to watch a movie, attend a cultural event, or simply socialize. If you want more time alone, this is a great evening for creative hobbies and activities, especially writing. Late tonight when the Moon aligns with disciplined Saturn, we get a second wind and stay up late feeling energized and productive.
Daily Muse: True elegance for me is the manifestation of an independent mind. (Isabella Rossellini ? Mars in Scorpio)
THURSDAY
November 21
Moon in Virgo/Libra
Moon goes Void of Course at 7:31pm enters Libra at 8:20pm
We may feel like we are spinning our wheels or working extra hard for a mere smidgeon of progress today. The Moon in determined Virgo may not be too happy as she prides herself on being able to control her agenda and most everything else in her life. Don?t tell her; control is more of an illusion than anything real!
With Luna squaring both Venus and Jupiter in Sagittarius all indications say we are juggling many priorities right now. To go with the metaphor, we?ve got lots of balls in the air, and actually may be doing quite a good job, all things considered. However, we may not be feeling very satisfied ? like we?re putting out fires all the time instead of making progress on a single goal that is important to us. If we are juggling resources or finances, it might also be a stressful time.
We might be balancing the demands of work with the responsibilities of a relationship, home and family. Any of these areas may be in flux and requiring more time and attention. This might indicate a ?good problem? like a promotion at work, a new love interest or marriage or a new addition to the family. These are exciting but also take energy!
There is no perfect formula for figuring out the balance, so don?t judge yourself too harshly. Virgo may try to hold us to an idealistically high stand of perfection. Applaud yourself for your flexibility and tenacity and resist the urge to focus on how you could have done things differently or accomplished more. If you really are balancing too much, delegate, release some responsibilities, or demote the less important to the bottom of the list.
When the Moon and Sun come back into harmony this evening it may be easier to see we have actually accomplished more than we think we have. The Moon glides into graceful, artistic, and partnership-oriented Libra in late evening emphasizing the importance of balance. This shines a spotlight on the very areas of your life where you might want to make some adjustments; but maybe not tonight. Leave something for tomorrow!
Daily Muse: To give pleasure to a single heart by a single act is better than a thousand heads bowing in prayer. (Mahatma Gandhi ? Sun in Libra, Mercury, Venus and Mars in Scorpio)

Sun Enters Sagittarius 7am
The Sun seems to shine a little brighter today, even if it?s just in our minds, as the season of Sagittarius enters. Jupiter ruled Sagittarius is the sign of teaching, learning, adventure and hope. It?s time to look for the bigger context of our lives and see beyond problems to the inevitability of answers and solutions.
With the Moon in Libra today, we are seeking more harmony and balance in our lives. But recognize to create more equity means we have to identify what is out of balance and sometimes make difficult choices. As an assertive cardinal sign, Libra?s version of justice isn?t all sweetness and light. But it doesn?t have to be painful either.
Daily Muse: Success is stumbling from failure to failure with no loss of enthusiasm? Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. (Winston S. Churchill ? Sun and Venus in Sagittarius)
SATURDAY
November 23
Moon in Libra/Scorpio
Moon goes Void of Course at 6:49pm enters Scorpio at 9"5i8pm
We wake up with an urge to stand our ground on Saturday making for some tense moments in early morning. The Libra Moon is naturally oriented toward relationships and she is also interested in fairness and justice. If you doubt me, try getting out-of-line with a partner or family member; you can definitely expect some push back with the Moon squaring powerful Pluto. Don?t play games with people. If you want to get a point across or ask for a change in a relationship, don?t fool around. Tell it like it is.
We have resolved most of our differences by evening when the Moon finds alignment with both Venus and Jupiter. There is a desire to expand our horizons and taste something new. This energy favors first dates and new experiences for existing partners. Make date night an adventure and it is sure to please. Venus is steadily moving towards Jupiter with touchdown tomorrow morning. On the love scene we may be feeling very lucky and blessed being in the right place at the right time. It might be kismet for the right soulmates. It could be lucky too for an unexpected windfall, financial or other. The Moon?s move to Scorpio late night could mean a sexy, passionate and intimate ending to a sweet evening.
Daily Muse: Never allow someone to be your priority while allowing yourself to be their option. (Mark Twain ? Sun, Venus and Mars in Sagittarius; Mercury in Scorpio)
SUNDAY
November 24
Moon in Scorpio
Early morning dreams are sweet and maybe sexy with Venus joining Jupiter in Sagittarius early this morning. It gets our day off to a hopeful start. But this feeling of bliss will have some competition as Mars in Scorpio opposes Uranus in Taurus. Trying to accommodate the needs and wishes of others may be in stark contrast of pursuing our own happiness. The word ?eclectic? is what pops into my head. We may want to be single-minded but the day demands we be more diverse and incorporate the ideas, plans and desires of others. It may not be an easy task, but surely not impossible.
If you find yourself in a dilemma or conundrum about how to assemble all the contrasting and dissimilar pieces of the puzzle, I?d suggest you at least entertain a solution other than what you usually do. The Moon in Scorpio is at the very end of its cycle (New Moon on Tuesday) and old ways of doing things may be on their way out. This energy is resourceful; if you go with the assumption there is a way to fit the pieces together, you will. The picture will look very different than you would have guessed when you first awoke this morning; but it will be something that is workable and maybe even delights.
Daily Muse: Just let go. Let go of how you thought your life should be, and embrace the life that is trying to work its way into your consciousness. (Caroline Myss ? Sun and Mercury in Sagittarius)
