Monday August 30 thru Sunday Sept. 6

Astrological Highlights for the week: Mars opposes Neptune on Thursday; Mercury gets serious with Saturn on Saturday; and Venus begins a transformation with Pluto on Sunday.

This is the last week of the Lunar cycle. The next New Moon is in Virgo on Monday September 6th. Before we close this chapter, it’s important we do not race through the final steps of evaluation of where we have been and tie up any loose ends. I know some would rather sleep through the last week of the lunar cycle. And why not? If you are particularly emotional or sensitive, this week of decreasing light can seem slow, confusing, or depressing. But there are benefits in store for those who choose to stay awake.

While no planets change signs this week, we do have several intriguing planetary interactions to spark our interest. On Thursday, Mars the planet of action opposes Neptune, the planet of dreams, illusions, and transcendence. On a practical and mundane level, this is daunting. Maybe a little bit like driving a car in a torrential rainstorm. Mars in Virgo is pragmatic, prepared, and has an agenda. Fog and rain are not part of our plan! No doubt about it, this opposition can start derailing our agenda even a few days before it happens on Thursday.

The Mars opposition to Neptune can also bring about beneficial revelations especially regarding hanging onto past habits, routines, relationships, and expectations. The spiritual note in Neptune resonates with a song in our hearts about our purpose and passions. If we are having a hard time letting go of a stagnant situation in our lives, this opposition helps us envision possible exit strategies. We can imagine moving forward and a future where we feel more content and alive, in alignment with our deepest desires, talents, and strengths. Don’t be quick to judge this week’s confusion or delays as problems. They may be signposts to a new direction and a warning the current path is a dead end.

On Saturday the fog clears considerably as the crisp wind of Mercury in Libra aligning with Saturn in Aquarius sweeps through the cosmos. Our thinking and communications are patient, precise, practical, and purposeful. This is great energy for all types of communication - personal and professional. We are responsible and come prepared! If you are aspiring toward a specific goal, this is a good day and evening, to think about, write about, or talk through your options, to narrow your focus to the most appealing. This provides a clarity of mind unlike what we have been experiencing recently. Writer Michael Crichton, actor/director Charlie Chaplin, famed songwriter, musician, and performer, George Harrison, and singer / actor Julie Andrews all were born with Mercury in a productive trine to Saturn. Their thoughts, words, and voices have all left an indelible mark. This wasn’t an accident.

On Sunday, Venus in Libra squares Pluto in Capricorn. Are we looking for trouble? Provoking power struggles? Or simply being triggered? There is a compulsiveness to Venus squaring Pluto that resonates with every obsessive bone in our body. Why can’t I have what I want? Like many challenging planetary interactions, this doesn’t have to spell doom and gloom. But it does suggest we may need to reign ourselves in a bit. The more we are aware of our issues and hot buttons, the more we can control our responses. If relationship issues are triggered, this could prove to be a valuable lesson and teachable moment.

Pluto has the power to change, evolve, and transform everything it touches. We may not look forward to it confronting Venus but then again, what a valuable opportunity to work through some compulsive spending habits, out-of-control consumption, or redesign relationship roles and interactions. With Venus in the partnership sign of Libra, let’s focus on the power of cooperation, the value of companionship, and the comfort of contentment.

Until next week, let go and wear loose clothes.

August 30
Moon in Gemini

The Moon in Gemini is on its own today making no daytime connections to planets. Shortly after Midnight Luna squared the Sun in Virgo ushering in the 4th and final phase of the lunar cycle. This is a turning point as we experience the results of the seeds planted on the last New Moon (It was on the 8th in self-expressive Leo). Both Gemini and Virgo are ruled by the thinking planet Mercury which just entered the partnership sign of Libra yesterday. Today we may be struggling with trust issues – how much do I tell others? How much of myself do I reveal or share? Can others handle the real me?

We may be thinking a lot about how we use information and our communications. Do we censor our opinions around certain people? Maybe we keep secrets or believe others are not telling the whole truth. We might expect some heated discussions today and boisterous exclamations. These verbal demonstrations may stem from innocent seeming motivations but might also be attempts to manipulate and control others through the calculated use of words. Do we find ourselves editing facts “for your own good”? Can’t you hear Jack Nicholson raging “You can’t handle the truth!”

In late evening when the Moon partners with Venus in Libra, it is much easier to connect mind and heart. We may not be more objective about our ideas and opinions, but we likely are more sensitive to our audience, especially our loved ones.

Daily Muse: Wit ought to be a glorious treat, like caviar. Never spread it about like marmalade. (Noel Coward – Moon in Gemini conjunct Pluto)

TUESDAY
August 31
Moon in Gemini/Cancer
The Moon goes Void of Course At 1:48pm enters Cancer at 10:26pm

An irritable connection between the Sun in Virgo and Saturn in Aquarius gets the day off to a cranky start. As the planet of discipline and responsibility, Saturn pushes us along the continuum of dependent to self-reliant and responsible. The temptation is to see ourselves as victims or blame others when our agenda is interrupted, or things don’t go our way. The Sun in Virgo can be flexible, but it definitely has an ideal picture of how everything should unfold. The best-laid plans can go awry for reasons beyond our control.

Things get even more complicated by the Moon in mental Gemini squaring Mars in pragmatic Virgo and imaginative Neptune in its home sign of Pisces. We likely feel a disconnection between our heads and hearts or may feel like we lack a sense of direction. It’s hard to set priorities as everything seems to be urgent and demanding our immediate attention.

As Mars continues to move towards its destined opposition with Neptune on Thursday, we might expect some confusion especially when it comes to identifying priorities. Keeping our schedules and expectations fluid will help us adapt to changes and demands as they evolve. We may be able to put off the last-minute request from a co-worker or the invitation to lunch with friends; but the leaking pipe flooding the kitchen will not be amenable to our rational explanations of how busy we are. These are times real friends and devoted partners are revealed! Even when we disagree with friends and loved ones about what’s important or how to deal with things, discussions can still help highlight answers to some of our toughest questions and illuminate our next steps. Never stop listening.

Putting all the details in perspective comes easier this afternoon when the Moon aligns with Jupiter in Aquarius. Jupiter is the big picture guy with hope and optimism to spare. As we consider long-term goals and the weighty priorities in our lives, the petty annoyances are revealed as minor inconveniences rather than significant problems.

Late tonight we seek the comfort of home and family as the Moon eagerly glides into her home sign of Cancer. “There is no place like home.”

Daily Muse: We all carry within us places of exile, our crimes, our ravages. Our task is not to unleash them on the world; it is to transform them in ourselves and others… Where there is no hope, it is incumbent on us to invent it. (Albert Camus Sun in Scorpio inconjunct Saturn in Gemini)

WENSDAY
September 1
Moon in Cancer

We are in the mood for some pampering today, and we don’t mind if we are doing it for ourselves. The Moon in nurturing Cancer is more sensitive than most and even though this cardinal sign is anything but delicate, we may be feeling emotionally or psychologically fragile. Our dampened mood could be related to something personal going on in our lives, but it’s also probable we are resonating with a deeper and more pervasive disappointment or loss that is echoing throughout our family, community, country, and world.

An early morning lunar conflict with Mercury in Libra might incite an argument or disagreement or indicate a message or piece of information may not be real or trustworthy. What a surprise!

Although this latter connection is quick moving, we might want to heed the warning and be cautious of taking seriously what we hear or read this morning. Get corroborating evidence before you repost or retweet! Our temptation this morning is to escape, but we might try supporting ourselves with gentleness. Indulge in your favorite breakfast and/or rearrange your schedule to include an hour or two for yourself this morning. You might want to meditate, exercise, or relax with a book or music. If you are feeling a little off today, you can be assured others are too. Think kindness.

Throughout the day we begin feeling more purposeful as the Moon moves toward a positive alliance with the Sun in Virgo this evening. All is not perfect, but things are feeling more in sync and our mood is brightened by ways we may have reached out to others today – especially those who are feeling lost or lonely.

Daily Muse: I've been a married man most of my life; that's the way I like it…My family is my sanctuary. (Pierce Brosnan – Moon in Cancer)

THURSDAY
September 2
Moon in Cancer
The Moon goes Void of Course At 10:37pm

It may be very challenging to maintain a steady and productive pace today. Mars, the planet of action is caught up in the confusing web of imagination of Neptune in Pisces. Mars in Virgo is practical and determined, but like a car driving in a torrential rainstorm, we feel like we have little control over the elements. Sometimes the opposition of Mars to Neptune highlights the discrepancies between our personal goals and those of family, group, or world. It’s hard to put our own desires and needs ahead of others especially if we deceive ourselves into thinking individual goals are selfish or less important. We have a harder time today, making the distinction without going to one extreme or the other. “I am everything; I am nothing.”

We may not want to make commitments today that carry considerable future responsibilities. We are sensitive and impressionable and may not be thinking straight. Did I really agree to adopt all three puppies or take on that ambitious project by myself?

The Mars opposition to Neptune can also bring about beneficial revelations especially regarding hanging onto past habits, routines, relationships, and expectations. The spiritual note in Neptune resonates with a song in our hearts about our purpose and passions. If we are having a hard time letting go of a stagnant situation in our lives, this opposition helps us envision possible exit strategies. We can imagine moving forward and a future where we feel more content and alive, in alignment with our deepest desires, talents, and strengths. Don’t be quick to judge today’s confusion or delays as problems. They may be signposts to a new direction and a warning the current path is a dead end.

When the Moon in sensitive Cancer squares Venus in Libra this afternoon, we might expect a clash of some sort with family or loved ones. Possibly they are upset at the mere mention we are thinking of changing directions! This evening feels better as the Moon makes positive alignments with both Neptune and Mars. We see how new ideas or behaviors can come into manifestation. Late night doubts may return when the Moon opposes Pluto. However, these are probably quickly followed by a sense of conviction as we embrace a need for change somewhere in our lives.

Daily Muse: Failure is a reality; we all fail at times, and it's painful when we do. But it's better to fail while striving for something wonderful, challenging, adventurous, and uncertain than to say, " I don't want to try because I may not succeed completely.” (Jimmy Carter – Mars in Aquarius opposite Neptune and Venus in Leo)

FRIDAY
September 3
Moon in Cancer/Leo
The Void of Course Moon enters Leo at 8:58am

The Moon slips out of sensitive Cancer and into noble Leo early this morning. This close to the end of the Lunar cycle (New Moon on Monday, September 6th) the Leo Moon is aligned with its desire to be a leader, versus the more playful side we might see earlier in the cycle. We take our self-expression seriously. We consider ways we want to influence others with our ideas and words. As a natural performer, the Leo Moon can be very persuasive and convincing. Over the next couple of days we are interested in inspiring positive change in ourselves and in those around us. If this sounds like you, check your ego at the door. We can advise, encourage, and shape opinions when we come from a place free of resentment and manipulation. The more we can be transparent with our motivations, the more we will be heard.

Being objective about ourselves is a challenge under any conditions. Today it seems even harder with the Sun making an uncomfortable connection to Chiron and Venus feeling confused by a link to Neptune. It may be hard to separate what we really want to be true from what is credible. We may idealize someone without being able to see their true nature or our relationship with them clearly. We are in danger if we let our fears start doing the talking. Talk back!

The energy is in flux today and rather than letting ourselves be bounced around with every changing story or event we can survive and prosper by soaking up inspiration from the Leo Moon. Honor yourself and your experiences; value your wisdom; know your voice is sacred. This evening, the Moon makes a positive alliance with Mercury, the messenger and storyteller in Libra. Take control of your story! Late night the Moon opposes Saturn which is our ego check – don’t get too big for your britches or believe your story is any more special than others’.

Daily Muse: Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony… Each one has to find his peace from within. And peace to be real must be unaffected by outside circumstances. (Mahatma Gandhi Moon in Leo; Venus and Mars conjunct in Scorpio inconjunct Neptune in Aries)

SATURDAY
September 4
Moon in Leo

Generally, we are in better spirits today under the influence of the Leo Moon Our minds and hearts may be turning toward the future, trying to imagine what we want to manifest. Recent events may have created confusion and doubt about our path or goals, but this isn’t a negative thing. This is a good day to re-think what makes us feel the happy and content. Venus in Libra reminds us about the importance of companionship and the value of cooperation. Are we allowing ourselves to enjoy interactions with others? How might we improve our relationships and satisfaction with our roles? The Leo Moon reminds us to aspire to greater self-confidence through a strong connection to our inner guide and teacher. Having a spiritual discipline is an anchor and steadying force amidst multiple changes.

Tonight, Mercury in Libra is fortified by an alliance with Saturn in Aquarius. Our thinking and communications are patient, precise, practical, and purposeful. This is great energy for all types of communication personal and professional. We are responsible and come prepared! If you are aspiring toward a specific goal, this is a good evening, to think about, write about or talk through your options to narrow your focus to the most appealing. This provides clarity of mind we haven’t experienced this week and certainly not in the last couple of days.

Daily Muse: Do you know what we call opinion in the absence of evidence? We call it prejudice. (Michael Crichton – Mercury in Libra trine Saturn in Gemini)

SUNDAY
September 5
Moon in Leo/Virgo
The Moon goes Void of Course at 7:22am enters Virgo at 4:06pm

The Moon in Leo is looking for personal satisfaction early this morning. We feel like we deserve something special. Our yearnings might include some quality time with a loved one, or we might wake up with an urge to indulge in a purchase of something we have been keeping an eye on. Moderation is not on the menu as the Moon opposes giant Jupiter this morning, but an irritating square between Venus and Pluto tonight could have us regretting going overboard earlier in the day. Heads up!

There is a compulsiveness to Venus squaring Pluto that resonates with every obsessive bone in our body. Why can’t I have what I want? Like many challenging planetary interactions, this doesn’t have to spell doom and gloom. But it does suggest we may need to reign ourselves in a bit. It doesn’t take much provocation to stir up trouble or power struggles. The more we are aware of our issues and hot buttons, the more we can control our responses. If relationship issues are triggered, this could prove to be a valuable lesson and teachable moment.

The Moon’s move to humble Virgo in late afternoon could completely spin the energy in a different direction. We don’t have much of an appetite for competition, fighting, arguing, or testing relationship boundaries. This Moon is about mindfulness and knows how to slow and ground the energy with silence. We prefer to spend time alone, or quality time with others of like mind. Participating in spiritual disciplines or spending quiet time together is a healing antidote to the recent frenzy.

Daily Muse: Remember, most of the things you think you need are ego trips designed to bolster your image and your perception of security....You'll waste a lot of energy satisfying your ego only to find that, as soon as it's got what it wants, it ignores all your efforts and promptly nails another list of demands to your forehead. The ego will always try to force you to slave for its vision. I wouldn't stand for that BS if I were you. (Stuart Wilde – Moon in Virgo)

Monday September 6 thru Sunday September 12

Astrological Highlights for the week: New Moon in Virgo on Monday; and Venus enters sexy Scorpio on Friday.

Ordinarily, I don’t devote this much energy and space to a New Moon. Monday Night’s New Moon in analytical Virgo piqued my interest. Like a kitten with a ball of yarn, I started pulling threads to see where they might lead. This is the result. It’s a lot of technical astrology so if that is not your interest, please feel free to jump ahead to the dailies. If you enjoy going down astrological alleyways and mazes, please read on!

The tried-and-true maxim about not judging a book by its cover should be splashed across the Monday sky. There are many planetary connections which highly influence the nature of this new lunar cycle. You’re not going to get an accurate read on this month or cycle by googling “New Moon in Virgo”, not unless the write-up considers at least some of these influencing factors.

First, let’s look at the traditional wisdom around the New Moon in Virgo. Lunar cycles under the influence of Virgo are characterized by a greater emotional need for privacy and aloneness. The mythological Virgo archetype is a goddess who often prefers her own company and uses solitude to focus on details and projects of importance to her. She also believes in duty and service. Her idealism is not for herself alone. We learn lessons about the differences between being alone and being lonely. We find peace in stillness and contentment in routine and methodical work and activities. We sign up for classes, teach ourselves a new skill, make lists, look at our nutrition and exercise habits, and set new goals for ourselves. We volunteer for Meals on Wheels or other humanitarian and philanthropic causes; we don’t expect glory or reward.

Now, let’s look at some of those extenuating circumstances that will color this month and this cycle. Mercury the messenger and communication planet is the ruler of Virgo. Mercury is currently in the relationship-sign of Libra. So much for solitude and aloneness! If we take a deeper dive into the present condition of Mercury, we might also want to consider that Mercury is loosely in favorable trine positions to Jupiter and Saturn in forward-thinking Aquarius and just left a trine to the North Node of the Moon in open-minded Gemini. These energies in humanitarian Aquarius and social Gemini are more than a whisper into the ear of this New Moon in Virgo. This likely appeals to the side of Virgo (she is a mutable double sign) that knows it is important to be of service. This might even be enough to bring some people out of their shells to serve as teachers, mentors, and voices for the undeserved or altruistic and humane causes.

Before leaving the possible influence of Mercury as Virgo’s ruling planet, it’s important to also note Mercury is heading for a retrograde pattern beginning Monday the 27th. On the 6th, the day of the New Moon, Mercury enters the Shadow of the Retrograde. Whatever events, ideas, and discussions occur during the next three weeks, we will revisit them during the retrograde period. This should clue us into the idea maybe we shouldn’t take things at face value during this lunar cycle. We’ll take a second and even a third look before all is settled. Things will be re-evaluated, reworked, and revised.

If you are looking to finalize something like buying or selling a house or property or changing jobs don’t panic. During retrograde periods we often complete cycles that were started months or even years ago. It’s an opportunity to rectify a situation. Disappointed by your current job, or seriously considering a change of career? Retrograding planets (there are plenty of them now – Chiron, Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune, and Pluto, and soon Mercury) help us dive more deeply into our inner motivations, passions, and desires. Yes, things may appear to be painfully slow, but there is plenty going on underneath the surface.

It’s also not uncommon that people who buy a house on a Mercury retrograde will sell the property during a future retrograde period. The same goes for other decisions. It might be too, that the deal is sweeter than you thought, and things turn out better than you hoped! (During a transitional period in my life I agreed to rent the upstairs floor of a house for one month. Mars and Mercury were both retrograde. I loved it so much I ended up staying three years.)

Last, but certainly not least is Uranus’ influence on the New Moon. The New Moon occurs at 14 Virgo while Uranus the Great Awakener is at 14 Taurus. This is no small deal. Uranus will be in perfect trine to the Moon minutes after the lunation and in perfect alignment with the Sun less than an hour later. Despite Virgo’s penchant for making a plan and sticking to it, Uranus is likely to introduce surprises and unexpected turns and twists during this cycle.

In summary, this is what we might expect during this 29-day lunar cycle. Lessons around relationships and setting appropriate boundaries will certainly be in the mix. We might re-imagine our needs for privacy, and what it means to live with others, share space, and share the planet. A risk (Uranus and its sign Aquarius love it, Virgo not so much) might be worth taking as it could lead to adventure, a heart-opening experience, and a re-awakening of a passion. If we think of this as a grand opportunity for exploration, it’s more than ok to try, flirt, and dally with some new ideas, people, and experiences.

It might be beneficial to think of this time as being more about the journey and the process, rather than the destination. Bringing an idea into physical form takes time. The retrograding planets encourage us to do our inner homework and reflect before acting. This New Moon in Virgo says devise a plan but be flexible.

MONDAY
September 6
New Moon 15º Virgo 5:52pm
Labor Day

This is a super charged day starting with a powerful alignment between Mars in Virgo and Pluto in Capricorn (5:19 am PDT). With Pluto involved we have a sense of purpose in whatever is taking place. It may be a stretch to say “it was meant to be” but this planet of transformation goes to the heart of things quickly with no fancy explanations or distractions. There is energy and motivation driving us toward what may feel like an inevitable conclusion. Our day is off to an early and active start.

Also occurring early (6:05 am PDT) Venus in Libra makes a lovely and upbeat alliance with Jupiter in Aquarius. Although this is a very positive energy for intimate relationships, with Jupiter in Aquarius, the love, good will, and hopefulness spill over into many areas of our lives. Taken together these two early morning aspects conspire towards delightful moments for lovers and partners but isn’t limited to great sex, although that can certainly be a part!

The stage is set for aha moments this morning which could lead to pairings but likewise partings. If so, it’s likely both partners generally feel freed up by the decision. The Moon in Virgo is urging us toward privacy and quality time with others. If a relationship or commitment violates our sense of self, we may realize being alone is a much better alternative to forcing a fit with the wrong person or situation. This doesn’t mean there is not sadness or pain, but the overall feeling is one of being loyal and true to ourselves and in charge of our destiny.

Even if we don’t have a cathartic experience this morning, we may choose to spend a portion of our day alone, or certainly with people of like mind. Under the waning Moon in Virgo our tolerance for superficiality is at a low ebb. True enough. The Moon is in the final hours of its cycle, ready to be reborn this evening as it meets the Sun.

The New Moon in Virgo tonight ushers in a cycle that emphasizes both Virgo and Libra qualities. Mercury, Virgo’s ruling planet, is in Libra and enters the shadow of its upcoming retrograde today. Lessons around relationships and setting appropriate boundaries will certainly be in the mix. We might re-imagine our needs for privacy, and what it means to live with others, share space, and share the planet. There are unpredictable Uranian elements to this New Moon also (Uranus is perfectly trine the Moon and Sun). Expect some surprises and adventures that Virgo didn’t put on her list!

Later tonight Mars in Virgo makes an awkward connection to Jupiter in Aquarius. This echoes and reinforces themes of the new Lunar Cycle. Humanitarian goals may feel more urgent than personal agendas; and taking a risk may prove more attractive and appealing than sticking to a plan. We are open to allowing messages and themes to emerge.

Daily Muse: To improve is to change; to be perfect is to change often…Continuous effort - not strength or intelligence - is the key to unlocking our potential. (Winston S. Churchill – Sun in Sagittarius trine Uranus in Leo; Saturn in Aquarius opposes Uranus)

TUESDAY
September 7
Moon in Virgo/Libra
The Moon goes Void of Course At 12:24pm enters Libra at 8:20pm

If possible, devote your schedule this morning to pursuing greater mastery and excellence in your knowledge, skills, and abilities. This might include brushing up your knowledge or understanding of a topic, event, or situation, practicing a skill like playing a musical instrument or mastering your tennis serve, or bolstering your natural flexibility with a yoga session. The Moon in discriminating Virgo is leaning toward her private side and we’ll feel more grounded if we spend at least part of the morning working on self-improvement. Since the Moon opposes dreamy Neptune early this morning, we might consider doing some creative writing, practicing a spiritual discipline, or a psychic development exercise. If Neptune threads keep you in a sleepy or unfocused place, perhaps you could craft the perfect cup of pour-over coffee or tea. Virgo’s attention to detail is an ideal match for getting the proportions correct, the temperature perfect, and the timing right. There is a reason the Japanese refer to teatime as a ceremony.

Late morning, we are ready to roll with a lunar alignment with Pluto bolstered a bit later by the Moon’s conjunction with motivational Mars. This afternoon the Moon is void of course until late evening so if you want to extend your personal study or skill development time the cosmos favors these activities.

Mercury in Libra opposes Chiron in Aries today which could provoke feelings of guilt if we think we are being selfish by spending time on personal goals. Before jumping to this conclusion consider the bigger picture. There is a difference between demonstrating love through selflessness and going through the motions because we feel obligated or bullied.

Late evening, the Moon glides into the partnership sign of Libra. Our hearts are turned toward diplomacy and kindness, but our mindset is also one of fairness and balance. Equilibrium means keeping in mind our personal needs and priorities.

Daily Muse: If people knew how hard I had to work to gain my mastery, it would not seem so wonderful at all. (Michelangelo)

WENSDAY
September 8
Moon in Libra

We are feeling creative today with the Moon in artsy Libra aligning with Saturn in forward thinking Aquarius. This is a day for new ideas and feeling inspired by life. If something or someone seems to glow brighter than usual, you see sparkles, or perhaps you feel a lightbulb ignite over your head, you are in the presence of brilliance. Someone or something acts as a muse and calls us to a creative venture or awakening. It doesn’t have to be frivolous or in the realm of arts and crafts. It could be a novel way of approaching your work, organizing people, or designing a project, home space, or building. We bring the natural artistic talents of the Libra Moon to everything we do.

Tonight, when the Moon joins thinking Mercury in Libra it offers the possibility of heart-to-heart conversations. We might want to share ideas with others for creating more beauty, balance, and harmony in our relationships and in the world. Keep in mind, this Libra Moon can be idealistic and romantic to the point of being unreasonable. Although Libra can see both sides of an issue, tonight we are more likely to be the defender of what we believe to be the right side. This can cause conflict if we go overboard in our need to see things as black and white. We can even be unjust and unfair in our extreme desire to be right. We can attack something or someone we profess to love in a misguided effort of improvement.

Daily Muse: Daily Muse: I've always maintained that I see myself as a student. There's always something to learn and be challenged by and hopefully grow from…I want to always find new ways of reinventing myself. (Nicolas Cage – Moon in Libra trine Saturn in Aquarius; Sun in Capricorn trine both Uranus and Pluto in Virgo)

THURSDAY
September 9
Moon in Libra/Scorpio
The Moon goes Void of Course at 9:48pm enters Scorpio 11:05pm

Today may feel like we are in the grips of one of those iconic dilemmas. Do we see the cup as half full or half empty? It’s always our choice, you know. The Moon in Libra wakes up with a sword in hand ready to charge into the world to right some wrongs. No matter how noble we believe our intentions to be, our efforts are likely thwarted with the Moon forming a contentious square to Pluto in Capricorn this afternoon. We may be pushing for a showdown or cathartic confrontation, but others are not cooperative. Or worse, maybe they are! We risk losing our peace of mind and emotional stability by being demanding and controlling or simply unaware of our intentions and motivations. If we are feeling scared, confused, lonely or unloved, whacking someone else with criticism or judgment is probably not going to make our personal attitude or situation any better. The sword of judgment is a heavy burden to carry around.

Later when the Moon aligns with Jupiter in Aquarius emotions may escalate and become even more united with a sense of needing to push a radical agenda to turn a situation to something we like better. Or maybe, we are lucky enough to meet up with some true friends who help us moderate our strong feelings by seeing them in context of the past and future. If we get caught up in focusing on what’s wrong, we have little vision left for imagining the possible.

Tonight, when the Moon joins Venus in Libra our concern or distress is likely to fade away as we feel nurtured and supported. This feeling might be engendered by spending time with friends and loved ones, or possibly by purposefully looking at what we love and cherish. A Course In Miracles and other spiritual disciplines emphasize our choice is always between judgment or vision – criticizing and making ourselves and others wrong, or using a loving and forgiving lens to view our circumstances. We can choose between Shared or Separate interests. Which makes you feel better? Is the glass half full or half empty?

Late night, early morning for many, the Moon dives into introspective Scorpio. We may continue to identify with our discontent, but likewise we can look more deeply and acutely at its origins.

Daily Muse: I don't know what is better than the work that is given to the actor-to teach the human heart the knowledge of itself. (Laurence Olivier Moon in Virgo square Pluto in Gemini and opposing Saturn in Pisces)

FRIDAY
September 10
Moon in Scorpio
Venus enters Scorpio 1:39pm

The Moon in Scorpio is probing for answers today. We are better off looking for them ourselves or within our own psyches than expecting an external source to offer up information. Mid-day the Moon squares Saturn in Aquarius and the emotionally sensitive or needy end up feeling overlooked and unfulfilled. We can avoid disappointment by steering clear of expectations of support and attention from those who are unable to give it. This could be a chronic situation, or a temporary one in which a friend or loved one is preoccupied with their own problems or worries or overwhelmed with responsibilities. Our inner fragility may not be at the top of their list today. Especially don’t expect bosses, teachers, or authority figures to go out of their way to meet your needs.

Instead of looking to others for approval or support, find it within yourself. Take control of your day and schedule and organize your efforts in alignment with what you want to accomplish. Know your priorities. Working independently is a good idea. This applies not only to entrepreneurs and those in business for themselves. To the extent possible, schedule activities today that benefit from your independent efforts. If you are part of a team, know your part of the process and take care of it regardless of what others are doing. Don’t wait for direction from a boss or co-worker if you know what needs to be done and have the knowledge, skills, and abilities to tackle it.

Mercury the planet of thinking and communication is in an awkward relationship to Uranus today. Surprise are probably not welcome, and unusual ideas or methods may be rejected. Communications could be difficult or go awry. This is not the time to introduce a novel way of doing something. The advice above about working independently does not give us permission to make changes that are not under our control or authority.

Venus the planet of values, love, romance, partnership, and finances leaves Libra and enters Scorpio this afternoon. This is another reason not to be operating under the radar or making shading decisions that have consequences for other people. Between the Moon and Venus in detective Scorpio, we may not get caught today, but the truth will come out.

Venus in Scorpio values emotional intensity and cathartic psychological revelations. There is nothing superficial about the way Venus in Scorpio approaches life, love, creativity, and relationships. Ruled by transformational Pluto, Scorpio romances and partnerships usually have an element of power, if not overtly, then lurking just below the surface. It could be an alignment of two powerful and/or independent people, or possibly a relationship characterized by one power broker at the top, or maybe appropriately at the bottom. (The strength of a structure is limited by the nature of its foundation.) You probably have experienced a couple where one partner is extroverted, vocal, and seemingly in control, only to find out the more introverted, mysterious, or quiet partner is secretly holding the reins and directing the course.

While Venus is in Scorpio, we desire more control and independence in our relationships even while we are seeking a greater level of involvement and commitment. Although Libra is the sign of balance, as we tag along with Venus in Scorpio, we may find we are creating more balance and equanimity in relationships by taking personal responsibility and growing our self-confidence.

Tonight, when the Scorpio Moon opposes Uranus, we become emotional rebels resisting authority and the restraints suggested by others. Emotional tantrums are possible but short-lived. The upside is intuition is high and new ideas may turn out to be pretty good, once we recover from the initial shock.

Daily Muse: Who is more humble? The scientist who looks at the universe with an open mind and accepts whatever the universe has to teach us, or somebody who says everything in this book must be considered the literal truth and never mind the fallibility of all the human beings involved?...For me, it is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring… I don't want to believe. I want to know. (Carl Sagan – Venus in Scorpio along with the Sun, Mercury and Jupiter)

SATURDAY
September 11
Moon in Scorpio
The Moon goes Void of Course At 10:33pm

Under the influence of a Scorpio Moon, we may feel like playing the hermit today or at least spend some time to sort through our feelings and our thoughts. The Sun in Virgo aligning with the Moon may echo this sentiment, giving us permission to take some personal time this morning. By mid-day we are feeling more philosophical with Luna’s positive connection to empathetic and compassionate Neptune in Pisces.

On a day when many will be personally or collectively involved in remembrances of the events of 9/11/2001 we do well to honor the memories and feelings while also revising our view incorporating 20 years of information and experiences. The Moon’s square to Jupiter may create resistance this afternoon, while a lunar alignment with Pluto reminds us of the transformative and healing power of forgiveness.

Late night we remain emotionally energized as the Moon makes a supportive connection to Mars in Virgo. With Mars at the end of its transit through this conscientious sign – it enters Libra next week on September 14 – we may be feeling a need to jot down some ideas in a journal, strategize with an idea, consider our options, or plan our next steps. Don’t rush off to bed if there is something on your mind. If there is an action you are considering, tuck it into your thoughts and let your subconscious mind offer a suggestion through your dreams.

Daily Muse: I am where I am because I believe in all possibilities. (Whoopi Goldberg – Moon in Scorpio along with the Sun, Mercury, and Saturn)

SUNDAY
September 12
Moon in Scorpio/Sagittarius

The Void of Course enters Sagittarius at 1:34am
With the Moon flying into optimistic Sagittarius in the very early morning hours today, we are ready for sunlight and adventures. We are more about the possibilities than action today with the Moon making only one planetary connection this afternoon. That’s ok with us, we probably don’t mind drifting along in our own personal hot air balloon taking in the scenery.

In mid-afternoon Luna’s connection to Saturn in Aquarius sparks at least a small interest in productivity, but I suspect it will turn us more in the direction of socializing with friends than in tackling any real work. Discussing our ideas and dreams seems more entertaining than taking action, and besides, we could all use a break!

Tonight, when the Moon makes a positive connection with Chiron in Aries, we think about how we have allowed self-doubt to plague our dreams. We may not be ready to completely give these thoughts a boot, but we are seriously considering it, which is an important first step. What is the payoff for self-criticism and judgment? This “precious” cargo is a burden indeed.

Daily Muse: I have to stop this cascade of memories, or at least take them out of their drawer only for a moment, have a brief look, and put them back. I know how to do it now: I have to take the key to acting and apply it to my life. There is no other way to survive except to be in the moment. Just as my accident and its aftermath caused me to redefine what a hero is, I've had to take a hard look at what it means to live as fully as possible in the present. How do you survive in the moment when it's bleak and painful and the past seems so seductive?... Once you choose hope, anything's possible. (Christopher Reeve – Moon in Sagittarius conjunct Mars)

Astrological Highlights for the week: The Sun opposes Neptune on Tuesday and Mars enters Libra; on Thursday, the Sun gets crystal clear with a trine to Pluto and Venus revises a commitment responding to a square with Saturn

The headline this week is Mars leaving conscientious and dutiful Virgo for the partnership sign of Libra. Refresher on Mars: associated with the Roman god of war and considered to be the guardian of Agriculture. Mars rules the sign Aries and the first house of the astrological chart. Mars resonates with our ability to act on personal desire. This is inspiration, motivation, and why and how we go after what we want. Mars is extroverted Yang energy translating the Sun’s (personal ego) vitality, strength, physical energy and stamina, and desire. He’s closely associated with how we assert ourselves, relate to others, and how we express and use sexual energy.

Since Mars rules Aries – the opposite sign to Libra – we need to consider how to recalibrate our style and expectations for achievement, success, and even satisfaction on a scale that includes other people and our relationship with them. Standing alone at the top of the mountain may feel lonely. We sincerely desire and value shared experiences and being part of a couple, team, family, and community. Build relationships, not autonomy.

While Mars is in Libra we are concerned with fairness, equality, diplomacy, harmony, beauty, and justice. We may have difficulty asserting ourselves or receive negative feedback when we are aggressive or acting selfishly. Although diplomatic Libra is polite and willing to see both sides of an issue, this sign deplores vulgar, gauche, and tyrannical behavior. Be a bully and you may witness the assertive and initiating cardinal qualities of this sign wielding the sword of justice.

Mars in Libra wants to unite not oppose. Competition, which is fuel to Aries, is usually avoided by Libra. About the only place we may feel competitive during this time is the area of relationships. We are actively seeking loving and stable partnerships. Aligning with others in intimate relationships or for social, educational, entertainment, humanitarian, or other reasons is important. Communication is prioritized as are social gatherings and events. It’s particularly hard to feel quarantined, separated and alone when Mars is in this sign of togetherness.

We may also be reinspired regarding areas of creativity and the arts. If music, dance, painting, theatre, creative writing, and similar outlets have been put to the side, or all but forgotten, we find a new enthusiasm. Beauty and harmony seem just as important and life affirming as functionality. Artistry is for everyone and touches many aspects of life. Anyone can get dressed in the morning, it takes taste and grace to put together a spectacular and coordinated outfit! We want to move past the ordinary and the blahs to fabulous and inspiring.

Here’s the bottom line. Despite the association of Mars with individuality and willfulness, our impulse to assert our personal preferences is tempered when Mars transits through Libra during the next six weeks. During this cycle It is easier to see the intersection of personal and group goals. And it’s more than “you scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours.” When we are loyal to each other supporting individual efforts, the relationship itself benefits and is strengthened. The act of joining together proves rewarding. Progress along many tracks can be attained as we work in tandem. We act in accord with the milieu and the milieu responds in supporting us and endorsing our goals.

Far from abandoning our personal goals, we can expect support from our loved ones. Even more so if we are willing to prioritize objectives and activities that benefit others, loved ones and strangers. This is not a time for competition, rivalry, or jealousy. There is power in unity and the whole being greater than the sum of its individual parts.

Those who can find the time, energy, and resources to understand and support others will reap positive rewards as the couple or group advances. OUR victories, achievements, and celebrations become an integral part of individual success and happiness. In some cases, they may even be steppingstones to the ultimate achievement of personal ideas or goals. Build relationships not autonomy and watch the magic of synchronicity unfold.

Until next week, let go and wear loose clothes.

MONDAY
September 13
Moon in Sagittarius

The Sagittarius Moon is a Gypsy and a wanderer, carefree and curious, but nevertheless directed by an underlying urge to seek truth through adventure and experience. This morning as the Moon connects with Mercury in Libra, we are looking for answers in our relationships and interactions with others. People are talkative, and more straightforward than may be comfortable. The problem with looking for the truth is we may find it! Are we really open to hearing what someone else is thinking and has to say?

Mid-afternoon Luna moves into the second phase of her cycle marked by a conflicting square with the Sun in Virgo, spinning us in a new direction. Our path this afternoon requires our ability to navigate between our rational and intuitive minds. The Moon in fiery Sagittarius might feel confused or somewhat thwarted by a square to Neptune in its home sign of imaginative Pisces.

Neptune spreads its veil of illusion and dreams over the entire day, and tomorrow too with the Sun in Virgo coming into an exact opposition with Neptune in the early morning hours of Tuesday (2:21 Pacific Time). An important aspect, it builds throughout the day and takes at least another day to dissipate. The Sun represents our ego and sense of being an individual self. Neptune is a reminder we are more than physical matter and can access higher realms including imagination and spirituality.

The less desirable side of this connection is feeling confused, ungrounded, overly sensitive, fragile, and possibly fearful. Like a psychic sponge we soak up the vibrations of the environment and the feelings of the people we are around. Note to self – be proactive about where you are and how you spend your time! Avoid, or at least be very cautious, in the use of drugs and alcohol. We are more sensitive to their influences. Likewise recognize we are more vulnerable to the voices and messages around us. Are they critical and disparaging or inspiring and hopeful?

The positive way to use this energy is to welcome intuition, imagination, and spiritual insight. Connect with a higher power and assume you will be guided into the experiences and interactions that will be helpful for you today. When the Sun connects to Neptune, we are empathetic, compassionate, and forgiving. We are romantic and creative. We feel like we are on a boat or surfboard, rather than walking on the earth. Perhaps we feel like we are drifting through fog or clouds or dreaming and unsure of our direction. Adjust your expectations and you will sail through this energy. Just because we are lost or confused doesn’t mean we are not in the perfect place to make an important connection or learn something useful.

Tonight, we are also under the influence of a positive lunar link to Jupiter in Aquarius. Feeling connected to a larger sense of community feels supportive rather than intimidating.

Daily Muse: Swimming is normal for me. I'm relaxed. I'm comfortable, and I know my surroundings. It's my home…You can't put a limit on anything. The more you dream, the farther you get. (Michael Phelps – Sun in Cancer opposite Neptune in Capricorn; Moon in Sagittarius sextile Jupiter in Aquarius – he has used his celebrity as an Olympic Swimmer to promote awareness and education around depression and mental health.)

TUESDAY
September 14
Moon in Sagittarius/Capricorn
Mars enters Libra 5:14pm
Moon goes Void of Course at 3:57 am, enters Capricorn at 4:34am

The Sun’s opposition to Neptune is at its peak in the early morning hours. It may have been more influential yesterday than today, but we are still under its influence. (Please read the daily write-up for Monday.) Our focus clears as the Moon leaves care-free Sagittarius and moves into hardworking and goal-oriented Capricorn before dawn. Although we may be working solo this morning or attending to individual or personal goals, our vision is turned to different ideas this afternoon when the Moon connects with Venus. We are tuned into the desires of a partner (business or intimate) and/or those of family, the workplace, or the community.

This recalibration toward the needs and goals of a partnership, family, or group is punctuated this evening, and for the next six weeks as Mars transits through the relationship sign of Libra. Despite the association of Mars with individuality and willfulness, our impulse to assert our personal preferences is tempered in Libra. It is easier to see the intersection of personal and group goals. And it’s more than “you scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours.” As partners are loyal to each other supporting individual efforts, the relationship itself benefits and is strengthened. The act of joining together proves rewarding. Progress along many tracks can be attained as we work in tandem. We act in accord with the milieu and the milieu responds in supporting us and endorsing our individual goals.

While Mars transits Libra we yearn for partnership. Social activities are important, and communication and networking are vital. We notice areas of our lives that feel drab or unbalanced and seek to add an artistic and creative flair. Balancing the scales and working toward harmony, equality, and justice in our own lives and in society becomes a priority. Relationships thrive as we make the effort to understand, accept, and embrace differences. It’s always our choice to see separation through the eyes of our egos or to choose vision by uniting with a higher power or inner guide.

Daily Muse: A dream you dream alone is only a dream. A dream you dream together is reality. (John Lennon – Mars in Libra)

WENSDAY
September 15
Moon in Capricorn
Moon goes Void of Course at 10:40pm

We are creative and original about the way we go about our work today with the Moon in diligent Capricorn getting inspiration from innovative Uranus in Taurus. Despite our efforts, we might feel a lack of respect this afternoon as the Moon squares Mercury in the partnership sign of Libra. There could be a choice in front of us – proceed with what we believe is the priority or make a change, heading down a slightly different path that promises a quicker reward or approval from someone we want to impress or please. It’s hard to proceed if we feel others are criticizing or judging us. We can dig deeper for self-esteem and decide if our present course is more important than the distraction or temptation in front of us.

No matter what we decide, Luna’s harmonizing connection to Neptune this evening suggests any disagreement or emotional discomfort will be quickly erased or at least forgotten. Better yet, forgiven. Late-night the Sun in Virgo aligning with the Moon helps us get back on track and feel grounded. If we are still thinking about an incident this afternoon, the Moon’s late-night meeting with Pluto will help us clear the dust and see more clearly how we feel about the situation. If we changed course because of external pressure, and regret the choice, we can return to our original plan tomorrow.

Daily Muse: Daily Muse: Appearances matter — and remember to smile. (Nelson Mandela – Mars in Libra)

THURSDAY
September 16
Moon in Capricorn/Aquarius
Void of Course Moon enters Aquarius at 8:23am

The Moon marches into Aquarius today, but instead of feeling friendly, we are leaning more towards the rebellious side of this sign. The Aquarian story is a complicated one that runs the gamut from brotherhood, social unity, and wanting to belong, to rejecting the status quo and rebelling against everything. Under its influence we might go through the day with a chip on our shoulder, feeling betrayed, maybe by our own beliefs or decisions. Work commitments or family responsibilities may be weighing heavy, and relationships seem fraught with strings attached.

A lunar trine to Mars in Libra eases the way and motivates us to put aside our grievances, at least long enough to be productive. However, a clumsy connection between the Sun in Virgo and Jupiter in Aquarius creates tension. Should we keep our eye on the details or pay more attention to the big picture? No right or satisfying answer is forthcoming.

This evening a clarifying trine between the Sun and Pluto in Capricorn helps the important features and issues emerge from the midst of the chaos. With the Moon squaring Venus in Scorpio, and joining Saturn in Aquarius, we may still feel somewhat less than enthusiastic about a relationship issue, family dynamics, or the performance of our financial portfolios, but generally we are feeling resourceful and more than able to handle whatever life throws at us.

When the Sun is in a strong positive aspect to Pluto (like tonight) we feel capable and responsible. No victims or crybabies here! Ok maybe a few tears late tonight, but this is likely related to Venus squaring Saturn. We might be feeling pessimistic about a relationship, investment, or some other area of our lives and looking for someone to reassure us. If we are lucky, maybe there is a partner who can talk us through the insecurity.

In the long run we need to be able to face these fears or downturns recognizing where we create or allow conflict or self-sabotage. The only real way to not be cast as the victim in the script of our lives is to turn down the role! We become victims not by what happens to us, but by how we respond. The question is, do you want to be the mover and shaker, or shaken?

Daily Muse: Criticism, even when you try to ignore it, can hurt. I have cried over many articles written about me, but I move on and I don't hold on to that… You can't just sit there and wait for people to give you that golden dream. You've got to get out there and make it happen for yourself… It takes a long time to get to be a diva. I mean, you gotta work at it. (Diana Ross – Sun in Aries trine Pluto in Leo)

FRIDAY
September 17
Moon in Aquarius

The Aquarian Moon is advising us to try a fresh approach this morning. Being sulky hasn’t worked, and open rebellion probably hasn’t won us any applause or friends. Maybe taking a lighter approach or using humor will melt some ice or at least get a smile from our intended audience. We might second guess telling the joke in the morning staff meeting with the Moon squaring Uranus. Maybe we went a bit too far? We want to provoke a reaction without alienating the crowd.

It’s easy to feel like an outsider under the influence of an Aquarian Moon. However, when we realize our feelings are likely shared by many others, we begin to see the common ground. If we are feeling left out, intuition should tell us, we are not the only ones.

Tonight, when Mercury makes an awkward connection to Neptune in Pisces, we still might be feeling like our words are missing the mark, or people just aren’t getting us. Don’t be too dismayed. We are under the shadow of the upcoming Mercury retrograde (starts on September 27). We will review, revise, and reconsider many conversations and ideas occurring this week. Likewise, if you are feeling confused, or unsure of the meaning of things this could be a very good sign. “Maybe there is a different way to look at this” is an idea that inspired the scribe of A Course In Miracles. When we admit to confusion, we can open to new guidance and possibilities presented through our intuition.

Late tonight we feel more hopeful and inspired as the Moon aligns with Mercury and we begin to see new patterns of possibility emerging.

Daily Muse: It’s ok to lose; just don’t lose the lesson…The secret is not to give up hope. It’s very hard not to because if you’re really doing something worthwhile, I think you will be pushed to the brink of hopelessness before you come through to the other side. (George Lucas – Moon in Aquarius square Mercury and Venus in Taurus and opposing Pluto and Jupiter in Leo)

SATURDAY
September 18
Moon in Aquarius/Pisces
The Moon goes Void of Course At 2:14am enters Pisces at 1:22 pm

The Aquarian Moon is energized and inspired by a connection to Jupiter this morning, but since this happens while many are still asleep (2:14 am PDT), it is our dreams that are infused with expansive and revolutionary symbols and ideas. If you are lucky enough to wake up with some interesting thoughts record them verbally or in writing to preserve them. The Moon is also void of course until mid-afternoon making this a lovely morning to think through some ideas and projects and develop a plan of action.

When the Moon slips into Pisces this afternoon, it is indeed probably a quiet transition. Closely aligned with dreams, illusions, spirit, and unseen worlds the Pisces Moon would love to spend today daydreaming, watching movies, reading poetry, listening to music, and exploring the various channels and voices of the universe. Indulging in creativity and anything that inspires us would be the perfect agenda. Forget grocery shopping, doing the laundry, finishing up that work project or cleaning the garage. About the only way these things will get accomplished is with a backdrop of imagination, and maybe a soundtrack of your favorite music.

Daily Muse: My purpose in performing is to communicate the joy I experience in living.. I don't want to just entertain people. I want to touch them. (John Denver – Moon in Pisces)

SUNDAY
September 19
Moon in Pisces

It’s another quiet day in the cosmos with no planetary interactions and the Moon interacting with two planets – both are positive. Unless totally out of the question, make this a day of rest, relaxation, and play time. Turn down the dial on your rational mind and give your imagination free reign. If you must work or be otherwise productive, schedule regular breaks. Take a moment or more to close your eyes, listen to a song, or look out a window and daydream. Spend time with a spiritual discipline, practice your intuition, or binge on the TV show or movie series you have on your wish list. If possible, spend time in or near water.

The day starts with the Pisces Moon making a trine to Venus in Scorpio. This is highly creative, sensual, and affectionate energy. We are in the mood to be sweet, tender, and appreciative. If you chafe or growl at the idea, better start the day by finishing this sentence, “Today I am thankful for…”.

Mid-afternoon when the Moon sextiles Uranus, we relish our freedom, even if it means a mere few hours on our own or having the liberty to do nothing. A period of solitude might be in order. Meditation, journaling, or taking a nap might be exactly what we want and need. Sometimes the break we are looking for is to invite an experience out of our usual routine. We are in the mood for something different or unusual to stimulate our hearts, minds, and bodies.

Daily Muse: I try to hop into a new personality as often as I can. (Peter Sellers – Moon in Taurus sextile Uranus in Pisces)

Astrological Highlights for the week:  Mercury begins a three-week Retrograde pattern on Monday that includes a square to Pluto on Friday and a trine to Jupiter on Sunday. Venus spins dreams with Neptune on Wednesday while the Sun is strengthened by Saturn discipline. Venus takes a step back while squaring Neptune on Thursday but feels fortified by her connection to Pluto on Saturday.

We may feel like we are being thrown into the deep end of the pool this week as Mercury begins a three-week retrograde pattern in Libra on Monday. A word of warning, no snoozing through this one. There are those who believe a Mercury retrograde means no selling, no buying, no signing, no traveling, no communicating, and all will be well. Just clear your agenda, maintain a low profile, and reschedule everything for the 18th of October or later and we’re good to go. If only life were that simple!

This might be a good time to discuss Confirmation Bias. Psychologists and sociologists and others use the term to describe the tendency to seek ideas and information that support what we already believe to be true. For the most part, we don’t even know we are doing it. It’s pretty much hard-wired into the DNA of humans, or at least into the way we think. We like when people agree with us. We feel validation when others share our opinions. We often feel less-than, diminished, or less worthy when we are in the minority, or criticized for the way we think or around something we have expressed.

In fairness, we must make some exceptions for people with Aries and Aquarius energy in their charts – they often thrive when being ahead of the group. They relish being the Lone Ranger and can turn being an outcast into a badge of honor. Being part of the group is so mediocre!

There is comfort (for many of us) in conformity and most of us have a low tolerance for Cognitive Dissonance (the state of having inconsistent thoughts, beliefs, or attitudes, especially as relating to decisions and attitude change.) Inconsistency creates tension and we don’t like it! I can think of multiple times when I was listening to something that is either so inconsistent with my thinking, awkward, or too far out of bounds to wrap my brain around it. (This was my experience the first time I tried to read a book by psychic Jane Roberts – my mind snapped like a rubber band stretched too far.) When this happens, my eyes glaze over and I can hear an internal voice say, “wait, does not compute! Recalculating!)

When faced with inconsistency or challenging information we have a choice. We can reject it out; find ways to explain it away, or dare I say it, objectively analyze it and reconsider our established beliefs that are conflicting with the new information. Both Cognitive Dissonance and especially CB can be problematic for a variety of reasons. It interferes with our ability to objectively understand, interpret, and recall information. If I believe planets moving retrograde are to be dreaded, it’s likely I will not recognize important and beneficial information and messages to the contrary.

Mercury Retrograde patterns are fertile settings for both Cognitive Dissonance and Confirmation Bias. Retrogrades are times when planets appear to be moving backwards but they aren’t. It’s an optical illusion. Do you want to base important decisions on an illusion? During retrograde patterns, the energy of the planet seems to turn inward rather than being expressed externally or in the material world. It’s a time to RETURN or review a previous point in time. New information is revealed or comes to light. Recent events and decisions are reviewed and reassessed. Some decisions may be overturned considering new information. Unfinished business is addressed. And who doesn’t like to get rid of unfished business?

We can find valuable purpose in retrograde patterns, especially when it’s Mercury, the planet of thinking and communication. It’s our opportunity to review and re-see ideas, thoughts, and events. But the value comes with awareness and intention – it’s not automatic. It’s not likely we can reverse an entrenched coping mechanism like confirmation bias, but maybe we can become more aware of it operating in our lives? Expect that intuition takes a more prominent role when Mercury the planet of logic and rational thinking moves retrograde.

I don’t usually get over the top excited about Mercury retrogrades, but this one has piqued my interest and I predict it will be an exciting period of opportunity. Because of Mercury retrograding in Libra, it will form beneficial, challenging, and eye-popping relationships with some powerful cosmic players. Mercury will engage favorably with Jupiter – three times; will get thrown curve balls by both Neptune in Pisces and Uranus in Taurus – three times each; and will reveal some profound truths by squaring Pluto – three times. These are gifts, even if some appear to be blessings disguised as challenging lessons.

Think of Mercury Retrograde as a time for Second Chances and breakthroughs. Not only is Mercury revisiting previous thoughts, ideas, and interpretations, but these powerful planetary connections are like cosmic steroids, pumping up the action and the possibility to see through some of our pre-conceived ideas and biases about how life works.

This is a time to strive for more excellence in our lives but especially in all things Libra – relationships, partnerships, creativity, balance, justice, fairness, and equity. It’s a time to balance the scales personally and maybe community and world levels too. At least we can see more clearly where the inequities are and some of the factors that need to be clarified or weighed differently. Despite what you may have heard, Mercury Retrograde is a time to sharpen our minds, correct our mistakes, and perfect our communications.

Until next week, let go and wear loose clothes.

MONDAY
September 27
Moon in Gemini
Moon goes Void of Course at 9:18pm

Very late last night, Mercury the messenger stationed retrograde. Translation: from our view on planet earth, it looks like Mercury is standing still. Today it officially looks over its shoulder and begins to move in a retrograde motion until October 18th (only metaphorically; planets don’t move backwards). Consider it an auspicious time for review, finding lost items, being able to expand your mind in new directions, and creating more satisfaction and happiness in your relationships. After all, Mercury is spending his extra time in Libra – the sign of cooperation, sharing, balance, diplomacy, creativity, charm, and relating.

The message for today is “no worries” about the retrograde or anything else. Worry is non-productive and won’t change outcomes. If you are prone to looking at the future with dread, seriously consider changing your focus. Really. One of the gifts of Mercury being retrograde for three weeks is the opportunity to hear the other side of the story, to see something from a different point of view and to benefit from a fresh perspective. Challenge ideas that feel scary and dare yourself to imagine new interpretations and design creative endings for current story lines.

The Moon is in Mercury-ruled Gemini today, a sign that loves to express and communicate. This Moon particularly likes to write and preserve ideas and stories that we find important and worthwhile. We might want to set a goal for today of becoming better communicators. Are we aware of our own biases and filters? How might we improve our ability to express information objectively, to be better speakers, or improve our writing abilities? On some level we all want to express ourselves and be heard. Gemini Moons are a great time to practice.

Don’t get discouraged if clarity seems somewhat elusive in early afternoon – the Moon is squaring Neptune, the planet of dreams and illusions. We may struggle to communicate clearly especially about ideas that are abstract and intangible. We have no problem describing the ingredients in our lunch salad, but we get tripped up if someone asks us what it means to have peace of mind or how to forgive. Although we may not be perfectly articulate, this is still a good time to explore spiritual or esoteric topics, perhaps reading the words of a great master, or someone we admire.

In late afternoon, we are bubbling over with words and ideas as the Moon makes a harmonizing connection to Jupiter. This is also a great energy for turning around a pessimistic mood as Jupiter in Aquarius is the definition of hope.

Tonight, we are in a mood to communicate and relate when the Moon aligns with Mercury. Satisfaction might come through an interaction with a person, or through a great book, listening to a wonderful podcast or watching an interesting story. Think about this. Can you identify one or two (maybe more) ideas or concepts you believe have shaped your life and are worth sharing? How do you or can you, preserve these ideas?

Daily Muse: I want to put a ding in the universe. (Steve Jobs – Mercury Retrograde in Aquarius)

TUESDAY
September 28
Moon in Gemini/Cancer
Void of Course enters Cancer at 6:34am

The Moon tries to quietly slip into her home sign of Cancer early this morning. We too might be thinking it would be great to take the day off or just hide out at home pampering ourselves. This could work, but chances are at least one task or responsibility will prove important enough to make us interact with the outside world. It’s likely not something we need to do for ourselves but involves a commitment to a family member or a loved one. This provides the motivation to put our game face on and get to work.

Tonight, the Cancer Moon squares the Libra Sun which signals the beginning of the fourth quarter of the lunar cycle. As we move into this final phase, we know it’s time for a reality check. When we consider our New Moon intentions on the 6th of September, it’s very possible the results are looking a bit lackluster. Just a hunch. Since Mercury moved into the shadow of the retrograde on the 6th we know the communications, feelings, and events of the last few weeks will require a review. If things haven’t turned out as planned, resist the urge to start again from scratch as the relationship or project may just need an adjustment versus hitting the cancel or delete button. What can be salvaged, what can be revised, what can be repurposed?
Daily Muse: You know, everybody has setbacks in their life, and everybody falls short of whatever goals they might set for themselves. That's part of living and coming to terms with who you are as a person…Every moment wasted looking back, keeps us from moving forward…In this world and the world of tomorrow, we must go forward together or not at all. (Hillary Clinton – Mercury Retrograde in Scorpio)

WENSDAY

Moon in Cancer

Wednesday has a very creative vibe thanks to a harmonizing connection between Venus in Scorpio and Neptune in Pisces. This imaginative energy can be applied to multiple and varied parts of our lives. It’s a positive influence for relationships helping us feel greater connections that reach much deeper than our physical being. Venus in Scorpio understands and in fact, craves the intensity of soul connections.

Healing on physical, emotional, and mental levels can be aided by using Scorpio vision that helps us see the truth. Combine this with Neptune in Pisces and we can trigger a cathartic change process to heal body and mind.

If you are thinking you may not be up for so much passion and concentration of energy, this alignment between Venus and Neptune can also generate some amazing imagination which can be channeled according to your desire. With the Cancer Moon connecting with Uranus this morning, creativity is flowing freely, and unusual ideas are getting noticed.

In mid-afternoon we are still going strong with the Libra Sun’s alignment with Saturn in Aquarius. We may feel like we are coming down from the morning high with plenty of inspiration and energy to accomplish a lot before the day is done. This is a hopeful connection that includes discipline we can align with our own aspirations. Rather than acting out of obligation we are driven by an internal desire to plan or move a project or relationship forward.

Daily Muse: You have to be unique, and different, and shine in your own way… I'm just trying to change the world, one sequin at a time. (Lady Gaga – Mercury Retrograde in Pisces)

Moon in Cancer/Leo
The Moon goes Void of Course at 7:49 am enters Leo 5:53 pm

We are under the influence of a very sensitive and highly impressionable Cancer Moon today. The first post-dawn aspect is the Moon’s opposition to Pluto. Any plans for a sweet and gentle awakening just went out the window. We maybe feel rushed with no time for our morning routines and nurturing practices. Maybe its an urgent phone call or request that interrupts and derails our plans with the Moon squaring Mercury in the relationship sign of Libra. Please withhold judgment. We may be annoyed that a loved one’s car problem means we must run out the door without our meditation and oatmeal, but we might find this disruption could have some positive side effects. And it’s not just the good will we create. We don’t feel so guilty indulging in a pastry at the drive-through coffee shop or being elated seeing the box of donuts in the breakroom in the workplace. We deserve a treat! Or perhaps we have a few extra minutes to walk through the city or park on our way to our next stop.

It’s probably best to come to terms with any irregularities in our day and not be a grievance collector. In late afternoon Venus in Scorpio squares Jupiter in Aquarius which is an invitation to be extravagant and overindulgent. If we get to this point feeling deprived, it’s more likely we will go overboard this evening with food or drink potentially sabotaging what could be a fun and relaxing time with the Moon in Leo. Our mood coming into this energy may determine whether we experience the good-natured and social Lion or the petulant child who demands attention.

Daily Muse: It's funny when people say, 'I don't think Julia likes me.' Honey, if I don't like you, you're going to know about it. (Julia Roberts – Mercury Retrograde in Scorpio and Moon in Leo)

FRIDAY
October 1
Moon in Leo

Put on your big girl or big boy pants, and better have your spiritual toolbox handy today. It’s potentially a rough ride. The Moon in Leo is not feeling the love. This usually sunny sign can turn dark and grouchy when we don’t get the attention or appreciation, we believe we deserve. Don’t hold your breath; it’s not likely to be coming from anywhere outside yourself today.

An early morning lunar opposition with Saturn sets the tone – we are not special or particularly entitled and other people’s needs and priorities may displace our own. We may (wrongly) believe there isn’t enough love to go around and today it’s not our turn. Despite how silly this may sound; this aspect is followed by Mercury’s second square to Pluto. This same energy was in effect on Wednesday September 22 with Mercury moving direct. Now the planet of thinking and communication is retrograde, and we are revisiting, and taking a second look at information revealed or events around that time. New information gives us a clearer picture, but the truth is probably not yet in focus. (We can expect greater resolution around Mercury’s third and final square with Pluto on November 2).

Mercury square Pluto is a pattern that occurs three times in alignment with Mercury’s retrograde. It takes us even deeper than usual exploring beyond superficial understanding to finding truths that are hidden or obscured by denial – personal and collective. Today we may be confronted with information we don’t want to hear or that could profoundly change our lives in the short or long-term. It is important we respond with open minds and hearts and not waste time in judging previous decisions or choices. Also, it is probably a waste of time to continue looking or probing for options when the obvious answer is staring us in the face.

Get through the morning with your self-esteem and peace of mind intact, and the rest of the day should be easier. The Sun in harmonizing Libra sends reassurance to the Leo Moon that we can turn things around and find more balance. When the Moon makes a friendly connection to Mars in Libra in mid-afternoon, we feel sure of our footing and may even be willing to take a risk or two. Relationships feel more supportive, and we are ready to forgive a loved one’s misdemeanor from this morning. We may feel a bit reticent but we’re not giving up hope!

Tonight, the Moon’s square to Uranus suggests surprises but a change in the mood is not necessarily a negative switch. Venus in Scorpio is heading towards a harmonizing connection with Pluto after midnight (technically Saturday morning). This can bring greater honesty to relationships and deeper connection with loved ones. This influence is in effect tonight even though it peaks tomorrow.

Daily Muse: If your joy is derived from what society thinks of you, you're always going to be disappointed- I laugh at myself. I don't take myself completely seriously. I think that's another quality that people have to hold on to... you have to laugh, especially at yourself. (Madonna – Mercury Retrograde in Virgo)

SATURDAY
October 2
Moon in Leo
The Moon goes Void of Course At 4:43pm

We are not completely out of the woods emotionally speaking or when it comes to relationships, but today is looking more positive. The Moon in Leo is taking things in stride and even finding ways to share wisdom based on recent lessons learned.

In the very early morning hours Venus in Scorpio makes a positive and conciliatory connection to Pluto in Capricorn. Although the energy is waning throughout the day, we can take advantage of this opportunity to strengthen bonds with loved ones and restore integrity to relationships that have been damaged by misunderstandings or worse. Venus in Scorpio is not one to easily overlook a slight or forgive unfaithfulness or transgressions, but it is the energy of healing. The influence of devoted Pluto in Capricorn may be strong enough to help us change our interpretation of a situation and renew a commitment to a true love.

Venus is the planet of values which includes resources and money. Her alignment with Pluto this morning might also bring clarity to decisions around spending and consumption that bring us into greater alignment with long-term goals. This is very possible with the Moon opposing Jupiter in Aquarius mid-day. We are more willing to balance immediate gratification with delayed satisfaction and also consider how our personal consumption is not separate from the resources of the collective community. I’m not saying we are happy about it, but at least we are considering shared interests and not just personal wants and needs.

Productive conversations are sparked this afternoon when the Moon aligns with Mercury. As Mercury is retrograding through Venus-ruled Libra, perhaps this is a good time to discuss meaningful ideas about relationships and money. Don’t be too dismayed if conversations don’t lead to total agreement. The Moon in Leo squares Venus in late afternoon so once again we might be feeling somewhat slighted if someone doesn’t agree with us or remember we “hung the moon.”

Daily Muse: When other little girls wanted to be ballet dancers, I kind of wanted to be a vampire…People say that you're going the wrong way when it's simply a way of your own. (Angelina Jolie – Mercury Retrograde in Gemini)

SUNDAY
October 3
Moon in Leo/Virgo
Void of Course Moon enters Virgo 1:38

The Moon retreats into humble Virgo early Sunday morning encouraging us to seek our own private moments and spaces. No matter how extroverted your personality, we all may benefit from some downtime to recuperate, reflect, and relax with our own thoughts and energies. Connecting with our higher power, inner child, or internal guide and teacher is what we all may need at this time. It’s a good day to practice mindfulness, to work alone, or in tandem with people of like mind. For the Virgo Moon there is a time for service and there is a time for slowing the pace, calming the energies, and finding one’s personal center. Today is a time for the latter.

This afternoon and evening we are ready to rejoin the world, or at least interact with friends and loved ones as Mercury in Libra connects with Jupiter in Aquarius. This is the second of three fortifying trine aspects Mercury makes with the planet of expansion as part of its retrograde cycle. (The first was 9/20 and the last will occur on 10/31 after Mercury finishes its retrograde motion.)

There is personal magic in this connection in which we feel in touch with our dreams but also with our ability to manifest them into reality. We think about our knowledge, strengths, and abilities. Perhaps we remember a talent we have laid aside or feel a renewed hope for using a gift or capacity in a new way. Listen with your intuition and if you receive a compliment, pay attention. You are more gifted than you may believe, and a seemingly random thought or comment may turn your life in a new and exciting direction.

Daily Muse: The most rewarding things you do in life are often the ones that look like they cannot be done… I tended to be perfectly comfortable hitting shots from places where no other golfer ever wanted to be. It turned out to be an important lesson about the game: you've got to learn to live with trouble, and you've got to learn how to get out of it…I've always made a total effort, even when the odds seemed entirely against me. I never quit trying; I never felt that I didn't have a chance to win. (Arnold Palmer – Mercury in Libra conjunct Mars and trine Jupiter in Gemini)

Monday, October 4th through Sunday, October 10th

Astrological Highlights for the week:  New Moon in Libra on Wednesday; Venus enters adventurous Sagittarius on Thursday; two planets end retrograde cycles – Pluto stations direct on Wednesday and Saturn on Sunday.

The New Moon at 13 Libra on Wednesday initiates a new cycle that incorporates a variety of challenging, yet useful and interesting planetary agendas. To work our way through the layers of this zesty lunation, let’s start with the energy of Libra. Every sign has a story. The scales of Libra first and foremost is a tale of balance. On one side we find beauty, harmony, artistry, diplomacy, cooperation, and partnership. Balancing the scales also requires an eye for fairness, equity, and justice.

This is an assertive and initiating Cardinal sign. Venus-ruled Libra will share, agree, accommodate, and cooperate, until an imbalance swings the scales into chaos. Then we see the White Knight of Justice charge in with an idealistic fervor to right every wrong and correct every injustice. It’s also true Libra brings out the amorous side of Venus and expresses our need for romance, love, and partnerships.

What could possibly upset this pretty little picture of sweetness and light? Enter Mars, the Warrior, the planet of inspiration, passion, and action. He’s also sitting at 13 Libra. Like a bored child he is fidgeting and impatient in Libra. Mars is the ruler of independent and pioneering Aries – the sign opposite Libra on the Zodiac wheel. Mars by nature is comfortable acting alone and autonomously. What is all this negotiation, diplomacy, and partnership stuff? Our patience may be wearing thin. But then again, the desire and enthusiasm of Mars can be potent and sexy stuff. It inspires dreams and motivates action toward fulfilling goals including our need for relationships and to build things of beauty together.

Things start getting complicated when we consider retrograding Mercury is also in Libra. Although not closely conjunct – he is sitting at 19 degrees of Libra – his influence is still keenly felt. We are juggling a multitude of ideas and messages as his current course puts him on track to interact with energetic Mars, expansive Jupiter, spiritual Neptune, unpredictable Uranus, and transformational Pluto during this new lunar cycle. If our heads our spinning, there certainly is an astrological reason and correspondence. Our lives feel anything but simple right now.

The picture gets even more complicated when we consider stimulating and rebellious Uranus. Uranus in Taurus has initiated unrest in some of our most stable and conservative institutions. Uranus represents our need and desire to liberate ourselves from the past and specifically from limiting circumstances. Often this is keenly felt on the global stage, but nevertheless we personalize this need to wake up to greater awareness in our personal psyches.

Currently Uranus is at 13 Taurus – in the perfect position to take aim at those planets in Libra creating an awkward 150 degree inconjunct aspect. In the early morning hours of Wednesday, it’s Mars in his sights then on to the Sun and Moon (and eventually Mercury by the following Tuesday). But please let me help dispel the potential fears. The discomfort of Uranus making these aspects is not exactly what we want, but it probably is what we need. If we sit too long in a chair without moving, unconsciously but purposefully we shift our weight and readjust our posture. Our body is sending signals of pain or discomfort to our brains – get moving! We do this often, and repeatedly during both waking and sleeping cycles. Although we are often unaware of these routine adjustments, if we don’t alter our position, it will negatively impact our circulation leading to serious breakdowns to body tissues. Our physical health is literally dependent on our ability to continuously change and adapt.

Uranus is a planet of wake-up calls – it’s time to make an adjustment. We feel uncomfortable or unsettled for a reason. Our structures, beliefs, rules, and lifestyles are pinching our psyches and limiting our growth. Change is inevitable and a fact of life. Expect that Uranus connecting with Mars and the Sun will ignite debates about the nature of relationships and how people that see themselves as separate and individual can come together as partners and as teams without losing what is perceived as a valuable part of themselves.

On a practical level, we will struggle, especially on Tuesday and Wednesday, wanting to be an accommodating team player but anxious to act alone. It will take a lot of personal control to resist the urge to go rogue; and who is saying this might not be the right thing? We may need to jump from one side of the continuum to the other to understand and appreciate the dilemma more fully. These are not easy choices but wrestling through them we will learn a lot about ourselves, our priorities, and values, and about how we want to relate to others.

On a positive note, the New Moon energy also has these planets in Libra loosely connecting to Saturn, the builder and disciplinarian, in forward-thinking Aquarius. Uranus may be disruptive; but Saturn sweeps in with ideas and plans for the renovations to rebuild for the future incorporating the humanitarian and tolerant ideals of Aquarius. By the way, Aquarius is ruled by Uranus – sweet synchronicity!

Also of note, both Pluto and Saturn end retrograde cycles this week – Pluto on Wednesday and Saturn on Sunday. The lessons learned during both patterns will inform the energy of the New Lunar cycle. During Pluto retrogrades we get in touch with our desire for change and transformation, and we glimpse our need to control or manipulate others and circumstances.
Saturn helps us get in touch with where we have abdicated our responsibility. Armed with new revelations and fortitude, we move forward with more awareness and with more determination and hope for our ability to “be the change we want to see.”

Until next week, let go and wear loose clothes.

MONDAY
October 4
Moon in Virgo

We are two days from the New Moon (early Wednesday morning) and feelings of withdrawal are palpable. It’s not unusual for us to feel a little melancholy, nostalgic, or sentimental as the lunar cycle comes to a close. Don’t fight it. Listen to your feelings and follow their lead. The Virgo Moon always has one foot to her private sanctuary even as her other one is dutifully heading to work, bringing soup to a sick friend, or raising funds for the local shelter. Today it will be very beneficial to honor your needs for privacy and alone time. Slow down and quiet the noise.

As we review the past few weeks and contemplate where we have been and where we might want to go next, remember things are not likely what they seem. The Virgo Moon opposing Neptune mid-afternoon can make everything look a bit hazy. Suddenly we are not so sure of ourselves or our plans. When faced with confusing or overwhelming circumstances is it time to press on or turn the page? We won’t really know if we don’t take the time to check in with our inner guide and teacher.

Tonight, the Moon makes a strong and positive connection to Pluto. This is the planet of transformation – a strong clue that positive and profound changes are afoot. Not all things are conceived, birthed, developed, and reach their full potential within the 29 ½ days of a lunar cycle, but nevertheless, as we find ourselves in the last 48 hours of this one we might expect some clear revelations. Messages coming through silence, meditation, and maybe through interactions with others helps us know what needs to begin, what needs attention and nurturance and what needs to be completed and released.

In the early hours of Tuesday morning, the Moon will make a harmonizing connection to Venus in Scorpio which can bring creative ideas and longing wafting through our night time dreams.

Daily Muse: The Universal Law is impartial. It will give you anything you believe. It will throw you garbage or roses depending on the energy you put in. You are the one in charge, and you must accept that and stand alone. If you think God is coming down to fix things for you, forget it. God is out playing golf. (Stuart Wilde – Moon in Virgo)

TUESDAY
October 5
Moon in Virgo/Libra
Moon Goes Void of Course 1:46am enters Libra at 5:41am

The Moon enters relationship-oriented Libra early this morning which turns our hearts toward collaboration and diplomacy. Even though Mercury is also in Libra, the planet of thinking and communication is retrograding keeping many of our thoughts internal and unexpressed. This may turn out to be for the best as Mercury makes a cranky connection with Neptune in Pisces. It’s likely we are having a hard time concentrating. We may be scattered and confused and have a hard time separating fact from fiction. If you happen to be a fantasy or fiction writer, this can be a very creative and productive time!

But for the rest of us, staying on track and communicating clearly and effectively may be quite the challenge. Intuition is flowing, but rational discernment is lacking. We may be easily influenced or deceived. Avoid making important decisions today that can be postponed or rescheduled. Be wary of what you hear as others may believe fervently in what they are saying, but they too may be seriously compromised when it comes to knowing the truth. Pay attention to the influences in your life. You are allowed to be picky! This is a time we may be more sensitive than usual to drugs or alcohol or have an unpredictable or unusual reaction even to something we consider routine or ordinary.

Because of Mercury’s retrograde pattern, it will form this challenging inconjunct aspect to Neptune three times. The first was September 17th and the final will be on October 30th. See this as a pattern of moving from confusion or overwhelm to clarity. It’s an excellent time to think about your values and feel where your life is out of balance, or your walk is inconsistent with your talk.

Be careful too around matters of the heart. Are you hearing only what you want to hear and believe to be true? This evening is a better time to connect with loved ones or with co-workers or bosses. The Moon in Libra makes a positive and strengthening alliance with Saturn in Aquarius providing a small window of opportunity of clarity and focus.

As the evening deepens into night, we come under the building influence of Mars in Libra moving into an uncomfortable connection to Uranus in Taurus. Despite our efforts to cooperate and be part of a partnership or team, emerging desires of individuality interfere. (This aspect is perfect after midnight and will have some continuing influence on Wednesday.) Try not to set unrealistic expectations for a relationship, especially ones that deny individual preferences and desires. We are better off trying to understand these needs and feelings than cover them over with false agreement or disingenuous oaths of loyalty or commitment.

Daily Muse: It was true: the responsibility was huge, but there is nothing about being a father that I don’t love. I even found the toddler tantrums weirdly charming. “You think you’re being difficult, my little sausage? Have I ever told you about the time I drank eight vodka martinis, took all my clothes off in front of a film crew and then broke my manager’s nose?” (Elton John – Mercury in Pisces inconjunct to Neptune in Libra and to Pluto in Leo)

WENSDAY
October 6
New Moon in 13ºLibra 4:05am
Pluto moves direct 11:29am
Moon Goes Void of Course 10:03pm

Overnight Mars, the planet of action formed a difficult and potentially aggravating inconjunct with Uranus in Taurus. If relationships are going through a rough patch, this isn’t going to help. Mars is already struggling a bit to be accommodating and cooperative in this sign. Mars is the ruler of independent and pioneering Aries – the sign opposite Libra on the Zodiac wheel. Mars by nature is comfortable when it can act alone and autonomously. What is all this partnership stuff? Our patience may be wearing thin. And now we are reminded of not so hidden sacrifices we believe we are making for the sake of relationships, as rebellious Uranus provokes Mars.

This dilemma of individuality versus belonging is incorporated into the new Lunar Cycle that begins early this morning, 4:05 Pacific Time, when the Moon in Libra and the Sun meet at 13 Libra – right next door to Mars. This puts both luminaries in line to also form this uncomfortable inconjunct aspect with Uranus in the next few hours. An important theme during this lunar cycle will be learning to understand and balance our need for autonomy and self-determination with our desire to be in satisfying and empowering relationships with other people. Expect this learning curve to include some challenging but temporary and evolving interactions with others.

Also of note, Pluto which retrogrades for about five months a year, stations direct today. During Pluto retrogrades we get in touch with our desire for change and transformation, and we glimpse our need to control or manipulate others and circumstances. Armed with the revelations of this recent retrograde pattern, we start to move forward hopefully with more awareness and with more determination and hope for our ability to “be the change we want to see.”

This evening is a mixture of sweet and sour as the Moon in Libra feels bolstered by an upbeat connection to Jupiter and later feels the seriousness and gravity of the Moon’s conflicting square to Pluto in Capricorn. Change is possible but often includes a balance of pain and elation.

Daily Muse: I feel confident imposing change on myself. It's a lot more fun progressing than looking back. That's why I need to throw curve balls… I don't know where I'm going from here, but I promise it won't be boring. David Bowie (Sun conjunct Mars in Capricorn and inconjunct Uranus in Gemini)

THURSDAY
October 7
Moon in Libra/Scorpio
Venus enters Sagittarius 4:21am
The Void of Course Moon enters Scorpio 7:22am

Venus, the planet of love, romance, values, and finances intends to change our focus today and for the next 28 days as she leaves secretive Scorpio for the adventurous sign of Sagittarius. She may not be able to steal center stage, but she will provide an upbeat and entertaining distraction. Even if we are dealing with serious relationship issues, Venus in Sagittarius says lighten up. This one has a sense of humor and ability to paint life in broad and colorful strokes. Venus in Jupiter-ruled Sagittarius intends to have some fun. She is attracted to almost everyone, not wanting to limit her options. Chasing a romantic dream is more fun than settling down. She’s not exactly unfaithful, but this one is a flirt, loves to socialize, and is a party girl. Venus in Sagittarius is curious and energetic so we might want to adjust our expectations. Quiet nights watching a movie on the couch at home will not be the most attractive bait for your mate.

Venus represents what we find attractive. In Sagittarius we want to explore our curiosities and our attractions. These may be temporary joys or experiences, but how will we know what we like and what makes us feel joyful if we don’t try? Don’t resist what attracts you (within reason of course).

A note to those who approach Venus in bouncy Sagittarius with trepidation. My advice is lighten up and have some fun. Venus only retrogrades every 18 months on average and when she enters dedicated and committed Capricorn on November 5th a retrograde pattern in mid-December through the first three weeks of January will keep Venus in disciplined Capricorn until March 6th. Hear this again – Venus will be in Capricorn for just a few days shy of four months. This is more than enough time to seriously address relationship issues and take a thorough and more responsible look at our values and finances. For now, we play!

But today is not all fun and games. The Moon enters mysterious and serious Scorpio this morning and squares Saturn in Aquarius this evening. We realize our responsibilities but also yearn to be free of heavy feelings and energy. Late tonight we give ourselves permission to act on our desires as the Sun meets up with Mars in Libra. Longing and passions are elevated. This is sexy energy for partners, and dynamic inspiration for creators.

Daily Muse: Everything I did actually helped to build the revenue, shall we say, of experience, which enable me to play a variety of roles as I got older… Every laugh line is a tale, each wrinkle holds a secret…The woman who tries to deny the changes time has wrought is not trusting her natural qualities will shine through. (Angela Lansbury – Venus in Sagittarius - Sun, Moon, Mercury, and Mars in Libra)

FRIDAY
October 8
Moon in Scorpio
Moon Goes Void of Course 11:05pm

Emotions tend to be tense when the Moon is in Scorpio. We are not sure whether to share our feelings or just keep them bottled up. Spending time with a trusted friend or advisor is always a good choice, as Scorpio has a built-in truth meter and does not welcome those they consider to be fools or troublemakers.

Pent up feelings may come spewing out early this morning as the Moon opposes rebellious Uranus. It may be too hard to keep our mouths shut or our faces impenetrable with this stimulating energy provoking us. Although we want to remain in control, there is no shame in expressing ourselves. It’s judgment and regret that eats at the soul. Resolve to be your own best friend. Tell yourself the truth. Find joy in your strengths and accept your weaknesses. And learn to laugh at the life scripts we take so seriously.

Tensions are eased and emotions soothed as we move through the day and toward this evening’s lunar connection to empathetic and forgiving Neptune. Luna’s square to Jupiter a bit later could precipitate another outburst especially around unfinished business.

The evening ends with the Moon making a healing connection to Pluto. Our feelings are no less profound, but we feel more courageous in taking emotional risks. Hearts are resilient and we dig deep to find the strength within ourselves. The more we can find the trust in ourselves, the easier it is to trust others and identify with their fears and their joys, for in truth, they are our own.

Daily Muse: Self-approval and self-acceptance in the now are the main keys to positive changes in every area of our lives…The past has no power over us. It doesn’t matter how long we have had a negative pattern. The point of power is in the present moment. What a wonderful thing to realize! We can begin to be free in this moment! (Louise L. Hay – Moon in Scorpio)

SATURDAY
October 9
Moon in Scorpio/Sagittarius
The Void of Course Moon enters Sagittarius At 8:24am
De
spite any of our circumstances we find something to be grateful for and really happy about today. It helps that the Moon enters enthusiastic and buoyant Sagittarius this morning. This Moon inspires hope and a sense of adventure. We are slow to judge and quick to jump at an opportunity. It could just be taking a car ride or spending the afternoon doing something new with friends.

This morning we are in a chatty mood wanting to share recent thoughts and revelations as retrograding Mercury connects with the Sun. This is the halfway mark in Mercury’s retrograde pattern, and we are anxious to compare notes with others. Maybe lunch plans with friends are on the agenda as the Moon socializes with Venus mid-day.

We are still talking up a storm, or possibly communicating via another medium in late afternoon as Mercury is inspired by a meeting with Mars. We are not likely to hold back as this is a very enthusiastic energy. With both planets in polite and diplomatic Libra, there may not be much to fear, but keep your sense of humor if discussions get heated. It’s never wise to turn your back on the ocean or on a riled-up Libra energy with a sword of justice in hand and a mission in their minds. We do get passionate about our opinions!

We might reign things in a bit as the Moon connects with Saturn in Aquarius. We may still be feeling chatty, but more focused, more purposeful. Which reminds me. I received a wonderful piece of advice this week. It wasn’t intended as such. It was simply an aware person sharing her own insight and story. It’s a great message anytime, but especially during a Mercury retrograde. Here is what she said, “I am learning to stick up for myself by talking less and being more specific with my words.” This is on purpose and profound. (Special thanks to the woman who shared this with me.)

Daily Muse: Life is a classroom. we are both student and teacher. Each day is a test and each day we receive a passing or failing grade in one particular subject: grace. Grace is compassion, gratitude, surrender, faith, forgiveness, good manners, reverence, and the list goes on. It's something money can't buy, and credentials rarely produce. Being the smartest, the prettiest, the most talented, the richest, or even the poorest, can't help. Being a humble person can, and being a helpful person can guide you through your days with grace and gratitude. (Gary Hart – Sun conjunct Mercury in Sagittarius; Mars in Libra)

SUNDAY
October 10
Moon in Sagittarius
Saturn Moves Forward 7:17 pm
Moon goes Void of Course at 9:30 pm

The Sagittarius Moon is true to its nature today – the adventurer and traveler. Lunar travels a course that aligns her with Mercury this morning – let’s go someplace! Mid-day she connects with Mars in Libra for more inspiration and energy. Mid-afternoon it’s the Sun in Libra that encourages Luna to take an afternoon break. Some tea and sandwiches perhaps? Let’s connect.

This evening someone may be quashing our plans and enthusiasm as the Moon squares Neptune. This increases our sensitivity, especially to anything that even has the slightest tinge of disapproval or criticism. We want people to be on board with our enthusiasm, not telling us all the ways we can mess up. We want and expect nurturing and support, but our expectations are not being fulfilled. If we are up late enough, we do get the benefit of a positive lunar alignment with Jupiter that helps take the sting out of a previous slight or feelings of being ignored.

Also of note, Saturn ends a lengthy retrograde pattern today. Think back over the lessons of the last few months. Most likely we will realize we have gotten something right and have a more positive attitude toward our commitments and responsibilities. Moving forward we feel more willing to accept discipline and be self-determined rather than blaming our problems on other people or circumstances.

Daily Muse: Practice isn't the thing you do once you're good. It's the thing you do that makes you good. (Malcolm Gladwell – Saturn retrograde in Aquarius)

Monday, October 11th through Sunday, October 17th

Astrological Highlights for the week: Mercury inconjunct Uranus on Monday night; Venus connects with Saturn on Wednesday; Sun is inconjunct Neptune on Wednesday; trine Jupiter on Friday and squares Pluto on Sunday.

Astrologically speaking this is an important week for the Sun in Libra. As you may have noticed planets moving through Libra including the Sun, Mars, and retrograding Mercury have no lack of interactions around the cosmos. Some are very positive and supportive, others not so much. The Sun deserves to be singled out as it represents our ego, sense of self, and how we identify ourselves as unique, different, and separate from others. Removing much of the judgment around the word ego, think of it simply as the picture we have of ourselves including our aspirations and assessment of our strengths and weaknesses. This week the Sun is literally in the cosmic spotlight as it makes important connections with Neptune (Wednesday), Jupiter (Friday) and with Pluto (Sunday).

Although most of us were not born with the Sun in Libra, we nevertheless resonate with the Sun’s interactions whatever they may be. If you happen to be a Libra, you may feel these energies more acutely than others.

On Wednesday the Sun forms an awkward connection (inconjunct aka quincunx) with Neptune in its home sign of Pisces. We are either starry-eyed or delusional. It’s all in the perspective! It’s an altered state of consciousness that influences how we view ourselves. With Neptune’s overarching association with spirit (versus matter) it’s easier to get in touch with transpersonal qualities like compassion and empathy. Neptune also resonates with intuition, creativity, and imagination.

Because the Sun’s connection with Neptune is a challenging one, we need to beware of potential shadows and pitfalls. There is a fine line between brilliance and crazy as we have all experienced in the world and in ourselves. Don’t tell me you have never looked back at something – maybe that haircut or wardrobe choice – and thought “What was I thinking???” Neptune’s ethereal nature can confuse us especially when it comes to our own value, self-esteem, and purpose.

Mid-week this aspect between the Sun and Neptune could lead us to more than just a misstep with hair color. We could feel an exaggerated sense of self-sacrifice or feel a spiritual or moral responsibility to serve others. Left unchecked we may prioritize others’ needs and preferences while denying our own. It’s rare advice, but maybe we could be more selfish – or better yet self-centered. (Merriam-Webster defines self-centered as “independent of outside force or influence: self-sufficient.) While letting love and kindness be our guide, we can keep appropriate boundaries decreasing the chance others will use, abuse, or totally deplete us.

On Friday the news is much brighter. We receive a huge infusion of faith and hope when the Sun in Libra trines Jupiter in Aquarius. This is one of the most beneficial of planetary connections as Jupiter is traditionally called the “greater benefic”. You would have to be quite the pessimist to not be influenced by the cheerful, optimistic, and hopeful energy this connection creates. Think of it as a lens through which we can glimpse the magic within.

On a soul level we are one and we are the same; but as personalities living on planet earth, we are all blessed with different gifts, talents, and abilities. We may have let distractions get in the way of our vision of ourselves. When the Sun trines Jupiter we get a loving shove to open our eyes and see ourselves in a more hopeful and respectful light. Things we believed out of our reach suddenly seem possible.

Jupiter ends a lengthy retrograde pattern on Sunday, so this connection between the Sun and Jupiter may be a good luck charm that builds in brightness over the next month or so. Use this energy to get reacquainted with yourself, your passions, and your gifts. Resolve from this moment on to maximize your strengths, accept and make accommodations for your weaknesses and to always be your own best friend.

The final Solar aspect this week is a square to Pluto on Sunday. Pluto the planet of elimination and transformation is almost never subtle. When the Sun in charming and justice-seeking Libra conflicts with Pluto in no-nonsense Capricorn the energy is intense. It may elicit feelings we’d prefer to forget, deny, or totally obliterate. You know the ones - vulnerability, jealousy, possessiveness, and feeling out of control. If only we could control the world! If only we could control ourselves.

Be prepared for internal struggles as well as power struggles with others. This is passionate energy that can be used to manipulate, influence, and transform. It’s a powerful tool to be respected and handled carefully. Although it can be initially daunting, jumping this hurdle successfully will increase our self-confidence and empower us to face future challenges. Jupiter moving direct on Sunday will also help. It’s next to impossible to not feel the hope and potential building.

Until next week, let go and wear loose clothes.

MONDAY
October 11
Moon in Sagittarius/Capricorn
Void of Course Moon enters Capricorn 10:15am
Under the influence of an adventurous Sagittarius Moon, we are in the mood to spend time outdoors soaking up sunshine and nature vibes. If you are an outdoor exerciser, get your walk, run, swim, or tennis or pickleball game, in early. Late morning the Moon enters Saturn-ruled Capricorn – the sign of work. Saturn, the planet of discipline, organization, and structure, just finished a lengthy retrograde pattern and is now moving direct. We can expect as it picks up speed, we too are ready to take some action towards goals.

Today we are tuned into Saturn’s energy. We are self-starters not relying on luck or anyone else’s help to get where we want to go. With the Moon in efficient Capricorn, we are willing to work as part of a team but probably happiest if we are in the lead. Working solo may feel more appropriate. This energy tends to prioritize projects and goals over people and relationships. Although, we certainly recognize the importance of co-workers and allies and will enlist them if their efforts will further our identified goal. They are not in the picture for emotional support but as strategic parts of our plan. I know it may sound a bit heartless; but Capricorn by nature can be an ambitious loner. When we are under this lunar influence, we build self-esteem and confidence by testing ourselves and demonstrating our ability to accomplish and persevere on our own.

Being the lone wolf is not such a bad idea considering retrograding Mercury is moving toward a sticky and uncomfortable connection with Uranus late tonight (early morning for many of us). This is the second of three meetings between the planet of thinking and communication, and the planet of revolution. (The first was 9/10 and the final will occur on 10/24). This is an evolving pattern of identifying where we feel restricted or censored, especially when it comes to our thinking and communications. This understanding helps us break out of the patterns and forge new ones.

Tonight, and tomorrow, we may have what seems like a revelation. When we examine this aha moment, we probably recognize it has been coming for a long time. It may lead to an acceptance of ourselves as independent and unusual thinkers and communicators. Maybe our message is ahead of its time, out of sync with what’s popular, or our style goes against the mainstream. What’s most important is understanding and acceptance. The better we appreciate our messaging and our audience, the better we communicate…or not.

Challenges are precipitated by cranky interactions with others. Don’t expect other people to immediately jump on board with our evolving ideas and decisions. Give it some time. Using our lives, feelings, and responses as lessons, we can get in touch with deeper sources of our anger, frustration, pain, and joy. Uranus helps us disengage from attachments that are limiting.

Mercury’s many planetary interactions this month work collectively to help us gain more clarity and to recognize the power of our minds to choose our interpretations and perceptions. Tonight, is one more opportunity for a puzzle piece to be revealed.

Daily Muse: I've come to believe that each of us has a personal calling that's as unique as a fingerprint - and that the best way to succeed is to discover what you love and then find a way to offer it to others in the form of service, working hard, and also allowing the energy of the universe to lead you…With every experience, you alone are painting your own canvas, thought by thought, choice by choice. (Oprah Winfrey – Mercury in Aquarius perfectly inconjunct Uranus in Cancer.)

TUESDAY
October 12
Moon in Capricorn
Here’s hoping you read Monday’s write-up about the Capricorn Moon; there is an intensification of this energy throughout Tuesday. The lone-wolf side of the Capricorn Moon is front and center as Luna makes challenging squares with three planets in the partnership sign of Libra. Our emotions are out of sync with our thinking (square to Mercury) about relationships and probably about money and finances. We may be faced with a decision today in which our hearts and actions seem to be at odds with each other (Moon square Mars). If we are prone to pessimism, we are probably seeing our options as a choice between two evils. The Sun’s square to the Moon this evening seems to solidify our dilemma. Is there a win in this situation?

Thankfully the Moon is also making two positive and enlightening planetary connections today. Both will help mitigate some of the discordant feelings elicited by the lunar connections described above. The first is to Uranus inviting creativity and offering legitimacy to out-of-the-box thinking and solutions. Demanding times require creative and unconventional responses. Tonight, a soothing and spiritually compelling lunar alliance with Neptune helps us re-connect to our values and find a different and more forgiving perspective.

Daily Muse: Every night I say prayers for him just so he knows that when my day ends and I'm ready to dream he will always be one of the last waking thoughts I have and perhaps one of the first dreams of my sleeping night.
(Sandra Bernhard - Moon sextile Neptune and trine Pluto)

WENSDAY
October 13
Moon in Capricorn/Aquarius
Moon Goes Void of Course 3:53am enters Aquarius 1:47pm

The day may start on a somewhat cathartic note as the Moon meets up with Pluto in Capricorn. This early morning connection (3:53 Pacific Time) adds a sense of gravity to our emotions, if we are awake, that is. It could be powerful enough to interject drama into our dreams or wake us up with a sense of destiny calling. Indeed, an event or interaction that feels fated may be forthcoming as Venus in audacious Sagittarius makes a favorable sextile connection to Saturn in Aquarius.

We tout the flirty and adventurous spirit of Venus in Jupiter-ruled Sagittarius. This is not usually a time we want to limit our options by making commitments. We want to expand the possibilities! Today, could be the exception. Whenever Venus bonds with Saturn in a beneficial way (usually a trine or sextile) we are more inclined to take an oath, make a commitment, or accept a responsibility. It should be a good day for making amends for any recent transgressions. Spending too much time at the office, on the computer, or at the job site? (Capricorn Moons tend to be workaholics.) Today we find greater harmony with loved ones by shifting our focus.

We may even find synchronicity leads us to a potential new love. This could be a person, a home, pleasurable hobby or pastime, exercise program, or a new job or career. We feel like we are in the right place at the right time and there is a bit of magic in the air. Keep in mind, magic or not, Saturn expects us to be patient and earn our blessings and pleasures. First, we show up, then we must be ready to act.

Another influence today is the Sun in Libra’s inconjunct with Neptune in Pisces. We are either starry-eyed or delusional. It’s all in the perspective! It’s an altered state of consciousness that influences how we view ourselves. With Neptune’s overarching association with spirit (versus matter) it’s easier to get in touch with transpersonal qualities like compassion and empathy. Because this is a challenging connection we need to beware of potential shadows. These include an exaggerated tendency towards self-sacrifice or feeling a spiritual or moral responsibility to serve others. Left unchecked we may prioritize others’ needs and preferences while denying our own. It’s rare advice, but today, maybe we should be more selfish – or better yet self-centered. (Merriam-Webster defines self-centered as “independent of outside force or influence: self-sufficient.) While letting love and kindness be our guide, we can keep appropriate boundaries decreasing the chance others will use, abuse, or totally deplete us.

In mid-afternoon the Moon heads for the mental sign of Aquarius. We’re able to shift into a different heart space and detach from recent drama. But then again, this Moon has a definite rebellious streak. Hanging out with people of like mind is preferable. But don’t be surprised if even our dependable cronies seem to be rubbing us the wrong way. With an Aquarius Moon, we need to know we can walk away…if we want to.

Daily Muse: Living is messy. (Woody Allen – Moon in Aquarius)

THURSDAY
October 14
Moon in Aquarius
The Aquarian Moon’s connection to Saturn emboldens our dreams or our sense of authority if we are working a night shift (1:52 am Pacific Time). If we dream, we are taking control of the world, or maybe just taking more responsibility in our lives it’s Saturn’s influence. This Moon is steeped in Uranian agitation so sleep may be restless; enough so that the Moon’s connection to Venus at 3:03 am PDT could be enough to get us out of bed and moving towards something we are excited about.

Mid-morning the Moon trines retrograding Mercury. We are self-confident in our words and communications, but should we be? There’s plenty of room for self-doubt amid our unyielding proclamations. Don’t let volume or repetition fool you. Neither are indications of truth. The Aquarian Moon encourages us to question everything. But we should be cautious about rejecting everything without a fair examination. We are leaning towards throwing out everything old and embracing everything new when Aquarius rules our hearts. During this Mercury retrograde, (through next Monday) allow yourself to objectively review and renew with patience.

Now, about patience. It’s in short supply this afternoon when the Moon forms a conflicting square with Uranus. We will rebel against most anything and everything that crosses our path. Tempers may flare unexpectedly, or emotional outbursts erupt. If you find yourself feeling triggered, attempt to step outside yourself for a moment and observe without judgment. The instigating event is probably not at the root of what is upsetting; it merely becomes the flash point. What could or would we want to do differently next time?

We are still feeling unsettled this evening, but a plan is emerging as the Moon is moving toward a peace-making alignment with Mars in Libra in the early hours of Friday morning. We may benefit tonight as we consider our motivations for being in relationship with others. Hopefully we can dial back our insistence on others having to be a certain way and meet all our needs. (This is our job!)

Daily Muse: I don’t believe in learning from other people’s pictures. I think you should learn from your own interior vision of things and discover, as I say, Innocently, as though there had never been anybody. (Orson Welles – Moon in Aquarius conjunct Uranus and North Node of the Moon square Sun and Mercury in Taurus)

FRIDAY
October 15
Moon in Aquarius/Pisces
Moon Goes Void of Course 5:33am enters Pisces at 7:22pm
This has all the makings of a wonderful day, if we can get a handle on our egos and take responsibility for our choices. We are under the influence of a rebellious Aquarian Moon, which by now may be wearing a bit thin. Like a two-year old throwing a fit, we may be weary of spending our efforts fighting against what we don’t like instead of working towards what we do. Thank you, Aquarian Moon, for your energy and pluck; let’s see what happens when we apply this spirit cooperatively.

In the early morning hours, the Moon makes a beneficial connection to Mars in Libra starting us off on the right foot, even if we are in dreamland (12:57 am PDT). In the early morning we get a huge infusion of faith and hope when the Sun in Libra trines Jupiter in Aquarius. This is one of the most beneficial of planetary connections as the Sun represents our sense of self and Jupiter is traditionally the “greater benefic”. You would have to be quite the pessimist to not be influenced by the cheerful, optimistic, and hopeful energy this connection projects. Think of it as a lens through which we can glimpse the magic within. On a soul level we are one and we are the same; but as personalities living on planet earth, we are all blessed with different gifts, talents, and abilities. We may have let distractions get in the way of our vision; today we get a loving shove to open our eyes and see ourselves in a more hopeful and respectful light.

In case we are slow to recognize the above, the Moon in Aquarius joins Jupiter this morning too. Perhaps our rebellion and unrest take on a new purpose – promoting hope. There is more good news this evening when the Sun in Libra and the Moon in Aquarius find common ground. Our sense of needing to mutiny is dissolving and emotionally we are looking for ways to rejoin those of like mind – those we consider to be our true family.

Later excited emotions are further transformed as the Moon enters intuitive and forgiving Pisces. A changing perspective puts a new light on our desire to be separate from others.

Daily Muse: You come to a point in your life when you really don't care what people think about you, you just care what you think about yourself… I decided to fly through the air and live in the sunlight and enjoy life as much as I could… I am a lucky, lucky person. (Evel Knievel – Sun in Libra trine Jupiter in Aquarius; Moon in Leo)

SATURDAY
October 16
Moon in Pisces
The Pisces Moon lures us into her dreamy realm of imagination today. It’s a good place to be if we have at least one safeguard. The best lifeline is having a connection to your inner self, your inner guide and teacher, aka a spiritual practice or discipline. Impressionable Pisces otherwise can get swept up by every ripple, wave, or suggestion.

It’s a great Moon for exploring creativity, imagination, and intuition. Generally, we don’t want to deal with too much “reality” so those activities and qualities that appeal to the opposite sign of Virgo – cleaning, organizing, analyzing, discipline and efficiency seem like too much work. We want to go with the flow! Emotionally we are focusing only on the process, not the destination. Taking our eye off the goal for a day or two isn’t going to do any real damage, so maybe we ought to give ourselves a break.

Also working against our making any measurable progress today is Mars in Libra forming a cranky inconjunct with Neptune in Pisces. We may think we know what is best for our relationships and for our loved ones but pushing our vision onto them probably will not be well received. How often do we realize in retrospect we don’t even know what is best for us? Rather than spending time “fixing” other people we can practice opening ourselves up to inspiration. Play with activities like meditation, channeled writing, animal communication, taking a walk, or writing poetry or music, drawing or painting. Where does your inspiration come from and what are the channels most in alignment with you? What feeds your imagination and your soul?

A grouchy connection between the Moon and Venus this afternoon provides the motivation for staying in our own yard and not interfering with where we don’t belong. Meanwhile retrograding Mercury is moving toward a sweet connection with Venus tonight. Reconciliation is found in unexpected communications and creativity soars. Look for more surprising possibilities for connection tonight when the Moon aligns with Uranus. That movie you have been resisting turns out to be a delightful surprise.

Daily Muse: Laughter is timeless, imagination has no age, dreams are forever. (Walt Disney – Mercury in Scorpio sextile Venus in Capricorn; Sun conjunct Uranus in Sagittarius)

SUNDA
October 17
Moon in Pisces
Jupiter Moves Forward 10:30 pm
Moon goes Void of Course at 4:24 pm
We may think of the Pisces Moon as being a softie, and sometimes it is. But today, we probably want to escape rather than finding a way to be creative or imaginative around the challenging energy. But keep in mind, Pisces ability to transcend is always an avenue! The difficulty is anything but subtle this morning when the Sun in Libra squares Pluto in Capricorn. This brings up intense feelings and often ones we’d rather forget, like vulnerability, jealousy, and possessiveness. If only we could control the world! If only we could control ourselves. Watch for internal struggles as well as power struggles with others. This is passionate energy that can be used to manipulate, influence, and transform. It’s a powerful tool to be respected and handled carefully.

It’s a good time to look at our insecurities and our defenses. What are the triggers that make us feel unsafe, overlooked, oppressed, or dominated? Getting a better understanding of these feelings and learning how to transform them is the key. When we seek to wield authority or power over others, and make them change or conform, it should be a red flag.

Be prepared to let off some steam. Use this heads up to avoid potential trigger situations and interactions. Fortunately, once we get past the initial shock of this energy, the Moon’s conjunction with Neptune helps us dive into the compassion, empathy, and intuition that will smooth out this rough energy. In late afternoon the Moon’s connection with Pluto will also provide insight into how we can harness our powerful passions and channel them for good.

Way to bury the lead! Jupiter finishes its annual retrograde pattern today. Looking forward we find it easier to believe in a positive future. As the planet of hope, Jupiter coming out of its retreat makes everything seem brighter.

Daily Muse: You may have to fight a battle more than once to win it… I am extraordinarily patient, provided I get my own way in the end. (Margaret Thatcher – Sun in Libra square Pluto in Cancer and square Jupiter in Capricorn)
