I have a Min Pin Poncho, my baby, who has severe allergies this time of year. Ugh! Well, it started up again a couple of days ago and is so bad that he is back on antibiotics and anti-histamines. I really hate giving him these medications (he's just a little guy), but the entire side of his face is swollen and bloody from scratching. Yep, he has a cone on, but he's smart! What's odd is that when we lived in Germany, he never had allergies and we lived right next to woods. Here again our backyard backs up to the woods, but it's the opposite. Last year he lost most of his hair and had welts all over (nope, not mange). I can't figure out what is causing this! I think it's all the leaves, but not sure....ugh!

I'd love a herbal remedy and prayers or anything! Also, if anyone is familiar with this kind of situation, any advice woud be great too!

My little man greatly appreciates all your help too! (bed)

Yep, I've already done that and have switched quite awhile back to an all natural dog food and also I feed him raw chicken. The raw chicken helps A LOT! And I've always made sure that he gets his dog food too so that he doesn't miss any nutrients.

However, it's that season again....ugh....I just wish I could find a natural herb to feed him or in a balm to stop it ahead of time. I've tried pet message boards where a group sends out healing prayers or thoughts, and it worked, but only for a few days. So, now I'm looking for the herbs, and possibly a spell or something I can do for him whenever this happens. He's my precious, can you tell? lol I would do anything for my little guy....he's is my angel buddy and has saved my sanity so many times....

If anyone knows of a spell or ritual I can do for him, I will need guidance Smile This will be my very first time doing anything like this....how's that for an initiation Smile

This may sound strange, but is the heat in this house different from the other house that you were in?

My house has natural gas heat and it bothers my dog/baby something aweful! She's fine in the spring, summer and first part of fall, but as soon as I turn the heat on......BAM! She scratches and bites at herself so bad that she gets bald spots and sores on her back and when I try to pet her she just shivers/shakes terribley! I thought she might have mange, but I know that she just has dry skin in the winter,I know that's what it is!
I've come to the conclusion that my Vet. knows absolutely nothing,so I took it upon myself to fix the situation myself!

Once a week I bathe her with doggie tea tree shampoo. After she is rinsed well,I put warm water in the tub and add a little bit of baby oil and massage it into her skin really well and then dab her dry with a towel. She air dries the rest of the way. A hairdryer will make it worse!

Also,I mixed medicinal grade tea tree oil and baby oil together in a bottle. When my baby gets itchy through the week,I apply it as often as needed to the bald places to keep them moist. Most generally twice a day.
My doggie loves her "medicine" when she's itchy and her hair is growing back now! Very Happy

Good luck to you and your baby!

In Germany we had a different heating system, but while living in an apartment here, it's the same and didn't bother him. Last year he had it all over his body, whereas this year it's mainly around his face. I think it's the dead leaves, but who knows!

I'll definitely try the green tea oil. Where did you purchase it? I use oatmeal conditioner on him, and that works pretty well too.

And, thank you so much for the suggestion!

Sorry it has taken me so long to reply, but sometimes my computer gets posessed by evil internet trolls. Embarassed

You can get the Tea Tree oil just about anywhere. I know that GNC and Walmart both carry it.

Good luck!

i don't know if this would help but it is suggested for people that have itchy skin to bathe in lukewarm oatmeat bath. put about 1 c oatmeal ( or baking soda) in a sock and run under lukewarm water. using the sock is just to prevent a gooey mess in tub. i don't know if dogs can use otc hydrocortisone creme but it also might help with the itching and aid healing process and maybe break that itching-scratching cycle. you have a daring fur-baby and will sent healing energies

yep, I've tried the oatmeal, but in the prescription shampoo. It helps tremendously, and the conditioner I leave in his fur. This has helped too. Yep, I was'nt kidding when I said I've tried it all Smile Now you can see why I am interested in something to protect him. But Thank you Genie! Any positive energy in his direction is greatly GREATLY appreciated. This little boy has been my saving grace time and time again. He's "my" angel. I would do anything for him. The odd thing out of this is that in Germany, he never had any allergies....none what so ever....I guess he's just european and misses home Smile me too, by the way....

And Thanks to anyone reading these posts....all the positive thoughts help Smile

i had a similar problem with my cat familiar Jaz a couple of years ago. he had chronic itching and pulled or lost all the hair from his hind quarters. after many tests and much worry from his vet, the doc diagnosed a skin allergy. Jaz was allergic to the chemicals the neighbors were spraying on their lawns. a series of baths (eek! 15 pounds of wet cat!!) and a few month of steroids and he was good as new. since then, i keep Jaz indoors most of the spring when all the herbicides are being sprayed. i also elimated the use of chemicals to clean the carpets. so far so good. best of luck with your baby!!

Silly question, as you have probably already thought about it, but you don't have poison ivy or some form of ivy that would set your little one off would you?

Just a thought with you saying you thought it could be the leaves.
