The leaves fall, soft and subtle
Golden leaves, upon the ground
Rich, as they rustle gently
Their thousand voices pierce the night
They cry, they call, they penetrate
Each a remnant of the past,
Reflections of a future
They fall like rain upon an iron roof
They are the shattering of a window pane
Into a thousand pieces
They are reflected in the light of the moon
And they fall to a grassy plain,
Where the wind is free, unbound by walls
Here they fall like the death of a star
Each is heavy as the ocean
Calm, vast, deep and shallow,
Rough, fierce, sorrowful and sad
Piercing the evening, they take their flight
Golden leaves, upon the ground
Rich, as they rustle gently
Their thousand voices pierce the night
They cry, they call, they penetrate
Each a remnant of the past,
Reflections of a future
They fall like rain upon an iron roof
They are the shattering of a window pane
Into a thousand pieces
They are reflected in the light of the moon
And they fall to a grassy plain,
Where the wind is free, unbound by walls
Here they fall like the death of a star
Each is heavy as the ocean
Calm, vast, deep and shallow,
Rough, fierce, sorrowful and sad
Piercing the evening, they take their flight
