ok saw the Da Vinci Code the other night and I thought it was pretty awsome. There r alot of things in the movie that i have read about in factual lit's. Being brought up Catholic I started to read alot about the religion when i was finding my path to Wicca. In fact i read alot about the different kinds of religions. Here is my opinion:

You have always heard that the truth will always set u free well Religion can too...

Paganism was the first real religion as we all know. If u reall think about it when Jesus left this earth he really left it in turmoil and confusion. Pagan's thought they were right and Christians thought they were right. They eventually came to an understanding but i still wonder who converted who? Since all the Christian Holy Days r based on Pagan holidays and the Catholic Mass is really nothing more that a ritual....who converted who?

Paganism is the fastest growing religion so far not only here but over seas too. Alot of ppl r reverting back to the basics of their beliefs when we beleived that trees and the grass had spirits that dwell in them. That we had a name of the spirit that gaurds us all. This is the truth...this is freedom. No purgatory...no torture and fear of our immortality being distroyed. Just peace within urself. That is where the Goddess resides within ur heart and soul. That is what makes the human soul beautiful. Seeing her face in someone's eyes....can be over powering at times. Even though u have no physical means u can look outside and see all the riches that Divinity bestowed on u and know that it is ours for our time here.

The thing of Constantine in the movie was true. He was born and believed Pagan until his baptism on his deathbed. What he did to unify Rome was really an extraordinary feat and very good business dealings. What would Wall Street do with a man like that? lol

ok...I'm off that soap box for now. See u guys tonight =)

Brightest Blessings

MM,

I had read the book long ago, and could hardly wait to see the movie. We went to opening night, and loved every minute of the film.

I agree that this is more factual than what Christians want others to believe. I think that Dan Brown has done a great job of opening the door to what happened between Pagans and Christians.

I liked the movie too , I also enjoyed Star Wars and King Kong....I feel they are "equal pegging" as factual films go.

But as Dan said , its only a story.

I saw it with one of my good friends, and my boss was there as well.

I liked it to a degree. I dunno, maybe it's because I'm still mostly a kid, but it didn't catch my intrest much at all. I liked how it portrayed the great search of the Holy Grail, but I figured out the answer far quicker then anyone else. Soon as he mentioned the Grail was indeed not a cup, I knew the answer exactly and stopped paying attention. It's been too long since I've watched the movie, so I can't remember quite whatelse to say at this point.

Ah, my Boss (who's also Pagan) didn't like it either. Too contriversal and her bf likes to debat.

I saw it start of this year, and I actually thought it was a really good movie. The ending gave me little chills.

I'm glad they didn't get too technical in the movies, because apparently in the book it is a little hard to understand. (so my mother in law said, I haven't read the book).

So yeah thought it was good Smile

Blessed be

My kids rented the movie and brought it over last weekend. I grew up a Christian and I loved it!! It made sence!! More then everything else we were taught THAT's for sure! Wink

If you haven't seen it you should. It's an eye opener. Certainly gives you a new perspective. Very Happy

I just seen the movie this past week and found it very interesting. I love when people write books or movies that pushes the limit of what we know as the "truth". It definelty caused a lot of discussions with every religion. And although I did have it partly figured out, I was still intrigued to see how exactly it would end. I have since bought the book, (I know, Im doing things backwards) and am interested to see what details they left out of the movie.

I would recommend this movie and book to the open minded.

I had to put my two cents in...
I read the book's Angels and Demons, and this one a few years ago. And when I heard about the other author and the issue with the fact that he had done years and years of research only to have his work taken and glorified as someone elses, yes it was disheartening... But that (SADLY) was not even my big peeve with the movie... In reading the book I thought of Langdon as a hansome scholarly man, when I heard who they had cast to play the character I was so so so disappointed!! I did finally rent it and loved the other carrector choices they meshed very well with my idea of the characters, but still couldnt get over Langdon..... Other than that still liked the book better, as always..

I haven't seen the movie or read the book but have seen the previews. I am going to buy the movie because we don't go much. We like to sit at home and watch.
With all the comments here , I can't wait to see the movie. Thanks for all your comments.

We rented it not too long ago and I have been telling everyone to watch it. lol My husband and I actually didn't have any interest in it from the previews. We knew what it was about because of all the talk about the book, but we hadn't read that either by choice. But, our 9 year old daughter wanted to watch it so I got it.
We put it in and maybe 20 minutes later we turned it off because we were sucked into it but couldn't really keep up with our kids running around. He and I watched it later that night when they went to bed. We were glued to it. Even with having to pay close attention it was still so riviting that we couldn't help but pay attention.
We put it in again the next day so our daughter could watch it. She sat and watched all of it and said it was a good movie. But I don't know how much of it she really understood. I know there wasn't too many moments in there where she could see explanations for things, as she hasn't been raised in the Christian faith. So to her it may have been nothing more than a great mystery/treasure hunt movie. Which as I understand it, is really what the book/movie is supposed to be..just with some facts thrown in to make it so good. As any good book, no matter what type, has to have an element of.

Ok, I am rambling and probably not making any sense at all. Definitly recommend this movie to all who have not seen it. Just make sure you have some quiet time in order to follow along and enjoy it.
Oh one more note..if you need glasses to see subtitles make sure you have them on. The entire movie is not in subtitle, but parts are as they are speaking in French. I knew this before watching, but still forgot to grab my glasses. lol Once I had them on all was good. lol

This is one movie that is on my "wish list" for the next paycheck. I saw it at WallyWorld, and told my SO that I wanted it. He agreed, so that will be our next big purchase. I don't know whether this is the DVD with the extras or not. I really hope so. But, it will cost us almost as much as our player cost. (Yes, we got a cheapie, but it works)

I read the book, many times, and hope that the movie is as good as the book. I also read HBHG (Thanks LE), and see where Mr. Brown got most of his information. I think that it would have been nice of him to admit it, in the acknowledgements. I also read Angels and Demons by him, and enjoyed it. My library actually has copies of all of his books, so I will be getting them sometime soon. I couldn't believe it when I saw them. Small town, small minds, makes for getting some things really difficult.

Amusingly, the topic of the Da Vinci Code has been in literature since the late 1970s to early 80s. The first big publication with this theme was Holy Blood, Holy Grail by Michael Baigent, Richard Leigh, and Henry Lincoln. Additionally, the computer game Gabriel Knight 3 popularized the motif with a supernatural twist.

As far as Dan Brown's work goes, I thought Angels and Demons was better written and a better story. Additionally, the Da Vinci Code was far from the breath-taking factual epic. The Mona Lisa was not a self portrait of Da Vinci -- the actual receipt for the commissioning of the work still exists, and it was a portrait of a merchant's wife. The Spear of Destiny is on display in a church in eastern Europe (Germany if I remember correctly.
