Merry Meet,
im new to this site and forum,i liked it too much,I just have a very newbie,dumb question that i would ask.
Here we go,i live in a very difficult housr;with a very annoying brother,stupid maid,suspicious mother and father.
i just want to erect my own altar and construct it but i dont find any place to do so,there is an idea bubbling from my head about where to construct the altar;on my bed shelf,just above my bed,but there would be a problem,when i wil stand infront of it i must stand on my bed,besides i cant walk my circle when casting it around my altar for protection,but that would be my only secure,private place that noone can even disturb or touch or even question me about it.My question is,can i construct it on my bed shelf or not?
I need a fast answer please coz im learning about wicca from a year and a half and i didnt even dedicate my self to the craft,didnt cast the circle or witness the feelings of purity and closeness with the God and Goddess enrgies,i didnt feel their power yet,i want to do all these things.

There is tons of info online, covering many aspects of the craft. Find what makes [bold]you[/bold] comfortable, and makes sense to you.

Don't worry so much about the 'stuff' of the craft. Make sure, in your heart, you are beginning travels on the right path.

Most importantly, breathe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!LOL

Your intent is what is imoprtant...remember that spells are "Prayers wuith tools" and the ony tool you really need you already have...your brain.

The tools we use are there to help our mind focus....try using music, or art....something you enjoy doing...take up a craft or hobby of some sort...

I always enjoy looking at the stars and the moon..also learning about waether patterns....it was mundane to everyone I knew and very magickal to me....there is much to learn in everything you see, do, every day....

This path is one that comes from within...if it is meant for you, you will live it...each moment of each day....without trying.

A ritual can be as simple as lighting a candle, a stick of incense or saying a prayer every day.

Take your time, read everything you can get your hands on....if there is a Metaphysical store near you, go there...do they have classes for anything that might interest you?? Can you meet people of like kind?? Health food stores are another place to find classes in herbology, astrology, and good health, which is another thing we hold highly....

Most of all, enjoy yourself, and don't rush.....life is a joy each and every day....live it.

Im not on a rush,and thanks for all those advices.I have read too many articles on the internet and im reading others on my way,and i have read four books on wicca and im reading them again,but none can answer my question,can i put my altar on that place or not,besides i dont have anymetaphysical stores here in egypt,and no one i know practice wicca near me in egypt ,i saw it on witchvoice web site.i think i would never initiate if i would initiated,i would now be a third degree priest ,anyway i think i will live all my life reading books about the craft and reading articles and people experiences without even doing my own.
thanks to your help,and i will try to hide all my books and altar tools that i bought last year from my parents for a while untill they forget about me

I agree with what others have said, and with what Aloramyst posted above. Your altar can be anywhere, including your own mind, and it can be permanent or temporary.
I get the feeling though that what your concerned about is if you don't do things exactly as you have read them, will things still work? The answer is yes. As others have said it is your intent, not the props that make things work. So with that in mind, if you can't stand in front of your altar..kneel or sit. If you can't walk around your altar..visualize your protective circle around the area without the actual walking part.

As for initiating ones self. That is a matter of debate between people. I personally believe if you are in a coven you are initiated. If your a solitary you do a self-dedication. Meaning you are dedicating yourself to your chosen path. This may seem like splitting hairs, but there are reasons behind it, which I won't get into in this thread.

If you feel like Wicca is the path for you, then dedicate yourself to the beliefs and path. Then continue to learn all you can. Things can be confusing but if you put each bit of knowledge you learn against your heart and follow what feels right to you, then you will be fine. And remember that just because something is written doesn't make it written in stone. No author is going to do things the exact same way as another author, nor are they going to be able to put every ounce of knowledge they have in one..or even three..books. Follow your own sense of right/wrong, your own sense of intuition, etc.

As for the Gods and Goddesses, learn all you can about each one. Pay attention to your meditations, dreams, signs around you. He/She will come to you. If you suddenly have a deep urge to call upon Isis, she is probably calling to you. Meditate and see what you get. It is a belief that we do not choose our Gods, but rather they choose us. And no amount of reading about a specific dieity and calling to them will help if we aren't meant to work with them. Which would explain your lack of feeling or calling from the Gods. Also keep in mind that you may work with one diety for years and suddenly be called by another one. I honored Diana for years (still do) but in the last few years I have also honored Isis. And I believe the Morrigan is calling to me now. So it is perfectly acceptable to honor more than one God and more than one Goddess. And perfectly acceptable to live in one area of the world and have a diety from a completely different area of the world. We all do things our own ways.

I hope all this made sense and helps you in some way. As it was said above, you will continue to learn and grow until the day you die. And then your just in another stage of learning..so pretty much you will never stop.

First off, take a few deep, cleansing breaths and slow down. Wicca has been around for a long time and isn't going anywhere I compleatly understand what you're going through with your home situation (I too am a witch at home with her parents). About the whole altar thing and where to set it up Lady Elaine is right; all you need is your mind. Before I was out of the broom closet I would set up an altar on a special cloth on my floor when I wanted one. It was temporary albeit a little bit more work. Open up your eyes to new possibilities, let your mind wander on where to set up an altar. It doesn't have to be permenant or even tangible for that matter. Like most of the people above have said just learn all you can. The Craft has been around for a long time, and there is always going to be something new for you to learn.
