I waited until I got home from the maternity ward with my son in order to do the blessing. There was no way I could concentrate and I was pretty exhausted too.

When I was researching baby blessings I read about the use of bells to chase away evil spirits in Polish traditions. I incorporated this and brought my son to my altar creating a circle. I basically presented him to the goddess and ask that she watch over him all of his life and make sure that he is always taken care of if anything should happen to me. My son the slept the whole time very peacefully while I talked about my hopes and dreams for him.

I think that this is a beautiful thing to do for any child. Talk about strengthening the bond between you and between them and the creator.

Hmm, my daughter is 2 months old now, and I'm thinking of doing something similar. I haven't given it much thought, but I want it to be special for her.
But yeah, just a blessing, not a dedication. I don't believe in dedicating a baby to any religion before they understand it.

I agree with you water lily.  A child should never bed dedicated to anything they don't under stand.  But then I don't think kids in elementary school should be forced to say the pledge of Alligience either.  All Americans should know it, but a pledge is an oath, a sacred promise.  It is something a 5 year old isn't old enough to understand.  But I am rambling.  As ussual.
