My sister down in fla. just emailed me to let me know they are putting down Princess. She is an 11.5 yr old lab/dobie mix. She has advanced stage lung cancer. She has been with our family since she was born in our old house's bathroom! My daughter and I had her for about 2 yrs, then gave her to my sister who had a HUGE backyard. We lived in a small home with no grass in the back and knew Princess would be happier with her. We missed having her around for so long, but we adjusted. Even though she hasn't lived with us for so long, it feels as if I am losing a dear friend. She will be set free tonight at 6:30. Please send good vibes to her, as well as my sister and her three young children who are definitely upset. Please send loving light to my daughter ,who, when she finds out will be devastated!
Thank you!

I will be thinking of your family, it is so hard to let go of those we love, I have always had dogs in my life, I know how special the bond is. Evne when you no longer live with them, they are still apart of you. Princess sounds like she has had a wonderful family and for that I am sure she is thankful! I truly believe that this bond transcends, the love we feel keeps us connected with them.

I have a 5 year old Dobie who is my 4th child, and she knows it.
I will hug her tight with loving thoughts of Princess.

So sorry. Seems like she had a full happy life with nice people and that is important. She will be happy with a lot of others.
Princess
She brought us happiness with a smile and a grin
What love she brought into our house ,every day begin.
She brought us out of bad moods, with a lick on the face
playing in the yard and digging up the place.
Somehow the years flew by and as happens, grew old
But still she gave love, part of the family fold.
Now we have to say goodbye, so very hard to do
But I know her spirit will still be with me too
She'll romp around on the ground ,Where all the dogs go to race.
And in the darkest nights, I'll feel that lick upon my face.
Princess is the queen now, taking over all with glee
But someday I will see her again, because she's a part of me.

You are very welcome. We've lost a few dogs ourselves and can't have any now because we live in an apartment, but I know how you feel and my heart goes out to you.

Very sorry to hear of your loss, losing a pet i know from personal experience is difficult. we lost our dog of 13 yrs two years ago, he was chocolate lab mix whom we loved so very much.
At times i feel/smell him in our home. he had too many medical problems that the doctors could no longer help him with. But we do have a paw print on a round piece of clay that was made in his memory the very night he was put to sleep., we also have him here buried in our yard.
we lit a candle for him every night for a year and then on the 1st anniversary of his passing we lit a canlde and placed it in our bird bath out in our yard as a vigil to him. Crying or Very sad

Love and light to you all

Hugs to all who have lost a dear pet.

I hope no one minds me posting this here. I wanted to use the same title (saying goodbye to a dear friend), and saw it already existed.

Yesterday my family cat of 13 years, Tiger, passed away. I'm very sad. We found him when I was just a kid and he was a small baby kitty. When we found him in our yard, his mother had died and he was left all alone and too small to even feed himself, so we took him in. He's been with our family through cross country moves and all. I know he's now with his brother, our old family dog Max, who passed about 5 years ago. I'm too sad to write anymore, but I thought I'd share some pics.

I am sorry for your loss, Larc. While I adore all animals, cats just have that special je ne sais quois. It is as though they are human, but well... better.

Thank you Stacey. You are right, cats are extra special. I just wanted to add something about Tiger that helped make him extra special was that he had seven toes. I always thought that was special about him.

My sister called me today about it and told me her dream that made me cry. She only found out about Tiger today, but she said last night she dreamt that a deer came to her and was nuzzling her. She said in the dream she stood there and hugged it for a very long time. She said it was trying to comfort her, and that it was so real that she can still remember what it felt like and smelled like. She couldn't understand her dream until today when my mom told her the news. It moved me because in my dreams and when I meditate a deer comes to me too.

I just thought I'd share... thanks for reading.

I tell you, I have lost human family members, and not to sound disrespectful, losing my canine&avian friends has always seemed more painful. Maybe because they love us with such abandon? No matter what kind of day my canine friend has had, she always has such happiness when we are all home................in the morning, she wakes us and still does her happy dance after 15 years, she is still excited to just "be". I admire her energy and trust.
I am sorry for your loss, Larc. I will send you some light.
I know my little one (Toy Poodle) has borrowed time. She is going blind and wheezes a lot. She is still spry and full of hell, but I see her losing a teenie bit every few months. I can't even imagine being without her.....much love and respect to those who have selflessly allowed their animal companions to pass over when they knew it was time. I honor your courage.

Newagehippy and Larc,
Last week, an older coworker asked me if I would take photos of his dog, Jake, who just happened to be a Lab-Doberman mix. Jake was fifteen and had heart problems and probably wouldn't be around much longer. Jake turned out to be a good old dog. He was so cooperative that his owner and I agreed that he knew why I was there. That made it much more depressing. The photos of Jake in his favorite chair and by his favorite window are probably the best portraits I've ever taken. I am glad to have known Jake. I wish I had a scanner so I could share.

I can't have any pets where I live, so I become very attached to other people's pets. (It even occurs to me that I've never dated anyone who hasn't had a cat or dog.) My thoughts and prayers go out to anyone who loses a pet.
