I have what is known as Degenerative Disc Desease. I've had it since my early 30's. I'm in constant pain. I take medication, but it only helps a little. My doctor says that he's never seen such an advanced case in a woman my age. I had to quit my job last year, it got so bad. I was hoping to find out about crystal or herbal healing. I hate to ask for anything, being the proud Leo that I am, but is there anything that I can do myself or do I need to go to someone who practises this type of healing? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Sunlion,

Having the disease myself, I can give you the info that has has assisted me over the years, and altho I am never pain free, life does go on, and I do not take very many, if any pain prescription pain medicines.

Fortunately the support of herbs and the right diet can relieve much of this pain, which can be crippling.

Antioxidants for Inflammation including vitamin E, can reduce inflammation in connective tissues, joints and muscles. Antioxidants intercept "free radicals," unstable molecules that readily bind to, and aloter or destroy, body cells; the body attacks the altered cells in an attempt to clean up the broken-down tissue, making the inflammation worse. To prevent this, choose an antioxidant rich diet - wheat germ, dark-green leafy vegetables and sunflower and walnut oils are good choices. You should eat yogurt with live cultures, fresh pineapple for its anti-inflammatory enzyme, bromelain; and legumes, deep-sea fish and flaxseed and borage oils for the anti-inflammatory essential fatty acids. Drink plenty of water, and focus on fresh fruits, vegetables and fiber-rich whole foods. However, white potatoes, peppers, tomatoes and eggplant tend to be allergy triggers and may cause joint pain. Also avoid consuming refined sugars, fats and white flours - they increase undesirable bacteria levels and cause constipation which further concetrates the toxins in your system.

Although aspirin and ibuprofin are anti-inflammatories, they also make intestinal walls more permeable so toxins are absorbed more readily. Try flaxseed or evening-primrose supplements instead.

Hi Lady E,
Sorry to hear that you suffer from the same affliction. Believe me, I know the pain you are in! Thank you so much for all the information! I had no idea that antioxidents would help so much. I've never really paid much attention to what I've been eating. I don't take anti inflammatories because they don't help. My doctor gave me a list of exercises, but I hurt twice as much afterwards. It's so frustrating that I can't do the things I used to do. Some days I have to walk with a cane just to get around. I've had everything short of surgery done. I've been trying to avoid that. The last two discs in my lower back have desintegrated and my neck has two that are herniated. I am definitely going to try your suggestions! Thank you again.

Goddess Bless
