This is a tale from another nursing home that I worked in.
There was an old woman who was pushing well into her 100's. I used to go in and sit by her bed and talk to her. I spent many breaks in there with her.
This was long before I wandered back onto the path, so was moving about in the darkness.
I always felt a connection to her, but knew nothing about past lives. She went on one day, to look into my eyes, and begin talking to me like I was someone else. I chalked it up to dementia, but somewhere down deep, I couldn't convince myself of it, because as she'd talk, I could see it, all. I relived it with each tale she told me.
She went on to talk to me about when 'we' were younger. She looked at me, and remembered our rides on the wagon, with the horses into town with 'Ma and Pa'. She talked about a dog we had. The trouble we'd get into, and how we always had each other. She would remenis for hours. Then one day she talked about how we used to go down to the lake fishing, playing in it, she didn't swim, but she always watch me play out in the deepr parts where she couldn't go, and playing on it when it froze over. Then she looked at me, and a tear began to run down her cheek, and cried. She held my hand and I asked her, why are you crying Mary? Because I let you down. I watched you die, and I couldn't do anything to save you because I couldn't swim. I was too scared to learn, and if I had, I could have saved you and you wuld have grown up with me.
When she told me this. I felt so cold. I felt like I was drowning. I 'saw' thru the eyes of a drowning child. I felt my lungs fill with water. This was my first experience with one of my own deaths.
I told her it was ok, that all things happen in our lives, and in our deaths for a reason. I was talking from the present and from the past as well.
The next day she passed on, content that she had made peace with a long lost sister.
I moved on, with a greater understanding of why I am petrified of water over myhead!
