This tale belongs to not myself, primarily, but of a gal I used to work with.
Alot of you from FMP might remember some of this, or at least the gal I worked with.
We have shared a few go rounds of the wheel, but this is from our early time together when first I began walking the path again.
One day, not sure how things were going, I could smell burning. I wasn't sure where this was going. I was still not comfortable talking about my encounters, as I had not grown to trust E yet, totally. There was a comfort there, but trust is something earned in each lifetime.
It kept smelling, and smelling. I could seee flashes of fire. I could see tall grasses. Somwone was running, I was running. Fear filled me, someone was running behind me. I was heading towards a small pond. (what's with me and water?!) Theperson running behind me, was gone. I looked the fire was coming closer. I remember feeling the coolness of the water as I jumped in. I could remember feeling the heat of the flames as the engulfed me. I cuold feel my skin grow hot from the heat of the passing wildfire. I remeber feeling like my lungs were going to burst as I held my breathe under the water, afraid to surface. Fear engulfed me along with sorrow. I stayed in the water until I thoughtit was safe to crawl onto the charred, burnt shoreliine, still hot from the fire that had destroyed everything in it's path. I remember feeling the suols ofmy hands burn as I put them on a still hot spot, but I had to get out. I had to find her. I had to find her. I found her, not far from the water that had saved me. A rock was in her path. She had tripped and fallen, and was over taken by the flames. Burnt. I remeber turning her over, wanting, needing to, see her face. As soon as I touched her body, I knew that energy. It was E. I must have had some terriified look on my face. She wanted to know what had just happened, I asked her if she really wanted to know, because my life's philosophy is don't ask em if yuo realy don't wanna know. She did, so I told her.
E. cannot stand the smell of burning sage, not a good thing for any pagan, lol, especially at ritual time. Now she understood why. Old grasses on the prairies contained alot of wild sage.
From tht point on she made an effort to release the past, and to move forward. Little by little she made peace with sage. One day, she smudged her house, and her soul.
