I don't see a lot of new stuff in this forum, so I wanted to post something. I was always very mature for my age as far as understanding and was constantly frustrated with the world around me and the apparent lack of understanding I saw. I have never shared the thought patterns of those around me and absolutely cannot do something unless I understand why it is being done. It is impossible for me to figure out how to do something if I don't know the reason for it! Until I heard the term "Indigo child" I was confused and alone - except with my husband, another indigo. Now at last I am beginning to understand who I am and why I am the way I am. (hope that wasn't too wordy). I have always been socially awkward and had a difficult time understanding others, but by understanding myself better I can understand the differences between myself and others which in turn allows me to understand them. I still have a long way to go in my quest of understanding, but it helps just to know that there are others out there of the same nature as myself. I trained myself to not be who I truly am and now at last I feel I can be that person.
To me, being Indigo simply means that I am an old soul and am preparing myself for a new level of understanding. It is deeply important to me to pass on whatever knowledge I may gain in this life to everyone who is willing to listen. Not that I believe myself to be wise or uncommonly understanding, but I strive to be these things, even if I fall short. Indigo is something that you feel deep within your being, it resonates in your soul and tells you that you must fulfill your life's work and leave the world better than you found it. It is a feeling of significance, importance, a feeling that you are outside of the world, yet play a significant part in the course that world takes; and at the same time it is a feeling of insignificance, knowledge that you are not the guiding force which motivates the movements and actions taking place within and around you. It would require the course of a book to accurately describe what it really means to be Indigo, but I am very interested in what other Indigos might have to say about the subject.

Very informative, although I'd argue the no new stuff statement.

Sorry, I didn't mean no new stuff in all of the forums, I just don't hear a lot about the other Indigos here. I'm hoping this topic will become more popular as more people realize that they are indigo and as more indigos are born. It's difficult to find other indigos - especially in a predominantly fundamentalist Christian area like I'm from. Hope I didn't come off as pretentious or snobby.  Smile

OK I am a little confused on the subject, but for some reason am feeling a strong pull to ask for more information. I do not know what the  term Indigo means really. I think I understand some from the post, but please explain more.  Confused

Indigo is a reference to the color of ones aura. Many people associate indigo with deep spirituality, so it may be that Indigo individuals are more deeply connected with the spiritual realm. (I, myself, was known for talking about life on the other side as a toddler. "When I lived with god. . ." was my standard way of communicating the past.)

Some believe that Indigo is the next step in human evolution. I think it has more to do with the time we're living in. There is a desperate need for us to understand each other, with the population booming as it is and technology advancing faster than we are able to keep up with it. I also disagree with some estimates that say something like 60% of those in their teens and 20s are indigo and 90% or more of those aged 10 and younger are indigo. I think it's likely much less, but what do I know???

There's a lot of new age stuff out there that says Indigos are meant to take the throne of the Universe, or even that they're aliens sent here to warn the Earth of impending doom and all manor of similar things. I don't believe any of that, though I'm sure there are many who do. Indigo is just a thing. It doesn't mean we're special, or bizarre or absurd or alien, we're just different. While we may have seeming superiority complexes, it only gets out of hand when our parents encourage us to believe we're better than everyone else. We think we need to accomplish great things in life, but shouldn't everyone believe that? How vastly different and better would our world be if everyone believed they were meant to accomplish great things in life?

Another theory about Indigos, as Feronia wrote in her (a goddess right?) original post, is that Indigos are old souls, perhaps on their last round here on earth. Or, similarly, that these are individuals who have reached, or will soon reach, "enlightenment", in this or a past life. . . I think it could also be that these are new souls, on their first round here on earth, and so are bringing a young, fresh spirituality to the planet. One that is untainted by lifetimes lived here on Earth.

Some people also believe there are Crystal children - younger children who share many of the similarities to Indigos, but are even more sensitive (As I understand it anyway) - and in Rainbow Children who are "new souls" and at the peak of spirituality. Indigos are more the fight for what's right type, Crystal and Rainbow children are almost pure soul. Personally, I think these are a bit extreme and I don't really see enough difference to use different names, but again: what do I know???

These things are less important though, IMHO, than what it is like to live as an Indigo - or a Crystal or Rainbow or whatever else you'd like to call it. Indigos are often lonely, they don't feel they are a part of the world, they often form strong attachments to both people and things. Indigos have a strong sense of self-worth and feel they must accomplish great things that they will leave behind for those who come after. For this reason they often work in humanitarian and environmental efforts.

Often Indigos are diagnosed with ADD/ADHD, Asperger Syndrome, and a number of other mental and learning disabilities. (In fact, if you know anything, or can read anything about children with Asperger Syndrome, the characteristics are essentially the same as the characteristics of an Indigo) Here's where I start to really agree with the New Age "experts". It is said that medicating these children will strip them of their spiritual potential, at least as long as they are on the drugs. They will also be prevented from advancing as much as possible because they will not be able to develop as well while they are being medicated. This is truly sad for me because my brothers are both on medications and I see it stopping them from being the beautiful and unique people they could be. I have faith in their strength, but it is distressing.

Indigos are fierce warriors in the battle to build a better world. We want to tear down ineffective and flawed lifestyles and build things anew. We aren't physically violent, but we want to do away with outmoded ideas and build a world based on better beliefs. This often causes us to be misunderstood by the world. Even when we do make friends, we have a difficult time remaining close, or even getting close to them because they just can't seem to understand us. The only exception is when we are able to connect with another Indigo. This is also difficult for us to do because we often don't share details about ourselves with others, but when we do connect with another Indigo it is a strong, deep connection.

Sometimes Indigos are greatly loved by their peers because they seem fearless, strong, motivated and unstoppable. Other times they are hated or ignored because they are too different from those around them. Much of this is probably a matter of the Indigo first perceiving that they are different and therefore can't fit in and then fulfilling that expectation by removing themselves from the group, being shy or just not knowing how to be social.

Wikipedia has some information, but all-in-all takes a skeptical view. It's fine to be skeptical, I was too, but once you know what it means to be Indigo, you know it's real. It's something you experience, it can't be explained. Sort of like a sneeze (but not as icky).

Just for the record, I want to recognize that there are those out there who believe themselves to be Indigo, but really aren't, and there are many Indigos who confuse telling lies, with inventing interesting stories. One of my brothers is known for making up very interesting stories about his life, and has trouble answering questions about what he has just read. (He once said that Johnny Appleseed drank milk. . . naturally, in the story, Johnny Appleseed drank Applejuice, but my brother likes milk, so Johnny Appleseed drank milk that day.) He doesn't think this is lying, he thinks he is a great story teller and often can't seem to tell you what the mundane truth is. He's only 8 and is learning to deal with this quite well. He still hasn't quite grasped the meaning of "lie", but can tell the mundane truth if given time. Indigos should not be encouraged to tell untruths, they need someone to explain the difference to them. Perhaps it is a matter of not understanding what is real and what is fantasy. I don't know.
