I can't wait for this film to come out! I love the concepts the books deal with, the references back to classical literature and the Bible.  If anyone has yet to read them, please do.  Alhough Philip Pullman says he is an atheist, I think more than one person could find pagan leanings in his books.  Angels, other worlds, shamans, animal spirits (daemons), witches and prophesies.  From what little I have seen so far it looks like it will stay fairly true to the books, which is a great thing.

What do other people make of His Dark Materials? Personally I'd find it hard to find another set of books that is so full of beautiful imagery and deep thoughts and yet is so accessible.  I hope the film captures the essence of that.

I loved the story. It was a breath of fresh air. Especially when you have the Chronicals of Narnia, good story but steeped in Catholic symbolism. One series of stories that I have found very well done is the Harry Potter series. Now J.k Rowling presented many theological ideals, she did present the balance and cohesions that we as society can acheive. Pullman did present a good arguement against the over powering theocracy. The film does convey his message but was abit watered down compared to the book but a great film anyway. The cast was very well rounded and performed fantasticly. Any movie that causes people to have dialog and stir the pot of convential thinking is aces in my book.

I started to watch it, but then a friend said it was horrible, so I left it alone.

It was a good movie. I was a little upset by the timeline of the movie to the book, they mixed things up and didn't really put the ending in, but overall worth watching. It's beautiful to see, very well done.

Though they go mad they shall be sane,
Though they sink through the sea
they shall rise again;
Though lovers be lost love shall not;
And death shall have no dominion.
