The Jay

This brightly colored bird has pink and blue feathers much sought after in magical working, and is the source of a number of omens. As with most feather magic, it is, however, important that the feather(s) should be fallen.

When a jay's feather is found then the finder can expect to receive something they have long wanted. A Jay's feather worn in the hat means you will never have empty pockets, but otherwise brought into your house indicates there will never be silence. I sometimes wonder if there's a hidden Jay's feather in my home! A single Jay's feather placed in a small bag together with a piece if Serpentine and hung around the neck will stop excessive nosebleeds. A similar pouch with a Jay's feather and a green stone, such as Malachite or Jade, will attract riches. Although you might like to note that many spells to attract riches do not necessarily bring monetary riches! A signed pink feather carried in the pocket will dispel negative feelings.

On seeing a Jay you should always raise your hat, or otherwise salute it. Two Jays together indicate a romantic meeting, but three or more will indicate a quarrel. Should a Jay cross your path from right to left, something unwanted will be leaving you. If it flies the other way, you should turn around three times to avoid something bad coming. When a Jay hops in front of you, count the number of hops before it flies off: this indicates the number of days before you can expect a visitor.
