A short trip in the woods today searching for walking sticks. Another special one. The pictures now really do not show the staff well. 7 and 1/2 feet of beech. Going to take a while but will be special. 6 weeks to cure at least, bark to be stripped, stones to be placed. This is only the top 2 feet of it.

How cool Sundown, what an unusual and very masculine piece!! I know it will sing! What type of wood is it?? I love the way it crooks and bends!! The wood down here in Louisiana takes on a life of its own doesn't it?
This piece is truly enchanting!!
Thank you for sharing your gift from the Wild Woods with us!

This is American Beech, a very dense, coarse grained, hard wood. This wood used to be used for handles, levers, wagon wheel hubs, etc. It is heavy. As it cures it will lighten up some but will still be a hand full. I expect the finished height to be 7 feet. It was so named by the first person to see it when I brought it to the shop. They looked at it and said it reminded them of Cernunnous. And as usual Lady Elaine is correct. Wood very seldom exhibits gender. However, this one I looked at earlier and thought of "him".
Here are a couple more views, more stripping to do, the top will be a bit difficult. But fun!

Also I took a number of slices off the bottom trimming and these will be the next set of Witches Runes.

It's going to be amazing Sundown...and yes, it does feel like a "he". I always find it interesting how they speak to you. Cerrnunnos is a great name for the satff too...I would ask it as you work with it and see if the name is suitable...it feels right to me, but I haven't handled the piece...Beech is such a beautiful wood...as it begins to come to life, I know it will have a story to tell you!
Thank you for sharing the pics with us, by the way, I love your new camera!!

He is so powerful....it really affected me when I saw the pictures....all I can say is that it is going to take a special person to handle the energies of this beautiful piece! Wow.....
Thanks again for sharing such a personal and wonderful part of yourself and the magickal world with us!!

I look at it and sometimes think I will keep it for myself. But, in my heart I know it is destined to go elsewhere. Anyway, nothing can replace my Oak Staff. When this staff is ready it will let me know, maybe tomorrow, maybe next year.

Slowly, slowly yet coming along, so much to do. The horns are ready to mount, looking for the proper silver wire for wrapping, so many visions, so many thoughts. How it will come out is still a mystery to me. But that is the joy, to see the finish, and it is not what I orginally thought
