Oh to have the much room to grow so much!!!

I to love to garden, yet space is limited, though We do have a bit more then many of the people in the neighborhood. Plus I can look out the backyard into a large pasture and is the new born calves.  Very Happy  I do have chickens and their coop takes up space. But I sure do pack in as much as I can!! Weather willing this weekend we are going to till the garden, My once pretty flowerbeds, though not every useful, is now herbs. This drives my neighbor nuts thinking I've allowed weeds to take over. lol She knows some aren't but thistle isn't one.

Having children  help in the care of the gardens also is great for homeschooling. Science and P.E. all in one!

Good grief!!! Sounds like you have umpteen acres. The time it must take to tend such a huge garden!!!

sounds wonderful though!

I just put in my seed order for this year for the vegetable garden.  It's snowing outside, everything is white, the sky is grey, and I find myself lustfully daydreaming about green growing things!  It's like meeting old friends when the green shoots start coming up.  I can't wait!

This year I'm going to concentrate on nourishing herbals.  I'm going to buy some nettles seeds and see how they do along the tiny stream that runs through our  4 acre pasture, along with the peppermint, vervain and mullien.  I want to encourage my chick weed patch to expand as well as the wood violet patch.  The plantains and the wild strawberries do well all by themselves.  Oh, I miss them so much!

I love gardening myself but the weather is so harsh and it makes it very hard to grow lovely veg etc.  I do grow some herbs, put in flowers etc.  But have to watch the water use.  I wish to live somewhere one day that I can have the vegie gardens I use to grow out on the coast.

Probably the thing i miss most being in a college residence is my herb garden.  Back in my parent's home every summer I had the entire area between the front walkway and garage spilling over with various herbs, there were always herbs in various stages of drying or dried in the kitchen, and even in the winter we'd take a chunk of the herbs from the garden and put em in pots so that we could have herbs fresh all winter long.  I've just decided that I can't survive without some potted herbs, and have planted a modest spearmint, oregano, thyme, and garlic chives in addition to a noni tree and some "balcony charm" tomatoes in pots in my window sill.  I'm feeling lots of good energy coming from the oregano, thyme and chives... but it's gonna be a while yet before I start seeing shoots... and heck I'll be back at my parent's house before they become usable... oh well, just having a little patch of green in this urban atmosphere will be a welcome change!

I'm not crazy, it's just that I enjoy talking to the trees and singing to the moon...
