I just got off the phone with my mom and she told me neither peppers or tomatoes will do anything in a pot, you have to plant them directly in the ground.  I am not doing anything to that yard until I get the ants under control.  She also said it was to late to start vegetables from seeds and I don't know where to go here to get live plants.  Guess I'll just get some flower seeds from dollar store and hope they do ok.    Because like I said even if I did know how to get to wal-mart to buy live plants I am not digging in that yard.  And if I order some nematodes from Guerny's today they'll still take 6 weeks to get here.  I tried to look up the nursery in Peach tree and apparently they specialize in big trees.  I guess I'll just have to stick to flowers and herbs.  Herbs will grow in a container, right?

Uh I hate to argue with Mom, but dirt is dirt!!!

Granted they require more vigilant care as they dry out faster, but there are many smaller varieties of plants for patio garden, ie potted gardens.

I have grown some delicious maters out of pots, and carrots, and radishes, and peppers, and, wel ya get the jist.

check with your garden center, they'll point to the right varities for you.

Agree with you Novia, I grew heaps last year out of pots.  My smallest child and I had carrots, tomatos, spinach, corn, zucchini along with herbs growing in all different size pots.  Like Novia said you just need to be up on the water and keep them well feed.  I put mulch around the plants ( not touching the stalks) when they got up aways so it helped with the moisture.  But we had some nice things come up.  Carrots ended up being baby carrots, but were great anyway.

I grow all my tomatoes and peppers in pots..always have...in fact all my mints are in pots as well...everyone is right. Attention is the key, make suire they are protected when it is extremely hot out with water and fertilize them regularly....when I lived in an apratment, I had a balcony garden that would produce tons of produce...enough that I gave away some!

thanks all.  I'll go get some potting soil and big pots from the dollar store tomorrow.  I was planning to do it today but no sooner had I got home and put up my groceries than it started to rain.  (Had frozen stuff so I didn't want to stop by there first.)
