Make sure you are in a comfortable position with no distractions around you. Take care that you have no prior commitments besides meditation.
Relax your body…
Imagine yourself sitting in the middle of a field. This field is surrounded by a pine forest on all sides, but is very large and filled with grasses and sweet smelling flowers. The sun is warm and comforting and there is a slight breeze that brushes through your hair. Feel the beauty of the environment envelope you and know that you are a part of it.
Now, imagine that a great tap root like that of a tree is descending into the earth from your root chakra (okay, from your bum) into the earth. Feel the root as it goes into the rich, dark soil and expands. It continues through the sand and clay, through the bedrock and all the layers of the crust of the earth. Imagine it pushing its way through the mantle and into the core of the earth. Draw energy from all these sections of the earth, especially the core, up through the root and into every ounce of your body. Feel the energy vibrate within you. You are now rooted to the earth. Notice how your body feels. You can move around, yet you feel as much a piece of the earth as the soil itself.
As you sit in this field, notice that you are at ease with yourself, with your place, with the world around you. You are perfectly centered between the earth and the universe. The great sky above you is a part of the atmosphere that you breathe and you know that no matter where you are on the earth, the earth’s core is directly beneath you. Stay in this place for a while, and let the energies of the earth and sky empower and ground you.
When you are ready to come back, simply draw the root back into your body and become aware of your breathing and your physical sensations. Slowly open your eyes and rest for a bit before continuing on your daily life. Don’t forget to drink some water.
