Sometimes we must find unique ways to meditate, especially on days when it is hard to make our brain function enough to get dressed, let alone work on spiritual matters! This meditation utilizes your morning cup of coffee. As people of alternate belief systems, we Pagans tend to look at the world from a magickal point of view, so even our mundane, morning cup o’ joe can become a mystical, magical journey into oneness with the universe. Bear with me, it will make more sense. (Or you will come away with it thinking I relish my morning java a little TOO much!)
Prepare your coffee (some of us add the extra kick with a shot of chocolate syrup). It is best to put it in a thick mug that you can hold in your hands and sit at a table where you can rest your arms. (This way you won’t accidentally spill the coffee all over yourself.)
Relax your body and your mind. Hold your mug as best you can in both hands and close your eyes. Imagine that your coffee is a golden liquid filled with energy and light. In your mind’s eye, watch as it sparkles and gleams and beckons you to drink it. Taking a deep, cleansing breath, inhale the vapor from the golden potion. The scent alerts your senses and begins to make your body ready to accept the energy. Slowly, take the first sip. Hold it for a moment in your mouth and feel the taste. Visualize this golden liquid, glowing inside of your mouth, and as you swallow, feel the warmth and see the golden glow slowly flow down inside your chest and into your stomach. Let the golden light expand out from your stomach area down your legs and into your feet. Then, let it come up into your torso, shoulders, back and arms. Imagine it flowing gently over your neck, head and face. Now, as the golden liquid flows throughout your body, feel the energy completely envelope you. Let this energy burn out any tiredness or weary muscles. Any tendency to procrastinate, put-off or become melancholy are absorbed by the energy and changed into a moving, motivating, positive light. You feel as though you can accomplish anything today. Stay with this feeling as long as you please, and then when you are ready to “awaken”, begin to notice your breathing. Become aware of your physical surroundings. Open your eyes. Enjoy the rest of your coffee before moving into your day.
