Okay, sorry for not writing a post in over a few months. I've been very busy and such.

So, the landlord came over the other day and told me that he wanted to speak with my roommate (because he never talks to me). He told me that we might have to move soon because someone was interested in buying the house (I'm currently renting a room for $160 a week).

Kiel tells me the next day that he wants us to move out by the end of the week. Even though we are going to be relocated, I don't know where this new place is or how safe the neighborhood is. I don't know if this is "illegal" or not. Technically, we're paying on a weekly basis, but the landlord only comes every two months! It took six months for the fridge in the kitchen to start working, and the bathtub hasn't worked since November (we're forced to only take showers!). Despite this, I thought it was better than living with Kiel's parents.

Kiel, however, doesn't seem to care whether or not this is an illegal eviction. He thinks it's ok because the fact that he is renting out rooms is illegal. The thing is, I don't have many options. I don't have a job (he has been paying off the rent), and he doesn't intend on moving with me. So unless he is going to pay for my rent, or unless I can come up with a huge amount of money soon, then I am screwed. I might have to live in a homeless shelter. I am not sure.

He doesn't seem to want to listen. He has been acting paranoid and insecure as of late, mainly in part because of my interest in a new guy (Kiel and I broke up in March). Even though we've denied doing anything, he insists on this pile of nonexistent evidence.

I don't know what to do. If someone can give me advice, or pray for me, that would be appeciated!

Well if you are only renting, and have no written contract, then he can pretty much do as he wishes.

If your landlord is illegally renting the rooms there is no illegal eviction. It sounds as if the place where you are living isn't the greatest and perhaps you will be moved into a better space! Think on the bright side, you may have appliances that work and a place to have a bath!

Why don't you wait and see where you are being relocated....and then work from there...thinking about all the negative things that can happen will only make it so.

Be strong.

Ok...so I moved in. The place is smaller, but since I'm the only one there, it's fine. The neighborhood I'm not terribly familiar with (although most of Brooklyn looks ridiculously the same!), but it's not too bad. I'm looking at it as if I'm starting fresh. Also, my exroommate is paying for my rent until I can get on my feet. Rent is only $110, which isn't too bad. And another friend is helping me out with groceries. How good it is to buy real food and not sherbet and subway sandwiches all the time!

$110, a month? Can I move my oldest there!

Shit, she's paying $550 a month for a one bedroom middle of the slum hood, water tank leaking joint that onw has mildew issues after the heavy rains we had backed up the drain system and she's  a basement apartment to boot and deals with strange, and I do mean 'strange' people peeking in her windows as the puff on their crack pipes, place! And oj hell no don't even think of alking anywhere after dark, unless you got a 12 gauge and a big bad ass dog!  Laughing  Mad

I'm glad the new beginning is going to a good one!

Congrats!

Dang, Novia!  That sounds like a lovely place.  Shocked  Yeah, we're paying too much, too.  And there have been people held up at gunpoint in front of their apartments lately.

MsZaari, I'm glad it didn't turn out badly for you.  Having to shift gears like that unexpectly can really be scary.  I know, I always freak out first and ask questions later, myself.  But, it never turns out as badly as I thought it would.  Isn't life great? Smile
