I don't know if I mentioned it here, but if I did, I'm sure it was nearly two years ago.

Since the spring of 2006, I have been working on a novel, titled Draven Adonihs. The story starts off with how his parents met. This will be a bit like Pride and Prejudice (kind of). In my mind, I see the 1920s, set in New York City. So the settings will be in a city, like NYC but not exactly, with the 20s feel, but it will be contemporary as well (but not too modern, no mentions of iPods or Blackberries here!).

And yes, it will be a book on magick. Someone told me it will be the book that fills in the void that Harry Potter left. Which is good, but I don't want the book to be like HP. For one, there will be no school of wizardry. A good chunk of the book will have magickal elements, but there will be psychological elements as well. For instance, Draven's father's parents were killed when he was a teenager, and as a result, he became a womanizer, etc.

That being said, if any of you can lend me your expertise, it will be greatly appreciated! I will also include you in the dedication page!

I think we would all be happy to give you some different opinions and perspectives, but it might be helpful to be more specific.  Maybe as you run into a bit of writer's block or aren't certain of how to write a particular situation, we could help.  So far, your setting sounds interesting.

As of now, the child (Draven) is 5 years old and has started school (there's a debate on whether he should be sent to a private school vs. public, but they settled on public). There's a kid at the school who is bullying him for no apparent reason (I don't know whether there should be a reason or not, if it would add to the story). After months of bullying, Draven's powers start to kick in, but they're a bit unruly. One day, this kid gets "swallowed" up by the earth at school (or something major to that affect). The teacher is also a witch, and she manages to clean up the mess (I'm thinking), and has a parent/teacher conference.

Sounds good.  I am working on few books myself.  One is about an indigo child who is born with some psychic abilities.
