This is the true glamour, the true illusion. Staying still in one spot will not make you invisible to an all too human monster. But moving to so-called 'safe' spots doesn't work either. Because time truly erodes all things and one of these things are certain people's hearts. I've talked with a man who worked in the state health department and had seen into the very depths of man-made hell. He pointed out something that truly differs us from the animals; we are the only species that can and usually does, create it's own monsters.
It's in their genes is the biggest lie ever, with the possible exception of 'civilization'-an illusion so layered and detailed that only ones cast by the Sidhe could ever hope to compare. We walk on such thin edges our whole lives and so few of us know it. The price we pay for this innocence is steep, but still many of us pay for it willingly. The people who purport to work for justice are the same ones handing deals to pedophiles to turn in state's evidence to their bigger criminal associates. Indeed, I dislike this habit of labeling a monster who indulges in such things. It implies illness, sickness...something that can and should be helped. It's the children who are victims of such people who should be helped, though such is rarely thought of by those in charge.
One child is made from a mothers body, and others become another mother's child because that mother opened her arms, held them, and never let go until it was asked of them by said child and at the right time. True heroes are those who do the right thing even if the people or the law deem it 'wrong' Your heart knows better. So does your spirit. The more you do for those you call blood, the healthier your heart and soul will be.
It is a fantastical human gift to be able to be many different things at once. Likely because we usually excel at adaptation and have to be many different things at once. Woman, man, lover, mother, child, sister, brother, friend, sage, warrior, strong, soft, passionate, thoughtful. Somehow, we juggle this load. Somehow we move forward and sometimes survive even the monsters-though never without scars. It is simply that some show, while others do not. The ones on the inside tear open easier, I've noticed.
But still I am the springtime in human form, walking strong with youth's vigorous sap, laughter dancing in my eyes and growing things falling from my fingertips. Still I am the summertime, passionate and warm, temperamental and stormy, radiating heat and maturity from my very skin. Still am I autumn, gray touching my hair, smelling of crisp, new-turned leaves, eyes wiser, quieter, with smiles tucked in around the corners, loving, yet cool of mind, and sometimes, someone's mother. And still am I winter, the old woman by the cold, cold sea. Laughing a laugh rich in life and rueful experience, wrinkles testament of my trials and age showing through my eyes. A thousand and one memories drifting from my white hair in flakes, falling to the ground to share with the world.
The world is beautiful and green. The people in it can be hard, without heart, without conscience. Making more and more monsters to carry of the dark cycle in that world of midnight. But as long as we are out there, carrying our many selves, the seasons, and the ability to stand back, strategize, observe, and most of all, care-
light will always shine through the window.
