Don't know yet if I'm going to hit the submit key...
Last month I got laid off.  That job didn't pay much, I know financially I really didn't need it, but you know, it really helped me a lot physically, mentally, socially, probably a lot of other things.
Part of me feels so stupid, I know the company was going thru hard times and here I was trying to make my manager feel better after having to lay me off.  Then I find out I was lied to, and my junior is doing my job this winter.  I know that she definitely needs the money more than I do, but couldn't they tell me this instead of lying to me??
And to top the whole thing off, this junior is running around, asking me to show her how to do my job, then the last thing she said to me was if I wanted to stay on a few more days, she was sure that she could find some work for me to do.  I left immediately after that remark.
This obviously is affecting me more than I realize.  The other day, I burst into tears, in front of my children.   My manager, finding out I was upset, offered me a winter position again, should have made me feel better, but it didn't.  My co-workers are shocked that I will never step thru that company doors again. Left reference books there that I can't bring myself to go pick-up.
I'm meditating on a daily basis, have the time to do it now.  I'm also immersing myself more into the family and will start some exercise classes in a couple of weeks.  I know I'll get another job in the spring, if I want one, but sure hope this feeling will go away quickly..

I'm sorry that you are having to go through this situation, marigold.  You have a right to be upset and to feel the way that you do.  Let yourself go through those emotions without feeling guilty for experiencing them.  They will subside to a great extent in their own in time.
My suggestion?  Don't leave your reference books there.  They were an investment which may benefit you later and they belong to you.  Don't donate them to this place.  Walk in unannounced and let them know, nicely, that you would like to collect the belongings that you left behind as you are in need of them elsewhere.  (Even if you really don't have a need for them, let them think it.)

No doubt, if they are yours go get them.

We attach ourselves to the craziest things don't we, lol. not the books, but the job, and I'm sure the people in it. Giving yourself a 'perpose', whcih I'm sure you have anyways, but sometimes, I know I'm guilty here, without some plausable something outside our homes, we feel inferioir. We have to show the world, ouside our house, we can do it, we can make it. Hun, take fromone just as guilty.

WE ARE GOOD!!! WE ARE PURPOSEFUL. WE GOOTA LUV OURSELF NO MATTER WHERE WE ARE AT AND WHAT WE ARE DOING!!!!

Ok, climbing off my soapbox now!

Enjoy your new life until it is time for you to step back out again into it!

Thanks everybody!  I feel better already and it felt so good to get it all off my chest.  Besides hurt feelings, I think you hit it bang on, Novia.  I know I was way too attached to that job, and I think that I'm  not being appreciated enough if I'm a stay at home mom.  So, I'll make sure that the housework doesn't automatically all get dumped on me. I'll be too busy.
Besides the exercise classes, I always felt a pull towards the soup kitchen.  I usually donate extra garden veggies there.  Maybe they could use me a morning or 2 a week.
One of my friends who still work there, can go in and get my books for me.  Still not going back there though.

The way your coworkers treated you is a reflection of them, not a comment on your worth.  You were attached to people who do not deserve you, their condescending treatment of you (laying you off, then asking for help, then offering to let you stay on a few more days !?!) is a huge testament of their lack of respect.  Get your books back in whatever way is comfortable for you!  Why leave them a gift?

Don't feel bad about getting emotional in front of your children.  It's a good way to let them know life isn't fair, and it's ok to feel bad about something that hurt you.  You are teaching them how to deal with life's unpleasantness.  Don't stop there though, as you find  new activities make sure they understand that your lay-off was an opportunity-in-disguise and share your excitement with them as you find new things to do.

Good luck, Marigold.  Keep your eyes on the horizon, who knows what marvelous adventures await you there!
