Can anyone define chaos magic for me?   I can't seem to find a simple explanation that I can understand.   Just a one or two sentence definition, or an example maybe.

Not neat and orderly, but exactly what it says, chaotic.

using not 'magick' per se, but using the chaotic energies fo the universe to accomplish magick. Choas magick follows no tradition nor is it influenced by culture. A chaos magician will take all the info he has gathered from many areas/traditions, cast all the pom and circumstance aside, and do as he needs to do.

Geenrally a chaos magician follows no creed, such as the rule of 3, or harm ye none. Some are far left, near self destruct, and others will tend to allow some credance of sanity into their chaos.

While most will tend to make order out of chaos, chaos magians do it Bass Ackwards and make chaos out of order.

Rainbells, you do onto seem the chaos type, my dear little one, so why pray tell are you devling into such materials?

Novia, I am just curious about it.  I am sort of a  a Wiccan, a little bit of  a Witch,  I think Jesus was an admirable man, I admire Mary for her obedience to Divinity, I think God is neither male nor female,  I pray to angels and guides, and I think Jewish prayers are beautiful, was raised a Catholic and still love the ritual of a Catholic Mass.  So I have been wondering if the magic that I do, which incorporates all these things that I am, is  chaos magick,  because it doesn't follow one particular tradition, and because I will do whatever works, as long as I don't hurt anyone else.     I am still confused about what chaos magick is, but after reading the piece Lady Elaine recommended, I am pretty sure that I don't practice it.

Strictly from my own contemplations of the subject, and from no corresponding research (in true chaotic style?), I've come to know chaos magick as the opposite of light magick. Where light magick would use illumination and understanding to alter perception within one's self to achieve desired change, chaos magick would utilize the dark, unsure corners of another (from with-out) against them, confusing them, using their self-doubt to achieve desired results or profiting off one's weaknesses, etc., to swirl energies into a clusterfuck of confusion with no outlet to ground these energies, for the benefit of the magician. In another contrast, light magick will dynamically align surrounding energies into a synergistic configuration, where the sum of the energies amount to more than just the individual pieces are worth.

This is just my own understanding, from my travels with the light and chaos dragons. Thought I'd throw in the 2 cents.

I had to come back to add to this...

I would also consider chaos an imbalanced magick focused through one element, as opposed to a balanced magick which would consider and utilize all elements, the difference between the Devil's work and God's, and destruction as opposed to creation.

I know I am still considered new around here but I have discovered much of my own magic in the ways of the solitary druid.  From my experience and personal meditation, any magic that does not follow a strict dogmatic practice is chaotic in nature.

By this definition, my magic is chaotic.  Salves and potions are made from knowledge of the tree, flower, and herbs going into them, not from some written recipe.

As for actual spells, calling the four elements is the only aspect that is required; after which, the spell is formed by actions, words, and elements that 'feel' right.  This concept has yet to fail me and ensures that I am harming none.  To date, this practice has healed myself and others (including animals), removed unfriendly spirits from my house, and brought me animal guardians while wandering the wilderness for extended periods of time.

For the record, this view of magic (or magick if you prefer) is why I do not classify myself as Wiccan.  Wicca requires all the pomp and circumstance that is not really needed.  All that is needed is belief; if you have belief whatever items are at hand work just fine.  Besides, dried weeds and vodka are rarely in short supply.  Very Happy

"......any magic that does not follow a strict dogmatic practice is chaotic in nature."       I think it was this sort of thing that was confusing me.  That is the way I felt, too.   RealEyez, you explained it well, although you are so erudite I had to read your post  a few times to understand  Laughing     I use a little of everything I know, and have sort of developed my own style, but I never rely on dark energies, and I would never knowingly hurt anyone or force anyone to go against their own will, even for healing.  I had figured out that chaos magick was  dangerous, and that is what was bothering me, I don't need any more danger in my life, so now I guess I can go back to calling myself an eclectic pagan, which is what I always thought I was until I read about chaos magick, and didn't understand what it was.   A little knowledge is a dangerous thing, I guess.    Thanks for your help, everyone.
