In Recognition of a Master Spellcaster - an Ode to George Carlin

Intentions, a platform, courage and drive,
a magician wills the sleeping alive.

words can lull, and swoop, and swoooooooon,
and STOP. too soon.
and paaaaaaaauuuse...wait for it...
thinking...thinking...then a chuckle, a hint
of laughter, recognition,
ephiphany - submission!
like puddy in his hands - teach us more, truthsayer,
mold us with light in your nutrient-rich lair
and return us freely to the dark reflections of our mind
with the gift of a new wisdom lantern to shine.

The piper can free us from the prison of time
with mastery of spoken rhetoric, rhythm, and rhyme.

The truths he spoke brought me alive in my earlier days. Thank you so much for this tribute to a man who was nearly always ahead of his times.

George Carlin was a gift to us all--if we dared open it.  He had a way of showing us the hyprocrisy in society and ourselves.  I always felt like he was speaking directly to me and for me.  I don't usually mourn too much when celebrities leave us, but I truly miss George.  You speak very well for those who loved this great man.  Thank you.

I recently learned he spent years refining his craft...even in his earliest, clean-cut days, he knew the value of every aspect of language - not just word choice, but melodic delivery of a message, like a spoken song, counter-culture observations crafted to be well-received by his audience (who was mostly submerged in the American mainstream, just by living here). Master of his medium.  He grew up listening to radio - probably at the pinnacle of the art of spoken communication, where the package and method used to deliver messages could make or break an audience, for the first time on a mass-scale - a big deal to early 20th century commercialism. No flashy clip-art to bombard your attention here - just the raw voice, and it had to grab the ear of the common American.  

He spent his whole career tweaking his first inkling, his childhood influences, that a message could be communicated so skillfully as to light realizations where there were none before. what more proof does one need that language, when used so masterfully, can manipulate the energies that surround us? that, to me, is real magic - real, observable, tangible, functional magic. I've never had more hope in spellwork than I do now, thanks to men like Carlin and (Bill) Hicks, who took their lifetime to show us how it works.
