Is This The End Of Suburbia?
Written by Misty-Eve
Monday, 16 March 2009

I watched an interesting movie called The End of Suburbia, about the changes that are coming as a result of our nearness to the end of the world's oil and gas resources.

They said we will be feeling a huge pinch very soon.  It has been predicted that the average price of gasoline, here in the USA, will become outrageous.  We can only expect the price to increase as the supply decreases!  Our countries will soon be scrambling over the scraps that are left.  This is why the war in the middle east… fighting over who has the rights to the remaining scraps.  The movie projected that we would always be in a war somewhere because of this dwindling resource – for the rest of this lifetime.

The scientists on the film showed evidence of why the end of our oil reserves and remaining underground supply would totally disappear by 2010-2012, and said this would cause a major restructuring of our society.  The suburbs of today will be so far removed from places where crops can be grown and goods exchanged that they will become ghost towns, and suburban real estate will become impossible to sell.  They also predicted that rural communities would become much more important places for living and working.  Buying locally will become a necessity.  The price of land in the country would sky-rocket as those in the crowded cities begin to scramble to get out of their impossible situation.

All those things that are made from oil will become un-make-able and we’ll have to go back to natural products.  Heating and cooking will have to be done some other way besides with propane or electricity.  Our electric needs will have to come from sources that don’t require gas or oil for their making.  Goods that are trucked in now, will no longer be available for us.  Commuting very far to work will become impossible.

The way we are living and consuming now will change, down-sizing at first, and then changing totally into something else… a new way of life… closer to the Earth.  Local farming, and local gardening will be a must as large production will become impossible because of the fuel farm equipment needs.  Private gardening and animal husbandry will become a necessity.

I took a Earth Sciences course in college about 20 years ago which was taught by a retired NASA consultant, who told the class back then that we had already used up so much of the Earth’s resources and polluted the planet to the point where it was going to take a miracle to get us out of the coming disaster.  But, he said, don’t rule out miracles because mankind always seems to find a way.

God doesn’t close a door without opening a window, however.  As I see it, we have about 2 years to prepare before the catastrophe becomes known world-wide and the scramble begins on a personal level.

You’ll need to develop a trade that you can do with your own two hands, something you can use to barter for other goods.  You’ll need to learn gardening and animal husbandry.  You’ll need to learn to get by without electricity, propane and gasoline.

Now is the time to prepare!

This is the time to be guided by what we Believe to be true, and how much we've learned to tune into and Obey our inner guidance system.

What do you believe?

Have you been feeling the urge to leave the city and move away from large populated areas?
Is your inner guidance telling YOU to find a place in the country, or in a small town?
Have you begun to wonder about the benefits of tribal living?

Are you one of the Wise One's who obey their inner guidance system?

Will you liberate yourself from the confines of the crowded city?
Or will you, one day, discover that you have stayed in the suburbs - until it’s too late?

It’s worth thinking about…

CHALLENGE:  SEEING CRISES AS OPPORTUNITY
~ by Peter Russell

"When a seed -- or an animal -- or a man is ripe, it must mature to its next phase. Or rot..."
~ Stewart Edward White

The various environmental, economic, and social problems confronting us are symptomatic of a deeper underlying crisis -- a crisis in our thinking, perception, and values.

This crisis has been coming for a long time. Its seeds were sown some fifty thousand years ago, when Homo sapiens, the creature with an enlarged neocortex, began to use its complex brain in new ways. Something different was walking on the Earth -- a species whose future was determined not by its genes so much as by its ideas. A species that could begin to understand the Universe in which it found itself. A species with unprecedented creativity. So new were these developments that some anthropologists gave this species a new name, Homo sapiens sapiens, the “wise human being”

Quite naturally we turned our new capacities to the creation of a better world for ourselves. A world in which food was plentiful and available all year round. A world in which we could protect ourselves from cold and rain. A world in which disease did not strike us so young or so often. A world in which we could live longer and more fulfilling lives.

We set out with the best of intentions: to reduce suffering and be more at peace. But unwittingly we fell into assuming that the inner needs we were now experiencing could be met in the same way as our physical needs -- through having or doing the right things. Not realizing that true peace could be found within ourselves, we became seduced by the material world and by all its fruits.

The consequences of this error were at first benign. Only later, as our tools grew more powerful, did problems appear. For not only did technology amplify our ability to satisfy our physical needs, it also amplified our ability to satisfy our psychological needs. Our burden on the world rapidly increased, and suddenly we found ourselves a threat to millions of species -- including ourselves.

Seeing the writing on the wall, we have begun awakening to our responsibilities, both for what we have done, and for what we should do. But then, at the very time we most need to change, we find ourselves unable to let go. Clinging to our many comforts, we seem unwilling to bear the modest discomforts that would enhance our chances of survival. Too many people seem to prefer to risk annihilation rather than give up their beliefs and attachments.

So we stand by, watching the living Earth erode, and wonder how humanity could continue to be so crazy.

The crisis that has been brewing for millennia is upon us.

Crises as Drivers

Crises are generally seen as undesirable; they imply danger and potential misfortune. There are good reasons for this. A crisis is a sign that the old ways are no longer working, and something new is being called for. In such times there can be very real danger; if appropriate responses are not made rapidly, then the old order may begin to collapse.

This is all too possible with humanity today. If we do not address the deeper spiritual issues underlying the many problems we face, it is very likely that civilization will fall apart.

On the other hand, any crisis, big or small, personal or planetary, also presents an opportunity -- something the ancient Chinese seemed well aware of. Their word for crisis, wei-chi, is written as a combination of two characters, one meaning “danger,” the other “opportunity.” The opportunity may not always be easy to see, but it is always there. It is the chance to remedy what is wrong and move on to a new way of being.

In this respect crises are a challenge -- the challenge to recognize what is no longer working and seize the opportunity to learn, make changes, and progress. As such, crises can play a crucial role in evolution.

Evolutionary Crises

In the previous chapter we considered the early planetary crisis that occurred as simple bacteria began running short of food -- the first of many food crises. The response to this crisis was a new way of obtaining energy -- photosynthesis.

Over the next billion-and-a-half years oxygen -- the “poisonous” by-product of photosynthesis -- accumulated in the atmosphere, until eventually it threatened to extinguish life on Earth. Life responded to this crisis with a new type of organism, one that could feed on oxygen.

Later, as cells grew larger, they faced a different sort of food crisis. If a cell’s diameter doubled, its surface area quadrupled while its volume increased eightfold. To keep this larger volume fed, the cell’s walls had to absorb nutrients twice as fast. The larger cells grew, the more difficult it became for them to feed themselves. Another crisis, another danger, and another sign that something new was called for. The response this time was the multicellular organism -- cells stayed the same size, but the organism of which they were part was free to grow.

Today, life on Earth has arrived at another crisis. The values that have guided the human species throughout most of its development are no longer working. Preservation of the self may have been very valuable in prehistoric times. It may also have been valuable when the world was a collection of independent communities and states -- although, even then, self-centeredness among those in power often led to greed, exploitation, and corruption. But today such values have become extremely dangerous. Directing powerful technologies with a global reach, they spell disaster.

Once again the old way -- in this case, our mode of consciousness -- is no longer working. Once again a new way is being called for.

The Opportunity

This is the real opportunity nestling within our global crisis: the opportunity to develop a new mode of consciousness -- a new way of seeing, and a new way of thinking. This could be the new evolutionary adaptation waiting to emerge. Not, as we have seen, a biological adaptation -- there is no time for that, and even if we could genetically re-engineer ourselves, it would not hit at the heart of the problem. What the crisis is driving us towards is inner change -- a transformation into truly wise human beings, no longer fettered by self-centeredness.

It is driving us towards a new perception of ourselves; a new sense of purpose; a new way of being. We are being forced to awaken from our dream.

WHAT DO YOU EXPECT?

"You may be good, but what are you good for? You’ve got to be good for something. You’ve got to be about some project, some task that requires you to be humble and obedient to the universal principles of service."
~ Stephen R. Covey

"We had to learn ourselves, and furthermore we had to teach the despairing men, that it did not matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life but instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life, daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and medication, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for the individual."
~ Victor Frankl

"If you think you're too small to have an impact, try going to bed with a mosquito in the room."

LIBERATED: QUOTES OF THE DAY

“There are times when you have to obey a call which is the highest of all, i.e. the voice of conscience even though such obedience may cost many a bitter tear, and even more, separation from friends, from family, from the state to which you may belong, from all that you have held as dear as life itself.  For this obedience is the law of our being.
~ Mahatma Gandhi

"The white man does not obey the Great Spirit; this is why the Indians never could agree with him."
~ Flying Hawk, Oglala Lakota

SHIFTING CONSCIOUSNESS

"The world we are experiencing today is the result of our collective consciousness, and if we want a new world, each of us must start taking responsibility for helping create it."
~ Rosemary Fillmore Rhea

Below are several levels of consciousness that clearly outline a path for our evolving consciousness:
- mass consciousness - one obeys the group and lives by trial and error
- individual consciousness - one develops a stronger sense of self and ego
- seeker’s consciousness - one asks questions and seeks independence
- intuitive consciousness - one develops the heart and is becoming spiritually aware
- tribal or group consciousness - one serves a higher good filling the needs of others
- soul consciousness - one experiences spiritual service.

On which level do you spend most of your time? What are you doing to shift to the next level of being?
There are as many paths to understanding, awareness, peace, freedom, love and meaningful service as there are people. Enjoy your journey!

"Consciousness is not just some by-product of the human brain mass. Consciousness is all pervasive. It is in everything and is everywhere. Your individual human consciousness exists within and is a part of a universal consciousness."
~ Delfin Knowledge System

"God acts in history: that is, God provides ideas, methods, and experiences intended to bring comprehension to man, an understanding heart, a conscious life."

PISCES: “I BELIEVE”
3rd Influence: "LIBERATION"

March 11th - March 20th

iberation is a great need for the natives of this birth sign. Piscean people are given to bondage of various forms: physical, mental, and operational. We see this in the glyph of Pisces in the cord that binds two fish together. This symbolizes the need for Piscean people to liberate themselves from the bonds that they themselves have forged. It also reflects the need for all of us, as people living in a world largely formed of the bondage values of the Piscean Age, to liberate ourselves from the shackles of archaic cultural restraints. Let us consider then, in this decan of Pisces, all the things that serve to keep people in bondage. Let us all look within ourselves to find the means of seeking the freedom that we must have in order to develop from the Piscean Larvae to the Aquarian Butterfly.

Consider the things that shackle our bodies and prevent us from freely using them as a useful medium to enable us to move upward. We should consider too, the mental cages in which we allow ourselves to be locked, the iron masks of ideas which prevent our minds from becoming liberated and soaring into the realms of the mental world where true reality is found, and where our minds run free.

We must consider the operational harnesses which ourselves and others may have buckled upon us. These things prevent us from functioning freely. We must be free. Free from all things that prevent our freedom of thought and action.

Let us consider all these things that keep ourselves and others in bondage. Then let us unite together in compassion and kindness, and work actively together to free ourselves and others from these cultural bonds.
