Hey does anyone know when the bride and groom are supossed to cut the wedding cake? (dance) After the church ceramonyt there is going to be a sit down supper for 100 people and then there is going to be a party for everyone.  So do we wait until after the dinner or how does that go?  Need a little info here. *S*  I am wishing it was a Pagan ceramony *LOL*   (thinking)

hmmmm

I think it depends on how the dinner is going to be done?  Is it going to be at a restaurant then going somewhere else for the party?  Or is everything going to be held in the same room?  If it's the same room I'd say do it after everyone's eaten. That's just my thought.  Or, personal opinion here, you could have them cut the cake after everyone's seated for dinner then have the cake served as the dessert.   Just an idea mind you.

I'm sure there is some etiquette book somewhere on what is done and in what order, but all that I have attended and at my daughter's, once the wedding party all arrives at the reception, the bride and groom cut the cake, toast with the champaign or punch, then everyone else can dig into the cake, punch and other refreshments.  They usually cut the bride's cake, toast with whatever beverage, cut the groom's cake, and then the feast is on.

I would assume you'd all eat first, as that is usually how you'd do it.  Of course, my first wedding was very much "homestyle" and my second marriage had no ceremony whatsoever.  I don't know the first thing about ettiquette, but, logic would say, food first, dessert after.

Mine's going to be backwards just to confuse you all!  I'll do dessert first then yummy food stuff. ^__^ jk.  Have a talk with the son and girlfriend and see how they want to do it. If no compromise can be reached then I'd just let them figure it out on the big day. Have everything else done and just have them play it by ear...who knows it could be very interesting.

If it is a "sit down" dinner then it is customary to cut the cake after the meal. If it is a buffett, you can do it when ever you like. If there is dancing and a buffett, it is best to do it between then. It is best to cut the cake BEFORE dancing, that way if someone wants to see the cake cutting, but not stay for all of the festivities, they will be able to slip away once the dancing begins. The "grooms" cake can be cut at any time, there is normally not a real big to do about the cutting of that cake. (most weddings I've been to the husband let's the best man cut the grooms cake.)

Hope that helps (boing)
