Initiative: Positive Focus
Written by Misty-Eve
Sunday, 29 March 2009

This is the last day of “Initiative,” the character trait we are influenced to improve during the first 10-days of Aries, and I find myself thinking about what I’ve done to further my own ability to take initiative.   My initiative now is focused upon my garden and looking for a job.

What stands in the way of what I want?  Is it fear?
Fear is an interesting thing that keeps me from tackling that which I know I need to face in order to get where I want to go.

Deciding that I must face those fears that are stopping me from achieving what I want is the first step in the process of taking the initiative in overcoming them.

Fears are scary things.  How can I deal with a fear, and still move forward with my goals?

"When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change."
~ Dr. Wayne Dyer

If I tell myself scary things, then I will make this fear even larger than it really is.  However, I can also soften this fear with my words and my imagination, as well.  The choice is mine to make.

For example, say this scary thing we're talking about is an opportunity to make a public speech.  Public speaking, for many (including myself), can be a scary thing, therefore, I must get past my fear before I can take the initiative to figure out what I want to say.  The trick is to soften this fear within me, first, so I can get past it.

To do this I talk softly to myself about this opportunity saying things like:
“Oh, it’s not so bad.  It’ll be so good to be able to rise above my hesitation and have this task behind me. I like it best when I have everyone’s interested attention. I want to say something inspiring.  There are so many things I could say that would be applicable for them all.  When I see happy faces looking at me, I feel good.  I love feeling good.  Life is so good.  I’m glad I can share what I’ve learned.  I’m going to have a wonderful time at this gathering.  I’m so glad to have this opportunity.”

How determined am I to achieve my goals?  Being a Taurus, I always return to the idea that “slow and steady wins the race”.  Persistence and determination will always overcome any obstacle… I just have to make baby-steps toward my goals by taking the initiative to begin.

So... how's my garden coming along?  Today, I took a long look at the progress I've made.  Last year I got a dump truck full of top soil put in the garden, then had it  plowed up and turned over.  This action aleviated my fear of failure due to poor soil.  This year I've already had it tilled, and now have most of it planted.    I've taken yet another baby step to get my garden started even better!!  I've taken the Initiative with my Action, and my fear is gone.  THIS time, I'm going to have a hum-dinger of a garden!!

How do you soften your fears?  There are many tricks to use to get past them.  Which one’s are effective for you?  Like the golfer who mentally practices his swing, do you use meditation to play out the scenario that you want to have happen?  Are you taking the initiative to softly work through whatever is keeping you from achieving your goals?  What’s stopping YOU?

It’s worth thinking about…

BE SPECIFIC WITH YOUR GOALS

“Very often people hurry off with an idea that they are going to be successful, having no specific picture of what success, for them, really means. History teaches us that successful people were specific about what they wanted to achieve.

Being specific with what you want to do will give your mind a directive that will make it work more effectively. Being specific with your thoughts and actions increases the possibility for you to be more pro-active. This gives you more power to choose your response to circumstance. This power to choose leads you to act on principle rather than according to your mood. In other words, you are not your habits, your beliefs or your attitudes. You learn these things, therefore you can unlearn them when you take control of your mind and power by focusing on specific thoughts and actions which form specific habits.”
~ From the Book: “Breaking Through Limitations”, by John Kanary

INITIATIVE:  QUOTES Of The DAY
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“I am a Vibrational Being and I transmit a signal with my thoughts about whatever I give my attention to that acts as a powerful magnet attracting similar vibrations. So as I am more selective about that which I focus upon, then I have a measure of control of what my vibrational offering is, because, as I give my attention to something, I include it in my vibration. And as I begin to more selectively choose that which I remember, or that which I focus upon in my now, or that which I contemplate into my future--as I more specifically focus, then I more specifically, deliberately vibrate, and as I more deliberately vibrate, then I have deliberate creative control of my own experience--because the Law of Attraction is matching my vibration to me.”
~ Abraham-Hicks
“We have much more power than we think -- taking initiative is how to harness that power and reap its rewards.”
~  From “Taking the Initiative at Work”
"I have climbed my mountain, but I must still live my life."
~ Tenzing Norgay
"The Lord gave us two ends--one to sit on and the other to think with.  Success depends on which one we use the most."
~ Ann Landers
JUST A TYPICAL TEENAGE BOY
FOCING HIS FEAR
The call was controversial-just as all really close calls in baseball are. Full speed the runner slid home and thinking he had just scored a game-altering run, he stood up only to face the words, "You're out!"
Now you know how it is when you've given your all to an effort and you stand up, only to hear the ump say, "You're out!" Just running for home when the play could be that close takes confidence and determination, not to mention a certain amount of competitiveness that doesn't just evaporate when you stand up. And it didn't with this teenager either.
Furious, he threw off his helmet and ran over to explain to the ump in no uncertain terms why the call was wrong, why the ump needed glasses, and why he was clearly home and nobody could miss that call so badly. Before his temper really got out of hand, someone pulled him away, and he walked to the bench-livid.
If this first spectacle was all you saw of the matter, don't fret-it was all almost everyone saw. But now, as Paul Harvey would say, "The rest of the story."
Long after the coaches, players, and fans had gone home, this typical teenage boy realized the impact of his decisions at home plate. Like most of us do when we are faced with the embarrassment of our actions, he could very well have made the logical next choice and just let it slide, reasoning: "Everybody does it." "The ump's probably heard that stuff a million times."
However, in the silence of his heart, this young man knew that just because everyone else does it, that doesn't make it all right. And so, long after his buddies had gone home, he tracked that ump back up to the school-not to vandalize his car and not to further harangue him. No, this typical teenage boy tracked this man down so he could tell him face-to-face: "I'm sorry, Sir. I was wrong."
It takes true courage to stand up in the face of those everyday indiscretions we all make and say, "I was wrong. I'm sorry." What makes this apology even more unique is that it wasn't meant for the world to hear, it wasn't meant to make the apologizer look better in the eyes of anyone else. It was meant simply as a way to stay true to his own heart.
In reality the story may well have ended there, and no one would have been the wiser. However, on the way out of town, the ump saw the superintendent and flagged him down to express his appreciation and surprise at the boy's apology. But the ump wasn't the only one who was surprised. The superintendent later talked to the coach to say how impressed he was that the coach had sent the boy to apologize. Only problem: The coach hadn't sent him and knew nothing about the apology until that very moment.
A few days later the coach ran into the boy's father and remarked how impressed he was that his parents had sent the boy to apologize. You guessed it-they knew nothing about it either!
Our truest actions are those that come from the heart-not what someone makes us do because it's the right thing. I know, however, that although the parents didn't intervene on this occasion, they had intervened enough times in the past for this boy to have the ultimate courage and try to remedy a situation when it would have been easier to reason, "He'll get over it."
The truth is at one time or another we have all been this boy-acting out in rage, saying hurtful things, and feeling justified for doing so. The real test comes later when we are presented with the choice to make amends or to walk away thinking, "Ah, they'll get over it."
Maybe the "they'll" is a co-worker, a customer, a friend, a sibling, a child, or a spouse. Whomever it is, don't pass up the opportunity to get right with your own heart. Don't let them walk off the field and drive out of town, thinking, "Oh, well. No big deal. They'll get over it." The time for apology is now!
Courage is a matter of the heart. I wish that every person in the whole world had the courage of this one typical teenager. If they did, just imagine what "typical" might come to mean!
(And a last caveat: The whole world starts with YOU!)
ARE YOU GETTING BETTER EVERY DAY?
How can you NOT remain positive and optimistic knowing that in some way, every day, the quality of your life is getting better and better?  This is not a hard task, even for those who consider themselves "over the hill".  We are all endowed with the ability to make positive changes in our lives every day and literally become better people if we choose to.
Some people let time get the better of them.  As time passes, they lose their health and vitality, and give up on their dreams while slipping into an ongoing state of depression.  Others embrace the power of personal growth and personal achievement and begin to replace youth with wisdom, innocence with understanding, and lack of purpose with self-actualization. Although it may not always seem like it, time IS on our side.
Our lives can get better every day in some way.  It can be as simple as learning a new word every day, or as involved as following all of the suggestions above.  You are in control of the quality of life you live today and the quality of life you live in the future.  Just as you would plan for your financial future, plan for your physical and spiritual future as well.
If you are the type that gets motivation from self-talk and mantras, then when you wake up, why not say to yourself, "My life is better today than it was yesterday" or if you think about it, "Today is the best day of my life".   What a way to start the day!
ARIES: "I AM"
1st Influence: "INITIATIVE"
March 20 – March 29
Without initiative, nothing begins. Initiative is the ability to start, to begin - and then to push it through. In Magic, an initiation is necessary for success in achieving the goals we set. INITIATIVE demands ACTION. Let us say to ourselves, as Aries begins, "Let us start"!  We then need to keep the initiative going.  See every action through to its conclusion on anything you begin.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The Ruler of Aries: MARS, the planet of Action.

Mars, with his penchant for action and for doing, is what gives Aries people all their will power. The command of Mars is, "Do It Now!" He tells us that if you want to be happy, you need to get happy now. Those who are Aware know that all Real Life exists only in the present. This is to say that Life is right now, and DOING IT NOW is the happy way to live. You may have been happy before but that moment is gone. You can't be happy in the future, for the future is not here yet. The only time to be happy is the only time in which you can possibly be -- NOW. Make up your mind to simply "DO IT NOW" and be happy doing it. Then Mars will smile upon you, and you will have gotten His message.
