I will post where to get sandbags and other info as I find out what is happening...

When driving.....Be safe, turn around, don't drown!

This takes you to the graph for the Ouachita River at Monroe.

River Levels and their impact:

47.5 WATER IS FLOODING THE UNDERCLEARANCE OF THE DESIARD STREET BRIDGE. MAJOR LOWLAND FLOODING IS TAKING PLACE BETWEEN THE LEVEE SYSTEMS.

45.0 THE PRAIRON BAYOU RECREATIONAL AREA IS FLOODED AND CLOSED. LOWLAND FLOODING WILL BECOME EXTENSIVE AT THIS STAGE.

43.0 BAYOU D'ARBONNE (ROCKY BRANCH)...BAWCONVILLE AND MOON LAKE RECREATIONAL AREAS ARE FLOODED AND CLOSED.

The backwater flooding is what causes the major problem, the levees have always held  Smile
L.E. good info can be obtained from the Ouachita Parish Office of Homeland Security (the same as the the old emergency preparedness office). They may be getting a bit busy, but they do keep local media informed. Their phone number is in the book, or i can give it to you. I will let you know if I hear anything.

Thank you Sundown Smile  I get very paranoid about flooding. I guess I had too many past lives being drowned in one way or another (a whole lotta past life stories, in fact). It also fascinates me....I just wonder if the levees and pumps can handle things.....the infratructure here is so antiquated. And they said New Orleans was safe....and that's just down the road a bit Wink ....

Is there an emergency sustem set up in case something does fail? Everything in Monroe/West Monroe is situated on or close to water of some sort....we live basically in a watershed basin for the river, if I understand coreectly.

Thank you for helping me understand the crazy musing in my mind. I tend to get a bit frantic this time of year....

Hope all is well with you....and yours, tell everyone hi and give a hug for me....

Oh yes, there is a lot set up. Never fear, if I hear something you will be the first to know.

Lady Elaine,
Don't take chances.  Besides the obvious immediate dangers, the aftermath can be much worse, with all the ruined property, contamination, disease, etc.  Last June southern Indiana was absolutely devastated by the worst flood in recorded history.  There were, miraculously, only two fatalities, out of tens of thousands routed from their homes at literally an hour's notice.  It was definitely a reminder that we're just passengers here.

Blessings.

You are so right Greenmonk......

I have alot of faith in Sundown though....he will call me if something is heading our way....I just don't trust an infrastructure that is oer 60 years old and with rain on the way this weekend...well.....

Let's just say my psychic meters are going off... Embarassed
