Possessions: The Taurus Lesson
Written by Misty-Eve
Sunday, 17 May 2009
Is having “things” important to you?
I have had such a changing life-style that possessions have never been very important to me. When my children reached the age of attending high school our family finally settled down into the “American Dream”. For seven years my husband and I both had good jobs. We had a tri-level 4-bdrm house, double-car garage, fireplace, deck, patio, garden area, and fruit trees. Anyone who was searching for the ‘good life’ would have thought we had finally made it there. My parents were so proud.
However, in achieving this thing that my parents thought was the ultimate goal, I was about as unhappy as I had ever been in my life. Everything started to go wrong, and I continually heard the whisperings telling me to listen to my heart which was saying… something’s not right with this picture. Over the following years, I learned that this was certainly not what I considered to be the pursuit of my happiness.
I finally ASKED for understanding. I asked to be shown my path because I was obviously lost in the pursuit of something someone else thought was happiness.
Soon thereafter I had a vision that I was to pack up the household, put it in storage, and move into an RV. But “where would we be going?” I asked. I was told that when the time came we would know.
Sure enough, right on schedule we were contacted by former students who came to visit us and begged us to come to California to teach their groups more of Father Eli’s lessons from the Druidic Craft of the Wise.
My parents were devastated. They wanted to know how could we possibly give up such a good life style? They’re both gone now, but I don’t think they ever understood my reasoning.
The American Indians had a very wise tradition of moving their location every seven years. They packed up only what they could carry and moved to new hunting grounds. This kept their possessions down to the bare essentials. But more important was the fact that they started life over every seven years in a new location.
In observing the changes in my life I’ve discovered that about every seven years things have changed drastically. New goals take precedence, or a new life-style emerges, and I’m off and running again, excited with the new adventure as it unfolds before me.
It’s now been seven years since I divorced my first husband, and over this last year my thinking has changed once again, new goals have moved to the forefront, and new opportunities are opening because of the new direction of my thoughts. Things are changing once again. Life has taken on a new brilliance with new discoveries awaiting my awareness. Life is good!
Today I expect my children to arrive from their journey across the desert. I will be a mom once more. The household will be filled with the laughter of children, and my heart is singing!
During this month of the Taurus discovery that “I HAVE”, how important are your possessions? If you received a calling to do something completely different, how flexible would YOU be in your acceptance of these changes?
Do your possessions stop you from following your dreams? How important are these possessions?
We’re just now entering the hurricane season. If you received the call to evacuate your household, what are the things you would take with you? Tools, clothes, cook-ware… what else would you consider important enough to bring along?
How important are the things you HAVE?
Are they MORE important than the mission You came here to do?
It's worth thinking about...

HOW DO YOU DEFINE SUCCESS?
"He who has achieved success has worked well, laughed often and loved much."
~ Elbert Hubbard
"Too often, people focus only on results. But getting results without learning something or without having fun are incomplete. So is having fun without getting the results, or having fun without learning something new to help and empower you in the future. Accomplishment is all three: the result, personal growth and having fun."
~ Peter L. Hirsch
"There are many aspects to success; material wealth is only one component. ...But success also includes good health, energy and enthusiasm for life, fulfilling relationships, creative freedom, emotional and psychological stability, a sense of well-being, and peace of mind."
~ Deepak Chopra

STABILITY: QUOTES OF THE DAY
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Times change but principles don't. Times change but lands do not. Times change but our culture and our language remain the same. And that's what you have to keep intact. It's not what you wear - it's what's in your heart."
~ Oren Lyons, Onondaga
“Going back to the old ways doesn't mean giving up electricity, homes and cars. It means living by the same principles, laws and values that our ancestors lived by. This will allow us to live successfully in today's world. The spirituality our ancestors lived is the same spirituality we need in these modern times. There are too many influences from TV, radio, newspapers, magazines and negative role models that are guiding our lives in a bad way. Our stability is in the laws, principles and values that our ancestors were given and that our Elders teach us.”
~ Don Coyhis, Mohawk
"In your pursuit of happiness, now and then it is wise to just pause and be happy. The pursuit of anything often causes us to focus on the pursuit itself rather than enjoying that which we are pursuing. Like success, happiness is a journey, not a destination."
~ Bo Bennett, http://www.yeartosuccess.com
“For me, the essence of a medicine man's life is to be humble, to have great patience, to be close to the Earth, to live as simply as possible, and to never stop learning.”
~ Archie Fire Lame Deer, Lakota Sioux
DARE TO BE DIFFERENT
In the movie Parenthood, Gil (played by Steve Martin), with an obvious feeling of stress and frustration, comments on how chaotic his life is. His grandmother of advancing years begins to tell a story of how when she was younger, she loved the roller coaster because it goes up and down and was both frightening and exciting at the same time, whereas most other girls liked the merry-go-round that just goes round and round. Her point was clear: living the safe life without risk leads to a dull life without reward. It is the risk-takers that live their dreams and achieve success.
In Abraham Maslow's hierarchy of needs we have seen that safety and security are right below physiological needs on. According to this need theory, the need for safety and security is greater than just about all of our other needs, including the desire for greatness or self-actualization. This means we generally avoid risk to protect our level of security. This avoidance of risk is a major limiting factor in one's achievement of success.
Risk itself has many levels. The key is not avoiding risk, but limiting risk through careful thought and preparation. This is also known as taking calculated risks. Risk also comes in many forms. The world is full of brave and honorable public servants such as policemen and women, fire fighters, and those in the military who will risk their lives for others in a heartbeat. If you consider yourself a risk-taker, ask yourself, are these risks you take bringing you any closer to your idea of success?
Here are some suggestions for taking more calculated, limited risks:
• Have confidence. Taking risks has to do with having confidence - knowing that no matter what the outcome, you will be fine.
• Desire greatness. You may live a fine life full of security, but is that all you really want?
• Do your homework. Get all the facts to minimize the risk. The more you know, the less risky a situation becomes. Information allows you to walk away from situations that are too risky and gives you the confidence to take more calculated risks.
• Ask yourself, what's the worst that can happen? Put things in perspective. Asking someone out on a date can lead to temporary embarrassment at worst, but can result in a lifetime of love and happiness. If that is not a risk worth taking, I do not know what is.
• Start small. Risk does not have to be an all or nothing situation. For example, one does not have to quit one's current job to start a side business. This can be done on a small scale, say one hour a day.
• Have a backup plan. What if the chance you take does not turn out in your favor? Minimize the risk by having a backup plan.
Do you want to spend your life going around in circles, or do you want the excitement and thrill of the roller coaster? Each of us is capable of so much more than we actually do. It is those who take the risks in life that realize their full potential.
THE RETURN OF THE CHILDREN
Whispers in the distance
Lives as yet to be
Announcing their arrival
To those like you and me
Children of a yester land
Long lost beneath the waves
Reminders of a golden age
Before man lived in caves
And so it is they come again
To free the world of pain and sin
A cycle on its fateful track
Has seen it time to bring them back
So watch them sleeping in their cribs
And watch them eating wearing bibs
You'll see a twinkle in their eyes
That came from far above the skies
TAURUS: “I HAVE”
3rd Decan Influence: STABILITY
May 11 – May 20
A staunch lot, these cattle! Firm, solid, stable. Your bull can be led from the barn with love and tender words but it would be easier to move the barn than the bull otherwise.
hen we use the word "stability" we often know it to mean inflexible and unmovable. The language gives us "intractable" for this. Stability does not really mean immovable. The mighty oak is immovable but not necessarily stable for in too great a wind it may, for all its mightiness, blow down. The reed standing in the marsh is, in a way, more stable than the oak, for when the gale blows it bends and when the evening calm falls again, it stands up once more, where it stood before.
Stability is the capacity to return to original position after being displaced. The wise person gives way under pressure, and then when it has passed, returns to his original position. Our Taurus people may seem stubborn sometimes, and being a little inflexible can be a problem. The ideal of stability does not imply inflexibility but an ability to go with the tide and return with ease.
Look around you for the beautiful ones, those who attract your eye. Apply the love which characterizes Venus and find the beauty within them. Let us learn of love from these firm and solid Taurus people and let us help them learn stability as apart from stubbornness. Relax in Taurus for now we begin to groom the Mother Earth as our Garden of Wisdom.
“Men are born soft and supple; dead, they are stiff and hard. Plants are born tender and pliant; dead, they are brittle and dry. Thus whoever is stiff and inflexible is a disciple of death. Whoever is soft and yielding is a disciple of life. The hard and stiff will be broken. The soft and supple will prevail.”
~ Lao-tzu, 6th century BC Chinese philosopher, founder of Taoism, excerpt from “Tao Te Ching”
